Take 5 Oil flunked my engine by starting the car with no oil in it on September 4th, 2025. They initially would not approve a rental and would only cover reimbursement of Ubers. The car was towed to a mechanic (9/4/2025) where they evaluated the severity of damages. Take 5 approved me for a rental and that they would reimburse me. The car was retrieved on 9/11, and the rental car returned 9/12. The engine, 9/14, would not start. Take 5 is now taking zero accountability for it. We have in writing that "expenses will be given back to customer" and because this issue only happened due to their gross negligence, they should be held liable for a second rental, towing the car that will not start, and all repairs associated with the car. This is impacting my job, I am unable to go to work because of Take 5s mistake.

On Saturday morning, July 27, 2025, I visited the Take 5 Oil Change location in ******, ** for a routine oil change. I asked for the same oil used in previous visits (typically around $70), but the technician pushed a more expensive option. When I declined, his tone became noticeably cold and pushy. He then told me my car needed a coolant replacement but did not explain or mention it the cost. Most concerning, he leaned deeply into my driver-side window during the exchange. As a young woman alone in my vehicle, this physical closeness and pressure made me feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe.Feeling anxious and wanting the interaction to end, I agreed to the service. Only afterward did I realize I had been charged over $230, far beyond what I anticipated. I never would have agreed to that service under different circumstances. The combination of upselling, lack of clear pricing, and disregard for personal space made the situation feel manipulative and unsettling. Im fine paying for my oil change I would like a full refund for the coolant service I was pressured into under duress and scammed into paying for services I didnt want due to the proximity of the tech.

    Hello,

I apologize for the inconvenience you experienced after the service at Take 5 and the delayed response to your BBB complaint. The shop that you visited at ************************************ is a Franchise location meaning it is privately owned and operated. This shop will handle all service failures themselves. I have asked the BBB team to send this over to that team so they can assist with coming to a resolution.

Take 5 Oil Change @ *********************************** ABSOLUTELY APPALLED AT TECHNICIAN INCOMPETENCE AT MY EXPENSE Please do not let them up-sale you!!!!! DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY FOR MORE THAN AN OIL CHANGE!!! They are not equipped for repairs if something goes wrong and will not cover the damages!I took my truck to get an oil change here a few weeks ago and proceeded to be upsold by a very adamant technician to do a coolant flush. I obliged, trusting the tech knew what he was doing. After an hour, I realized the flush was taking longer than normal but there was no communication on what was taking so long and so I left a little uneasy on if the job was done right but had no time to confirm since I was on my way in to work. About a week later, on a Sunday, I walk to my truck before work and noticed ALL of the coolant has leaked out of my truck onto the ground forming a large puddle. (Keep in mind I've never had coolant leaks or overheating issues with my truck.) I immediately rush it back to the Take 5 location on ********* as my truck is overheating and smoking at this point. They try to assess were the leak is coming from to no avail. They said I have to take it their partner repair shop to determine who's at fault. After 2 days, I'm finally able to get it to the shop and they determine the leak is coming from the timing cover gasket that burst. They tell me b/c there was a small preexisting leak (not sure how they were able to determine this and even if there was one, why didn't the tech inform me or inspect the vehicle before doing the flush??) I have to pay almost $700 out of pocket!!!I've called this location multiple times and spoke to a manager who says he is investigating the matter but have received no call back or communication regarding the outcome. This is a nightmare!

We paid for a third party diagnostic at another repair center and they determined Mr. ***** vehicle had a pre-existing leak. This leak was the cause of his issues, not the service performed by Take 5. This was explained to Mr. ***** by the third party repair center which is why Take 5 has declined validity of the claim. Mr. ***** called and spoke with me directly and I reiterated this information. Mr. ***** was simply not satisfied with the findings of the third party repair facility.

    Complaint: 23292052

I am rejecting this response because:

The claims are false and totally baseless.

    Your response to my claim:
    1) "We paid for a third party diagnostic at another repair center and they determined Mr. ***** vehicle had a pre-existing leak."

This is completely false on multiple counts:
No diagnostic was paid for by Take 5.
I personally coordinated and paid out of pocket for the assessment and subsequent repairs at your partner repair facility Driver's Automotive (which I was forced to go to according to your staff who stated the services performed by your team would not be warrantied if took it to a place of my choosing.)

    2) The claim of a pre-existing leak is entirely unsubstantiated.
My vehicle had no prior overheating or coolant leak issues before your technician performed a coolant flush a service I was aggressively upsold despite only coming in for an oil change. After consulting with different shops and mechanics in the area, there is absolutely no way to determine if a leak already existed after the damage had already occurred. It should have been called out by the tech who performed the flush. Is your team not trained to detect a leak before performing these services? Why would you not implement this as standard procedure to avoid future incidents such as this?
If, as you now claim, there was a pre-existing issue, why was this not noted, disclosed, or documented by your technician before performing a pressurized coolant flush? Any competent technician would inspect for leaks before carrying out a flush. Failure to do so is negligence and directly led to the damage.
This has literally become a battle between you and YOUR partner repair facility (Driver's Automotive) vs. my own experience of driving MY vehicle since 2011 with no issues of coolant leaks, ever! There is no proof other than heresy form a biased 3rd parter repair facility!

    3) Over the phone, the claim made by your manager that since my "truck is a 2003", is totally irrelevant especially since its been well kept and signs of a leak would have been noticed by having to constantly top off my coolant levels or potential overheating. This is a desperate attempt to place the blame instead of just taking accountability.

    4) I called multiple times for updates and was told management was still looking into the matter. I have received no formal follow-up and no effort to make this situation rightonly a blanket denial with misinformation. It is unacceptable that your response attempts to shift blame using false statements and retroactive claims, rather than addressing the clear technician error and lack of proper inspection. I trusted your team with a basic service and was left with nearly $700 in out-of-pocket damage, missed work, and ongoing stress over an issue that should never have occurred.

    I am requesting:
Reimbursement of the $678.09 in repair costs I incurred as a direct result of your technicians failure to inspect and properly perform the coolant flush. The facts are that I've never had coolant issues since I got my truck in 2011. The facts are that all of the coolant comes flooding out of my truck just after a flush is performed by Take 5 . Please run the tapes on on ****, your tech, who took almost an hour to complete this. Clearly he was having trouble and never asked one question about previous work done, and not one time mentioned there was a leak. Any competent shop would refuse to work on it if there had been one.
Again, after being consulted by dodge dealership technicians, there is absolutely no way to tell there is a preexisting leak after the damage was done by the coolant flush at Take 5; resulting in the timing cover gasket needing to be replaced.

This is an easy opportunity to make an attempt to make things right and to implement more strict operating procedures to avoid situation like this with future customers.

    Sincerely,

    ****** J

Ms. ******* vehicle had a broken plastic dipstick handle so we were unable to check to oil level. It is a common issue with the dodge oil dipstick being it is made out of plastic. The vehicle has an oil level sensor that lets you know if the engine is too low on oil. We explained to Ms. ****** that as long as the light was not on she had sufficient oil in the engine and it was nothing to worry about. The part was ordered and we replaced it for her free of charge within a week of her initial visit for the oil top off. The was no damage caused to the vehicle and we replaced the broken component free of charge.

I had an oil change and new windshield wiper blades completed at store number ****** at ************************************************************ on 1/7/23 at 12:51 pm. I am on a road trip traveling. About an hour ago, at 11:45 pm while driving on interstate 75 going north in pouring rain at 70 miles an hour with a large 18 ******* on side of me, my windshield blade flew off of my car while the other flipped and broke. My visibility became immediately impossible to see and I was terrified. I lost control of the car and slowed while cars flew around me to not run into me. This is negligible and put my life in danger, as well as others on the road. I am now stuck in the middle of the night unable to drive my car due to it raining and having no windshield wiper blades. Something should be done about the incompetence of the employees who replaced my windshield blades, there is no telling how many people could die from this mistake.

I am writing to file a complaint against Take 5 Oil Change #1072 in ******, **. On September 21, 2023, I took my 2018 ******* Elantra to this location for an oil change. After leaving the shop, I noticed that oil was pouring out of the car. I immediately pulled over and called my mechanic, who came to tow the car to his shop. My mechanic informed me that the oil drain plug had not been replaced after the oil change was performed. This is a serious safety hazard, and I am fortunate that I did not experience any engine damage as a result. I contacted the manager of the Take 5 Oil Change location on multiple occasions, but he has not returned my calls.I am requesting the assistance of the Better Business Bureau in resolving this issue. I would like Take 5 Oil Change to reimburse me for the cost of the tow to my mechanic, as well as the cost of any repairs that are necessary as a result of their negligence.I have attached copies of the following documentation:Receipt for the tow to my mechanic Estimate for the cost of repairs from my mechanic Oil change receipt from Take 5 Oil Change I believe that Take 5 Oil Change has violated the following consumer protection laws:******* Consumer Protection Act (OCGA 10-1-390 et seq.): This law prohibits businesses from engaging in unfair or deceptive trade practices. Failing to properly replace an oil drain plug is a clear example of an unfair and deceptive trade practice.************************* Warranty Act: This federal law requires businesses to honor their warranties, even if they were not written warranties. Take 5 Oil Change impliedly warrants that they will properly perform an oil change, and they have breached that warranty in this case.I believe that Take 5 Oil Change should be held accountable for their negligence. I urge the Better Business Bureau to investigate this complaint and to take appropriate action.

On July 20, 2023 I went to a Take 5 location on ******************************************************* for an oil change, and after waiting in drive thru for 45 mins with no issues with my car, I received service that damaged my vehicle. I own an 2016 Audi A6, the initial sign of damage was displayed when I was told to start my car and a dark cloud of smoke came from my exhaust. The attendant then told me to turn my car off and another mechanic came over to let me know that my oil change will be redone because of "TOO MUCH OIL" put in. After they told me that they re-drained the oil and changed it again, I was asked to start my vehicle and it did not start. The engine did not turn over, after 45 more mins of trouble shooting the staff at Take 5 let me know my alternator or battery may have issues and they pushed my car out of the stall into a nearby parking space in their lot. I then called my roadside assistance and had my car towed to the nearest mechanic ******* Automotive, that also had history with my vehicle. After running diagnostic, they deducted that my car's engine was "Hydrolocked" due to the over exposure to oil in the cylinders and my transmission fluid was drained entirely and the tank to the transmission was damaged. I have spoken to management at Take 5 and was reassured that they would pay for damages and have my car repaired. Its been 3 weeks and no effort toward fixing my car has been made. I've sent them the invoice attached and notified them that there would be other cost due to issues caused by their staff. I currently depend on my vehicle for my main source of income, and have exhausted all options and patience for Take 5 to rectify this problem. I am seeking help to recover cost of damages and get me back on the road so that I may continue to earn a living.
