We were insured through Citizens Insurance for our homeowners policy. They gave the policy to Slide Insurance. We never accepted this insurance because it covered nothing and at a high rate. They billed our mortgage company and received payment from them. We want this money $1,077.00 returned and the policy cancelled. There is no place on their website to cancel and you can't cancel on the phone. We have tried everything to get this policy cancelled with no success.Business Response

As a participant in the Citizens Depopulation Program, Slide did offer to issue a policy to the consumer in the private insurance market. Having received no indication that the consumer did not wish to accept our offer, the Slide policy was issued as of the date when the Citizens policy expired. We recently received a request from the consumer to cancel the policy, and were able to secure the required documentation to process the cancellation as requested.Initial Complaint

On Oct 10, 2024 I filed a property damage claim due to wind and rain. I was outside of the hurricane zone, wind speed did not get above 40mph, but due to all the excess rains and saturated ground, I had a very large tree fall. Slide Insurance company is refusing to allow the claim under storm/wind damage stating since there was a hurricane up north, then I fall under hurricane deduction not storm deductable. We had no hurricane winds at all and was outside hurricane zone.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: Slide insurance required that they contract for the removal of the tree off my house and the neighbors. They also informed me the tree would be completely removed including the *****. The ***** and several roots are still on the ground any where between 8 inches to 2 feet of roots sticking up in the air. The company Slide hired is called *************, they then subcontractor out to another tree service and when I contacted both companies they said that Slide did not require them to remove the *****.

I am rejecting this response because: I have not had the tree removed per the policy, the tree was completely uprooted and once it was trimmed down to base, it was stood up. My policy provides for the removal of this tree.
I was in contact with Slide on October 30th and they were claiming the tree was not located on my property, so they are not required to remove it. I corrected them and informed them my yard does not stop at the fence line, but at the water. My policy provides the complete removal of debris. This tree was completed separated from the ground and therefore, debris. They have not fulfilled their duty to the fully paid policy
I have a large hazard left on my property, I have emailed, left voice messages, only to finally get a phone call on October 30th and them claiming the tree was on my property. After correcting that error on their part, I was told it would be reevaluated and they would be in contact. I have received NO communication from them, Slide took me completely out of the equation for removing this tree and hired their own agent.
I expect the remaining base debris to be removed.

Monthly payments go to Slide as part of my mortgage payments. On September 5, 2024, I called to file a claim on my home for damage from Hurricane ******. Once I contacted them to report the damage from the storm they sent a company out to tarp the area. An inspector came out a few days later. A few days after the inspector came, another heavy rainfall caused additional damage. On September 19, 2024, I noticed part of the ceiling falling in the garage. I called the insurance company again to have someone come out and fix the tarp or repair the damage. Slide denied this request to fix the tarp and on that same phone call, I found out they denied my claim to fix the damage. When I asked why they denied the claim they stated it was not weather damage from the storm and subsequently sent me a denial letter. On September 26, 2024. Hurricane ****** blew the tarp off my roof, and it is currently hanging off my roof onto the neighbor's house. On September 27, 2024, I called to have them get the tarp put back on my roof and they stated there was nothing they could do. I am at a loss as far as what to do. I have no repair, the tarp is not covering the area, and I do not know what else to do. I would like to have this storm damage repaired.Business Response

In November 2023 my home owners insurance went out of business and slide company became my new insurance provider. I only found this out 10 months later when I went to shop insurance companies. I thought my mortgage payment went up $500 a month because of taxes, not a new insurance company. I was never notified by slide that they were my new carrier and I did not sign any declarations accepting the policy. After doing some research I found out slide was picking up customers in ******* since many companies were pulling out of the state. I understand they may have been trying to help florida homeowners stay insured but from my findings they were supposed to make the policy the same or at least similar to the policy I had prior. My annual premium was $2,400 with the old company and the slide premium was $4,200 a year. The coverages were not the same and the premium almost doubled! When I requested a copy of the declaration I noticed it was signed by the owner of slide. I cant comprehend how an insurance company can send my bank a bill without my knowledge and get it paid without any signature or acknowledgement on my behalf. How is this not embezzlement? I should be refunded for these losses I incurred.Business Response

Slide replaced Ms. ******* UPC policy in February of 2023. At that time, we sent a letter explaining that the coverage and premium would remain unchanged through the rest of the policy period, which ran until November of 2023. In September, we sent the renewal offer for consideration. We made no changes to coverage other than increasing the Dwelling limit to keep up with inflation.
We are committed to keeping premiums as low as possible while remaining strong enough financially to respond when our policyholders need us.Still, we completely understand concerns regarding the increased cost of insurance and hope we can be of service in the future.Initial Complaint

Slide billed my mortgage company for home insurance after my Farmers policy was canceled without me agreeing to it. They need to be sanctioned over this activity as I have seen others with the exact same issue.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:The notion this was to make affected customers lives easier is an attempt at spinning the narrative. They took advantage of people impacted by farmers leaving and signed them up for policies they did not agree to in the first place at huge markups. Now I have to wait for the check a refund where as if they had offered insurance rather circumventing consumers this whole issue would be mute.

Received notification from my present insurance company - State Farm Insurance/Farmers Insurance dated October 9, 2023, advising me that a business decision had been made to stop offering Farmers branded coverage in *******. The notification also stated they have an agreement with Slide Insurance Company to offer me a policy. I received an email from Slide this month stating they had all of my information including my mortgage carrier information. I did not speak to any Farmers representative by phone, send an email or letter authorizing them to forward any of my information to anyone.I checked with the BBB this morning and you have complaints against this company billing mortgage companies unauthorized by the homeowners and being paid by mortgage companies.This company is sending out flyers in the mail and I received what they call a renewal packet in the mail which I did not request by phone, email or letter for over $2,000 yesterday August 24, 2024.I live in a townhouse and have always had condo insurance. I have never paid this amount for a policy. On 7/15/24 Slide issued a new insurance policy based off of ******** Insurance leaving the state of *******. Upon receipt of the Slide Policy, I contacted Slide and advised them that I did not approve of the policy / coverages. The Policy was requested to be canceled 8/13/24. The policy start date is 9/7/24. The subject policy never went into effect. Payment was made from my escrow account to ********************** on 8/6/24 in the amount of $3,047.00. I have reached out to Slide on several occasions requesting the money be refunded as the policy was cancelled and never went into effect. On each phone call I am being told something different, first we dont have the payment, then they have the payment but they have to wait 5-7 days to process a refund; then I was told 8-10 days to process a refund. there is no active policy with Slide and Slide is in possession of $3,047.00 that is needed so that I can pay for the homeowner's policy I did approve and sign for. Slide's delay tactics in refunding money for a an insurance policy that was not approved by me and never went into effect amount to theft and fraud.Business Response

As seen in other complaints about Slide Insurance I too have fallen victim to Slide's shady practice of billing our mortgage company for insurance we don't want. Our Farmers policy didn't expire until 8/25/24, we received a ridiculous quote from Slide and found other insurance. I contacted Slide on 7/8/24 @ 3:47pm (I have written documentation from Slide) and told them I do not want their insurance and not to attempt to bill my mortgage company. Today in the mail I received notice from my mortgage company that they were in fact billed by Slide and payed out of my escrow. Now my escrow is over $3000, negative and my lender is looking to raise my monthly payment. This kind of business is predatory and underhanded. I want the funds refunded to my mortgage company immediately. This type of company should be banned from doing business in *******.Business Response

When Farmers decided to no longer insure homes in *******, they entered into an agreement with Slide to ensure continuation of coverage for their policyholders. Accordingly, Slide issued a policy to the consumer 55 days ahead of the renewal date, and the premium invoice was sent to his mortgage company, reflecting the billing preference he had established with Farmers. A few days later, the consumer contacted us and requested that the policy be cancelled, which we immediately did. We also notified the mortgage company that the policy had been cancelled. Six weeks later, however, we received payment from the mortgage company,prompting us to issue a full refund to the consumer.
Our objective throughout this process has been to present an option to the consumer for continued coverage. Of course, we completely understand his decision not to take the policy. Unfortunately,we have no control over the actions of mortgage companies.Customer Answer

I made sure to let them know I did not want their insurance product and received a written notice of cancelation date 7/8/24, they then billed my escrow on 8/12/24. Slide wants to make it sound like it was my and ******* fault. This was intentional by Slide. I'd like my money back that was stolen.

Slide went without my permission or signature. They contacted my mortgage company and deducted $2,557 from my escrow as if they were my new insurer. When I contacted my mortgage company, they told me I would have to go after Slide to get the money back into my escrow. I.I never signed any approval for Slide to be my insurer.I notified my agent that I did not want Slide and 2. I contacted Slide to tell them the same thing as that is what they told me to do. In accordance with Florida law, the consumers prior carrier notified him in March, 2024 of Slides offer to provide coverage for his property in the private market. Since we received no indication that our offer had been rejected, the Slide policy was issued to the consumer on July 9, 2024. On August 9, 2024, we received a request from the consumer to cancel the Slide policy. We have processed the cancellation and are issuing a full refund of the premium paid.Initial Complaint

I asked for a home owners insurance quote when I receive the quote I sent an email that the quote was ridiculously high and wasn't moving forward with their company. Our records show that the policy was bound with Slide by the consumers agent on July 6, 2024. Slide had no indication at that time that the policy was not wanted by the consumer. On July 12, 2024, we do show that the consumer submitted a request to cancel the policy,but we did not respond in a timely manner to this request. The cancellation has now been processed and a full refund is being issued to the consumer.
