1 starMy federal taxes are being held up with the IRS and you can't talk to anyone, I've received 2 different letters telling my I'll have to wait 60 days which is now 120 days and TaxSlayer just sent me an email stating that they're going to hit my bank account for the fee owed they don't care what the IRS is doing, they just want their money, they don't even want to help to find out what the issue is. I will never use this company ever againTaxSlayer.com

Customer contacted us on ****2024 regarding the outstanding program fees. We indicated that the user choose to have the fees deducted from the refund. The user did acknowledge this to be true. That agreement states that the fees are due when the IRS funds the return or within 21 days if the IRS does not process the refund, whichever comes first. The agent indicated this in the call before the customer hung up.
If the customer received letters from the IRS indicating an issue with the return, copies of the notice should be sent to us at *********************. If the IRS only states there is a delay in processing, the user will need to reach out to the IRS. We are not able to determine why the IRS has not processed the refund without the notice.

1 starI'm a small business owner, and chose to go with Taxslayer for my 2023 taxes. While their website and interface were user friendly and easy to use, I felt rushed through and I had additional information to enter and was not provided opportunity to do so.
I received a letter from the IRS a few days ago indicating that there were glaring errors in my return, to include several pages missing. Some to include the first two pages of my return, proof of income, and then proof of quarterly taxes filed. Whether this was a glitch or not, something like this should not be overlooked. My wife and I double checked everything before we even hit submit! Everything was there. The review page even said as much.
When I've done everything within my power and capability to file my taxes, in accordance to the material provided by the website, and the IRS kicks it back for information missing; then that leaves a lot to be desired to the efficacy of Taxslayer. They have lost my business from this day forward.TaxSlayer.com

The program is a self-preparation program. The user moves through the program at their own pace. If using the Guide Me feature, the user is also able to stop and re-start at their leisure. Customers are never rushed through the process.
If the customer has received a notice from the IRS, they can send it to us for review. Although we cannot assist with gathering your documents and sending them to the IRS, we may be able to assist in reviewing the return for items the IRS may be asking aboutReview fromKimberly K

1 starI have always used TaxSlayer but it is now very misleading and greedy with charging. The only reason i used taxslayer is because of their " file your taxes for free" that they advertise. I meet all the criteria to file for free, but was charged $82.90 that they hide in the 18 pages of the terms and agreements that i accepted. Can you say "bait and switch"? Never again! Their greed has now cost them a customer. I do not like companies that do not do the right thing!
Bye TaxSlayer you have reached a new height of greed and deception!!TaxSlayer.com

Review of the account shows the customer was upgraded from free to classic when the Itemized Deductions (Schedule A) was added to the account. The free filing is for users who have a simple W-2 return, no dependents and the filing status is single or married filing jointly. The customer did not reach out to support with their concerns.
This account has filed using the Classic edition for the last 3 years. The program fees are clearly listed on the Summary/Print screen and within the e-file process. The customer is not obligated to pay the fees until they wish to file or print the return.
While the cost of doing business rises each year, we have tried to keep our customer rates as low as possible while still being able to provide a quality product and remarkable customer service.Review fromCharles G

1 starThe only reason i used taxslayer is because of their " file your taxes for free" that they advertise. I meet all the criteria to file for free, but was charged over $100 that they hide in the 18 pages of the terms and agreements that i accepted.I created an account with ******** banking card that taxslayer offers, then they put the wrong account and routing numbers on my 1040 and filed it. The ******** card is a rip off with there monthly and a.t.m. fees! The IRS is reviewing my return, saying I have to verify my identity, and verify the return that taxslayer prepped and filed.I can't get anyone on the phone, and have to schedule an appointment at a local IRS office. The earliest they will see me is over two months after the date they accepted the return. I have absolutely no help from them. The mobile app is garbage, for I couldn't access my return or my 1040s from the app. It has one headache after another. I will never use this app again.TaxSlayer.com

Review of this account shows two usernames were created and e-filed for 2023.
The first username did start in the Free package but has the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) included. Due to the EITC, this account was upgraded to the Classic package. When an account is upgraded, the reason for the upgrade is shown in the Summary/Print or e-file section under ‘Why was I upgraded?’. This return was e-filed and rejected as a duplicate since the other return had already been e-filed under the second username. No fees were collected for this return.
The second username has been used in prior years to create and file returns. This account was started and filed using the Classic package. At no time was this account free. This username does not qualify for the Free package due to the Earned Income Credit on the account. The Earned Income Tax Credit is equal to approximately 1/3 of the total refund.
The first username did start in the Free package but also has the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) included. Due to the EITC, this account was upgraded to the Classic package also. When an account is upgraded, the reason for the upgrade is shown in the Summary/Print or e-file section under ‘Why was I upgraded?’. This return was e-filed and rejected as a duplicate since the other return had already been e-filed. No fees were collected for this return.
The File N Go fees, which allow a customer to file the return and elect to pay the filing fees out of the refund, are outlined before the customer can file. Once the customer chooses this option, they must acknowledge the fees and are shown the refund amount both before and after the fees. Customers can choose to pay the fees by debit or credit card and not use the File N Go option.
The File n Go bank information is listed on the return to allow the IRS to send the deposit to the third-party bank. The third-party bank receives the refund, deducts the fees, and passes the remaining refund amount to the taxpayer using the banking information the customer listed in the account.
Due to the increase in tax-related identity theft problems, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is closely monitoring tax returns. When the IRS suspects a return is fraudulent, the agency will request identity verification (generally done online) from the person whose name and address is listed on the return. The IRS may be asking to verify the ID since the return was filed multiple times without containing the Identity Protection Pin issued by the IRS and not as a result of the program or the File N Go option.
Since the customer chose to receive the refund on a Green Dot card, he would need to contact the third-party bank for the routing and account number needed to verify his identity with the IRS.Review fromMarci V

1 starThe software is not as user friendly as other tax programs. Limited information provided for each section of the return. The software does not allow you to change or delete payment information. The customer service by phone was not very helpful. I was on hold for over 20 minutes just to be told I have to contact the state. Never going to use the software again.TaxSlayer.com

Thank you for your feedback.
The software is designed to assist users file their own returns. Within the program are guided areas as well as Learn More questions to assist the user with filing their return. We also have a considerable Knowledgebase that can be accessed using our Help & Support tab on the top of each screen. If you are still not able to find your answer, customers can reach out by phone or email. Our Premium members also have access to chat and Ask- A- TaxPro.
Review of the account indicates the customer wanted to cancel a payment made to the state after the return had already been e-filed. This is not possible when using a self-preparation program such as ours. Our representatives correctly told the customer to reach out to the state as we are not able to cancel a pending electronic funds transfer. Please refer to https://apps.oregon.gov/Application/TaxPaymentWebClient/Authorization for payment assistance. Your withdrawal date has not yet passed, and you should still be able to make a correction to your payment.
Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience.Review fromJoe N.

1 starTaxSlayer has different levels of service each with a different charge. The least expensive is called Classic. According to their website "Everything in Simply Free, plus All tax situations covered — no exceptions. File all IRS forms, credits, and deductions." Simply not true and misleading! Classic does not cover all tax situations. Most of the time you end up paying $32.95 for a federal return plus $39.95 to file a state return. After years of using TaxSlayer I learned I could never file for free with them but I accepted that. But now they seem to be trying to be more deceptive. Even though I started with their Classic version, when I logged out and logged back in I found myself in their Premium version which costs $52.95 (not $32.95) So without my permission I found myself in a higher priced version with no easy way to get back to working in Classic. I think they do this on purpose. If it is some program error they should fix it or help you at no charge to undo their mistake.TaxSlayer.com

Our Classic package does cover all tax situations. Our Classic, Premium and Self-Employed packages vary based on customer service level – not forms. Only the Free package is based on forms.
The Classic package is for the everyday customer who does not require the assistance of a TaxPro, uses chat, or needs priority support. This customer has unlimited access to phone and email support.
Premium and Self-Employed packages are for individuals who wish to use our chat, Ask A TaxPro or priority support features. Consumers are never automatically upgraded to either the Self-Employed or Premium package. However, they may start their return using either the Premium or Self-Employed packages at the beginning of the tax year. To be upgraded, the customer must attempt to use a premium service and agree to the upgrade and charges before continuing. They can choose to decline the upgrade.
I see two accounts for this customer.
• One started in the Premium package. This account was not upgraded from Classic to Premium. The account was downgraded to Classic after contacting support.
• The other account started in Free and was upgraded to Classic as the information entered was not supported in the Free package.
We understand that this customer reached out to support to have the account downgraded. However, this account was not automatically upgraded. If a customer wants to change their package at any time before e-filing or the use of a premium feature, they only need to contact us. If they qualify for the downgrade (did not use premium feature/ Free), we are happy to downgrade the package for them.Review fromBrigetta B

1 starI was recommended to use this tax slayer for my taxes this year. They deliberately kept rejecting my return for tax year 2023. I gave up. They stole $87 out of my account, because I efiled and they still rejected me return. They are bunch of idiots and thieves.
Till this day I still haven't gotten my funds back or federal return still won't go through. I'll also be reporting them to the better business bearuo as well. Very disappointing and angry. I'm also on disability as well.TaxSlayer.com

Review of this account shows that the return has been rejected multiple times for the prior year AGI/PIN. The prior year AGI/PIN is required when using self-preparation sites such as ours to ‘sign’ the return.
• If the taxpayer did not file a 2022 return, they would indicate this in the e-file section of the program.
• If they filed by paper, they would also enter that the return was not filed for 2022 as th4e IRS will not update their tool with amounts that were paper filed.
• If they did file a 2022 return electronically, they need to enter the AGI from line 11 of the prior year return.
This information was conveyed to the customer by email and phone.
Our refund policy is stated on our homepage. The return only needs to be corrected to be accepted by the IRS.
I will enter a refund request for this customer.Review fromBrayden S.

1 starNever had a problem until this year, they forced me into signing up for a dot card if i didn't want a check, no option for direct deposit which ended up having to wait for the irs to mail in verification for the new account, the price was still listed as 39.99 but this year they charged me over 100. Never using them again.TaxSlayer.com

The customer used the File N Go option as they have in previous years (2020 - 2022). This election allows the user to file their return and pay the program fees out of their refund. The third-party bank that handles this transaction charges a $39.99 fee.
Customers using File N Go can choose from direct deposit or a prepaid card. This is presented in the e-file portion of the program. Customers using File N Go may not select mailed check.Review fromKarl S

1 starInitially I selected the least expensive filing option which was less than thirty dollars. After figuring my taxes, I declined all the additional services and was surprised to see the processing fee had doubled even though the program acknowledged that I had declined all the add-one. The final checkout page doubled the processing fee yet again to a sum of $120 and change. This bait and switch is blatantly dishonest and should be illegal. For shame!TaxSlayer.com

Review of this account shows the customer did select the basic package to file the federal return for a price of $22.95. The customer then added a state return and elected to pay the program fees form the refund rather than paying by credit or debit card. Each of these additions are an additional $39.95 and $39.99 fee respectively. The total for the program fees was $102.89.
These fees are itemized out and shown to the customer prior to e-filing. The customer must check the box indicating they agree to the charges as shown. Additionally, the customer can see these in the account under the Summary/Print tab > Refund Agreement.
I see that the customer has been a long time user of our product and has not used the File N Go feature before. Since the customer may not be aware of the File N Go process, we are happy to offer a free 2024 Classic Federal plus one state return next year. When the 2024 return is created, email us and we will apply the discount to the return. You must use the same username to have the discount applied.Review fromMonica F

1 starMy taxes were failed using this company and to date I have not received my return, nor has it been returned to the IRS. I was told it was part of a group of fraudulent refunds returned to the IRS when I reached out to the company. They told me the same lie about it taking 12 weeks, well my return was filed in June so it’s been well over 12 weeks. When I contacted the IRS they had no information regarding the return of my refund. I would never recommend this company to anyone, I give them zero stars.TaxSlayer.com

We understand it can be difficult when you do not receive your federal refund.
I have reviewed your account and see that you elected to pay your tax preparation fees using the option to have the fees deducted from your refund. When this option is selected, your funds are sent from the IRS to a third-party bank instead of directly to your account. The third-party bank will then deduct our fees and theirs (for their service) and forward the remaining portion to your bank.
The account does not show the customer reached out to TaxSlayer support by phone or email.
Looking at your TPG account (https://taxpayer.sbtpg.com/), the third-party bank has indicated they sent the refund back to the IRS. The third-party bank does not consult nor inform us when this happens as we are not the taxpayer. The taxpayer would need to contact the third-party bank themselves to find out why the bank returned the funds as this is privileged information. When the bank returns the funds to the IRS, the process can take several weeks before the IRS acknowledges the receipt of the funds and re-issues a check.
Since TaxSlayer is not a bank and never receives the refund, we recommend the user contact TPG at 800-901-6663 or by email at [email protected] for more information. TPG would be able to provide the taxpayer with a tracking number for the returned funds and be able to answer any questions they may have.
