1 starI did my taxes through this company and still fail to receive my income tax return… they said I was suspicious of fraudulent activity… then they said they were going to send my check back to the irs (which has yet to happen) since July 6th I’ve just gave up on seeing that tax return anytime soon.TaxSlayer.com

The email address is not linked to an account we can review. However, if the customer elected to have their program fees deducted from the refund and the third-party bank indicated there was suspicious activity on the account, they are required to send the funds back to the IRS. Once the IRS receives the funds, they will issue a check and send it to the address on the account. This process usually takes 12 weeks but can take up to 180 days. We recommend you check the IRS Where's My Refund daily until it shows they have received the funds. At that time, contact the IRS to make sure the funds are sent to your current address. We also recommend you review your return to ensure there were no mistakes made. If there was a mistake on the return, you can amend the return.Review fromCammi R

1 starNegative 10 stars for this scamming company. Try to file my taxes first return was rejected meaning I don't owe them any money because it didn't go through
Try to send it again it was accepted the second time when I signed up for the taking the fees out of the return. On the website it says I paid successfully but then they try to charge a bank account that I had closed causing it to be overdraft and costing me hundreds of dollars. I tried several times to reache out to them trying to figure out what the deal was because as my screenshot proof can show I had already paid them successfully tried to resolve the issue through better business bureau and they talk in circles the first one response, second response sounded like maybe an actual person responding although they contradicted themselves saying if it went through we deduct it from the return so there fee should have been paid if it went through if it didn't go through then I owe no fees they said that they emailed one link because they offered zero options to pay except for this link that they supposedly sent months ago in an email and that because the IRS doesn't accept changing the bank information they don't except any other bank accounts I'm not trying to change my banking information with the IRS I'm trying to give you a new debit card not the one that's closed and they still can't give me options to make a payment they would rather cost me hundreds of dollars for a return that I haven't received. meaning my return wasn't accepted so I don't owe the fees but I have the freaking proof I paid it even though I don't owe you and now you're charging me double, overdrafting my account and offer no compromise, consideration, or customer service whatsoever. There's a million other sites out there do not use this one.TaxSlayer.com

I was able to review your prior BBB complaint and see the information provided was correct. When you filed your return initially, the return was rejected due to dependent information. The second attempt was also rejected for dependent information. The third attempt was successful and both the IRS and the state returns were accepted.
All three attempts showed you elected to pay the fees out of the refund rather than by credit card. When this option is elected, the agreement states that, in the event the IRS does not timely process the refund, we are able to deduct the fees from the bank listed to receive the direct deposit.
Self-preparation websites, such as ours, have no way to update the banking information and re-send the return once it has been accepted. We also have no way to change the payment method selected during the e-file process. The attempts to collect our fees are made automatically by a third party based on the information you entered when you e-filed. We are not responsible for any overdraft fees incurred.
Beginning on July 4th, 2023, we started sending emails indicating we had not received payment. That email contained a link for you to pay the amount due BEFORE the account was auto debited. The link provided would have allowed you to pay the fees by debit/credit card or update the banking information.
We sent three follow-up emails asking for the payment and informing you of the attempt to collect the debt owed. After the first payment attempt was made, another email was sent indicating we would attempt the collection again and a date was provided for the attempt. We show the taxpayer contacted us by email on the day the second payment attempt was made asking to change the bank information. The email response asks the customer to click the link in the original billing email to update the payment method (bank account or credit/debit card) or to pay the fees owed.
Our customer support division has received no other contact from the customer other than the one email. At this time, the fees are still outstanding.Review fromKelly M

1 starI have been trying to file my Minnesota Renters rebate since February of 2023 for the 2022 tax season. All it is is an address correction. Their customer service is very poor. As of today 08/10/2023 I am now having trouble accessing the form to correct it (again). They have been no help in the process. It tells me to click out of the State Return when I do and make an attempt to click on and fix the error it won't work and thus begins the around in circles. I have cleared my computer of cookie etc and the website is horrible almost as bad as their "customer service" and "tech help". I will never use them again and will let others know not to waste your time. If i could i would give a 1/2 star rating or none at all.TaxSlayer.com

Review of the account shows three contacts to our customer support team to correct the state return. Each note indicates the support agent advised the customer to remove the ‘APT” in the apartment field of the address. The state will not accept the return with ‘APT’ in the apartment number field of the address as the computer reads it as duplicate information.
Please log into the account and go to Basic Information and remove the APT portion of the apartment number listed in the ‘Apartment’ field.
We are having an agent reach out to you to assist you in making the change to the account as well. Once the changes have been made, please e-file the M1PR again.Review fromFrank V

1 starThey may not be the only one but these companies advertise free tax filing but you don’t know the real cost until you complete your taxes. If I know what forms I need, there must be a way to estimate my price before I fill out all their forms. It seems terribly unfair. In this case, just one New York State filing would cost $80. I have to stop and redo the process with somebody else.TaxSlayer.com

Our website indicates simple tax returns are free. These are generally tax returns that would use the older 1040EZ form. This return contained tax credits, earned income tax, other withholdings, retirement distributions and health care credits which are not included in a simple return.
We hope the customer does check back with us next year and reviews our Compare Products page to see the difference in our products.Review fromLurline F

1 starI had been using Taxslayer for 3 year now, this year I was charged $79.90 the bank account number was wrong so my bank send it back. I call Taxslayer customer service who told me there is NOTHING the company can do. For 1 week I was calling IRS for help and finally an amazing guy answered and told me Taxslayer use a bank for taxes, He was able to provide me with bank contact information. I call them to see if they received my fund. Yes, they did and try resending it to my bank twice. After not being successful that bank charge me $30 fee to mail a check out. The total of $109.90 to file my taxes from a company that promotes FREE FILING. It hurt that your customers service don’t know how to help your customers is sad. So paid $109.90 to help myself hope you’ll enjoy the free money.TaxSlayer.com

Review of this account shows the customer used the Premium package as they did in the previous year. That package has a $39.95 fee. When asked how the customer wished to pay the program fees, the option to have the fees deducted from the refund was elected. The third party bank charges a $39.95 fee for their services. When the third party bank cannot deposit the funds into the account, they charge a fee to send a check to the customer.
Within the customer's account is the Refund Agreement outlining the fees. The customer has to indicate they have read the agreement and agree to the terms before being able to use this option and E-file the return. If they wish to not use this option, they can pay the fees upfront using a debit or credit card.
We are not able to refund fees collected by the third-party bank for services they provided to the customer. However, we are happy to provide the customer with a free 2023 return for next year. When the customer creates their return next year, simply contact us before the return is filed and we will apply the discount to the account.Review fromChuck & Pat B

I have reviewed the call and see where support was contacted on February 14th by phone. However, the customer was not able to log into the account to access the program. After 20 minutes on the phone, the agent recommended the customer log into the account and call us back. No further contact has been made.
I am happy to send the customer instructions on how to amend the return to the email address on the account.Review fromTod b

1 starDid not allow any editing or adding to the state form to get all available deductions. They simply take the fed info and stick in state form allowing no additional state info. You are charged $39.95 for state filing before you can even view the form prior to filing at which time seeing this I did not file through them I went directly to the state website and gained $300 deduction that TaxSlayer did not allow me to get nor ensure that this was the best refund I could get utilizing their system. When contacted they did not accept any responsibility and even though I explained it to them and they clearly see I did not file state through them they were not willing to refund that $39.95 or assist in anyway. They had a too bad for you attitude. This is definitely not the best option nor will it give you the best available refund. Not too mention they attempt to upsell you product after product during the process. Also I did not choose this option, but choosing to have the fees taken directly from your refund will cost you another $39.95. As for the federal filing “free” service it cost me $19.95 due to them having to place 1 number on a separate schedule.TaxSlayer.com

The program does pull the federal information into the state return to create a “base” for the state return.
Once a state is selected, the taxpayer is asked a few questions regarding the county, school district, etc. depending on the state. The taxpayer will then get a message that the return has been created. With this message is also a list of items that the taxpayer may wish to review. The taxpayer is asked if they wish to review the state information. If no is selected, the program continues to the next section. If yes is selected, the taxpayer is presented with the state return and the entries available.
Review of this account shows that the user did not contact us to ask where to make the entry for the renter’s credit until after the federal return was filed and the state return was viewed/printed. Our return policy states that if the forms are viewed/printed, a refund is not authorized.
Within the credits section of the state return is a variety of credits including the renter credit. This cannot be completed automatically by the program as it requires information only the taxpayer would have knowledge of. Therefore, the user will need to manually enter the information into the state return.
The Free Edition is for a basic free return which has only income from W-2s, no dependents, no deductions, and no credits. Once a credit form is included, the package will be upgraded to the Classic Edition. If you elect to have the fees deducted from your refund, the third-party bank that processes that payment charges a fee for their services. This is disclosed prior to payment.
I have entered a refund request for the state filing fees. Please allow 10-14 days for the refund to be processed.Review fromSallee F

1 starI tried filing with them and they charged me $63.50 for filing taxes that WERE REJECTED BY THE IRS and refused to give me a refund. They kept telling me I could get free transcripts from the IRS to fix the problem but isn’t that the reason for paying TaxSlayer? So, I was charged for services not rendered. Review of your account indicates the return was rejected for the prior year PIN/AGI. This is essentially how you would 'sign' your return.
To correct this, please select “E-file” from the left menu, Then Yes, I am ready to file my return(s), Click on "Continue" on Products and Services, then finally click on "EDIT" from the Sign and File box, then complete the E-file process to the IRS PIN Page. Here you can verify the information that you entered. We recommend you use the prior year AGI rather than the PIN.
Since your 2021 return was not e-filed using our service, we are unable to pull that number forward for you. If you did file a 2021 return, you will need to look at the amount on line 11 of the accepted return. If you did not file a 2021 return, enter $0 as the AGI amount.
If the return continues to be rejected, you may need to print, sign and mail the return.Review fromangelo m

1 starUsed free tax slayer service for 2021 returns. Couldn't automatically pull 1099-INT forms from well known banks. Had to manually fill in forms. Paid State tax but got a notice that I had to pay several hundred dollars more! Maybe they improved. Not too sure where all these highly rated reviews come from. BBB seems to have the only realistic reviews. Going to look for another filing service this year.TaxSlayer.com

5 starsI have used Tayslayer personally for about 5 years now and I appreciate the ease with which they make such a complicated task. I am currently working part-time for an accountant that uses very suspicious software and I'm looking into helping her convert over to Taxslayer Pro. On a personal note, I've been reading over several of the complaints and reviews and I just have to laugh because the Taxslayer representative clearly points out where the mistake was made. Rarely did I see where the "customer" apologized when they realized that their issue was not really Taxslayers fault. My recommendation for anyone looking for tax preparation software is to do a thorough investigation into the company that you are trusting in your financial future. I personally true this software and will continue to use it.
