I contracted Safeway to help with my military move. They subcontracted the work to MC Movers LLC from ***** **. During the packing by ******************** and ***** my valuable personal property to include multiple watches and gold necklaces were stolen. This occurred on Jan 4, 2023. I obtained a binding estimate from Safeway Relocation Services on 4/26/23 of $7303.65 for my move. The binding estimate was based on a detailed inventory of the items we would be moving; I dedicated a substantial amount of time to obtaining a realistic cost estimate because I was required by my husbands employer to obtain three moving quotes and select the lowest quote in order to get a partial reimbursement from them. Of the three quotes I received, Safeway Relocation Services was the lowest so I scheduled our move and paid a deposit of $2722.36 on 4/27/23. Movers from We Care for You arrived at my old house on 6/13/23 and loaded everything into the truck. AFTER everything was loaded, the ******* informed me that the move would actually cost $11588.16. This was substantially higher than the binding estimate (a small part of the increase, $684.80, was for packing services which I have no issue with). The discrepancy of $3599.71 is unacceptable and it was also unacceptable to be informed of it after everything was loaded. While We Care for You has offered me $137 to cover damaged items, they have failed to resolve my overcharge claim. I believe Safeway Relocation Services is responsible for resolving my issue and issuing a refund for the overcharge. I tried to contact my Safeway Relocation Services consultant, *****************, about this issue via his email at *************************************** and his phone number at **************, but I have not received a response. I booked a move from **********, ** to **********, ** through Safeway Relocation Services. They utilized the services of *********************. I was charged $500 for Expedited Moving. Safeway communicated that Premier would deliver on about July 17-July 18. This was also indicated on my contract.I called Safeway and Premier multiple times after July 18 and did not get a response. I was then told by Premier that I was not listed for Expedited Moving and that the $500 fee was only for moves within 100 miles. I have text documentation of this communication.I am requesting a refund of the $500 EXPEDITED FEE to resolve the issue. I reached out to Safeway and they informed me that Premier received all fees after the booking fees. I paid the Premier mover with a money order issued to Premier. Date of Contract Initiation: 6/22/23 Account/Job number: ******** Date of Transaction: Downpayment of $690.00 paid on 6/23/23 As show onn the contract, I was promised and guaranteed by Safeway agent ***************************** *************) that my belongings would arrive on August 1st or 2nd. I requested before the time of payment to pay for expedited delivery of my belongings. I was told no. He said I did not need that service, I pushed for it, and he pushed back saying it was unnecessary and that the moving companies they contract out to use the 1st available delivery date on the contracts as the guaranteed delivery date. I was told that purchasing guaranteed delivery was only for much larger moves than mine, or moves that were longer in distance. In my mind, moving from Nebraska to ******** is a pretty big distance. I told him this and he continued to discourage me from purchasing guaranteed delivery despite my insistence upon wanting to do so. The reason I wanted the guarantee on the ship date is because I recently had abdominal surgery that was complicated by the finding of a golf-ball sized cyst and stage IV endometriosis; my incisions opened up and so my recovery was further extended. I just moved to an area where I dont know a single person. My mother flew down on August 1st to be here in time for the movers to arrive. She leaves on August 8th, which is the day my things are supposed to arrive. This leaves me at great risk of injury in unpacking my belongings by myself. I severe anxiety and bipolar disorder. Living in disarray with only a suitcase and air mattress has already had an extremely negative impact on my mental health, and going for weeks without my belongings would make this significantly worse.Initial Complaint

Original quote for move from *******, ** to ************ was $5210.08. I paid a deposit, per contract, of $1421.00 on June 7, 2023. Call from ******* at Safeway on July 17, 2023 to verify inventory. Since inventory "cubic feet increased so your rate increased...need an additional $1912.36 in deposit. The remaining balance to be paid to the driver at 50% and the remaining 50% upon delivery. Storage, per contract was free for 30 days and re-delivery was free.Received a text from ************ stating they were Accessible Movers, the moving company, that had been contracted to move my items. They stated my "new 50% balance was $3000." My items had already been picked up by the movers and he was asking for payment. I paid by AMEX.**********************, texted on July 4 and stated he was delivering the next day and stated he needed "remaining balance of $3635 in cash or ** postal money order." I responded that amount was incorrect and they demanded full payment or they would store the items at my expense. They stated they would not store for free nor would they provide free re-delivery. I have tried multiple times to communicate with Safeway to *******, ****, and others about this issue. I've used email, texts, and phone calls without any response. The amount paid was $9,968.36, almost double the original quote. I feel like I have been held hostage by this company with no response to my concerns and threats that they would keep my items unless I paid them.My items are now in a 10x20' storage unit which I had to pay for myself and will have to hire another company to move to my new home.Initial Complaint

My complaint is related to this business being a scam. We received a phone call after requesting a quote on their website, where a man was very nice and convinced ** that, after receiving a thorough inventory list from us, that we were under scale for getting the smallest moving truck available, and quoted us a maximum of $2000 for our move from ** to OH. My boyfriends company paid the deposit, we received a contract through email, and were unable to contact the company from that point on. Our move was supposed to be yesterday, but no moving truck showed up. We never received a call from Safeway, the phone lines are busy 24/7, and our direct line to the man that initially helped us is no longer in service. We ended up having to rent a Penske truck and move ourselves across the country. The lost money from this deposit is now deducted from our relocation package from my boyfriends company, which is the only way we were able to afford this move. We contracted with Safeway Relocation Services to move our items from ******************************************************************* to ************************************. This was under the name ************** and we were given a work order number of *******. Our items were collected by a subcontractor on July 24th (which was inconveniently a day after the time window we were given and prepared for). According to the subcontractor, the items have since been stored somewhere in ********. It is now 19 days after the move out and I have repeatedly emailed, called and left messages, and I have not heard anything back. Alarmingly, their main phone number now appears to be disconnected. They were paid in full at the time of the move out, but I now have no idea where our possessions are or if the company is still in business. According to the contract, they say it may take up to 30 days to complete the move. While we were led to believe it would be much faster, I would be happy just to know that we will be getting our things, and that they aren't stashed in some storage unit until they get auctioned off. I need to hear from them, and I would like this to involve the scheduling of the delivery of our possessions.Initial Complaint

On 5/8 I contacted Safeway Relocation Services to request moving services. I spoke with a representative named ***** who presented an excellent quote with price matching of other companies. Though I was skeptical and wanted to talk with my partner, he was pretty aggressive that I make a deposit (which he insisted was fully refundable within 3 days) to secure my quote. I obliged and unfortunately paid an e-check of $1,090.53. After speaking with him I looked into this company and became concerned that they had a nearly identical name to another moving company. I called that company who insisted the company I used was a scam and they were pursuing legal action. Worried, I immediately requested a cancellation and did not sign any additional documents. "*****" was very upset and berated me over the phone, but I insisted. I was informed I would be contacted by their billing department later that day to coordinate a refund. The following timeline has then occurred:5/9: Sent follow-up email again requesting a cancellation. No response.5/10: Called, spoke with "*******" who said the billing department would call me on 5/11 5/11: Called, spoke with someone who said I would be transferred to "****" from billing but was transferred to an automated message. Left a message, no response.5/18: Called, spoke with "******" who claimed to not know any names and refused to provide a direct number to the billing department. Did claim my case was marked as cancelled and said I should hear from someone in 1-2 business days.5/24: Called, spoke with someone who repeated my case was cancelled, e-checks are refunded with paper checks, and my check would be mailed shortly.Since 5/24 it has been radio silence from this "company". All repeat calls now are busy, I presume because their scam has been shut down. I can only image how many others were scammed in this same way and am grateful I did not pursue further services with them.Initial Complaint

Scam! Dont do it! Safeway took our deposit and then doubled it the day before our move. After the truck was loaded, they added another 50%. Now my stuff is missing and Safeways number is disconnected. They got me for $21.5k.Initial Complaint

Safeway Relocation is the parent company that subcontracted the company called Tacoma Movers. On 07 Oct 2022 Tacoma Movers through Safeway Relocation coordinated and pickup my household goods from *************. It is now 27 June 2023 and I still don't have my household goods almost 10 months later. Tacoma Movers admitted to myself and the parent company that they messed up this situation all winter long with delay and excuses after excuse. In March 2023 they sent an email apologizing of the miscommunication issues and promise a 100% refund. So I could go with a different company. To date none of that has happened and neither the parent company or Tacoma Movers will not respond to no email traffic.
