I was compelled by ******************** to install a new roof. Solar Energy Systems was contracted to remove my solar panels, which they did early October. My roofing company was delayed due to Hurricane Helenes passing, but were able to finish the job on Sunday, Oct 6th. I was hoping to have Solar Energy Systems **************** to come on Friday after the passing of Hurricane ******. The numbers I have all go to voice mail and I have not received return calls. I went down to the office on Friday (10/11) and talked to ******, handing her the final sign off by the Palm Bay inspector, which she copied. The gentlemen in the office encouraging told me they thought they could restore my panels on Monday. Now, Tuesday, I still have no response. Debbies telephone number she gave me to contact her is either incorrect, or people answering her phone are dishonest in telling me this number is a different business. I have been successful in talking to ***** in the *********** (answering service?) who tells me they are very short on workers. ***, who does permits and scheduling, does not return my calls. I will go back to their Melbourne Office tomorrow (10/16) to see if I can get a straight answer from someone.Customer Answer

Dear BBB,
It appears that your contact with Solar Energy Systems has been effective. I received a call from ****** (I now have her correct number) apologizing in behalf of the company and letting me know that my reinstallation of my solar panels has actually been scheduled (11/18). Although this is not as soon as I had hoped, there is a light at the end of this tunnel. Thank you for your help, without which, I dont think I ever would have been scheduled.

I bought the system on 09/01/2017, for $8076.00 ( which I still owe $1700.) they gave me a ten year warranty ( which is clearly marked on the contract). My daughter noticed on April 15th that it was leaking. I called that same day (Sunday) and left a voicemail. Then called again the next day. They sent a tech out on Tuesday to fix it and I was told it was it was completely shot an was not covered by the warranty. That a new pump would cost me $600.00 and a new tank would cost me *******. I told him, I am still paying for this system and still owe $1700.. so I called the company and told them what it said and also that my paper work said I was under warranty. They told me, they would look into it. I gave them a week before calling them back. I told them again I am still waiting for them to fix it and I have a warranty. Nothing happened. I gave them a few days and called them again. I talked to ***** and she said please send a picture of the order, so I did. I waited a week and heard nothing. I called again and was told that they were trying to contact ***** to see if they would cover it. I then called them after a week to see where we are on this and was told they would expedite it. I just called today and talked to **** and he said he could not tell me anything that he would be in touch. **** became somewhat rude when I tried getting more info on what was going on. All he kept saying was is there anything else I cant help you with. I told him I have been without hot water for three weeks now and I am disabled and have small children here. He again said , is there anything else I can help you with . I threaten to take him to court, again he said ,(is there anything else I can help you with. I told him yes, directions to the court house. Still nothing.Business Response

We have taken care of ******************. Unfortunately, since the deterioration of her system was completely due to negligence it would not be covered under warranty. But we were able to get approval from management to install a new tank for her as a customer service gesture. I am not sure why this has not been closed out. Since the tank swap out was done on 5/17/24. We removed her 65 gallon solar tank and installed a new 80 gallon solar tank.

Hello, this company (Solar Energy Systems, at ***********************************************************************, damaged my new roof when installing the solar panels on 2021, the water has being accumulating and wearing away the ceiling and opening a hole from where the water is leaking now, we did not noticed until a few months ago that we started seeing a stain, this is creating mold and the water coming down from the ceiling to the garage smells bad and is damaging items in my garage, I contact this company by phone and email and finally in person once and they did send technicians to remove the panel so the roof could be repair they also told me to email them the repair estimated and when i did they told me they were not going to repair the roof that i should it do it because the solar panels pass the city inspection, but when the inspector came they did not go to the ceiling or the attic to check if there was hole or if everything was properly seal, that is almost impossible to tell since there is metals covering the hole, I really don't have the money to repair that on my own and it is deteriorating more and more with every rain, my electric bill is getting highther because the solar panels are not functioning anymore, I still have to do the monthly payments to pay the solar panels because it was done by credit, i call many lawyers and nobody wants to help me or take the case because they estimate the damages are not the amount of money they are looking for to earn, so I am basically trap, and I have my parents of 83 and 93 living with me and using the garage and I am just hoping the ceiling will never drop when they are around and that the mold will not makes us sick, I hope you can help us or give us ideas on what to do, Thank you so much in advance and I hope to hear back from you.Business Response

Thank you so much for reaching out to us. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns, and we want to assure you that we take the situation seriously.
We understand that the installation of the solar system at your home back in 2021 passed all required inspections by the local building department, and we've attached the documentation for your peace of mind.
It sounds like there were no issues until January this year when you noticed a leak. As soon as you let us know, we sent a technician to your home on February 1st, who thoroughly checked and sealed the areas of concern to stop any more water from getting in. I'm really glad to hear that these fixes helped, as noted in your kind email from February 5th, thanking us for our quick action and of course, this visit was on the house.
Now, about the request for further repairs to the roof and drywall, plus the removal and reinstallation of the solar panels, we've reviewed this carefully with our insurance provider. According to their evaluation and our records, these issues don't seem to be linked to how the solar system was installed. Since our work passed the stringent city checks initially, our insurance has concluded that these damages aren't covered by our policy.
We truly understand how challenging this must be for you, especially with your parents in the home, and we want to help make things safer and more comfortable. Although we can't take on the costs of the repairs, we're here to support you by guiding you on how to manage these repairs, suggesting reliable local contractors who can offer affordable rates, and helping you explore other financial support options, like your homeowner's insurance.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: i have proof that they did accept the responsibility and told me to email them the roof repair estimated cost, and as soon as I did email them the estimated cost they change their mind and started ignoring my phone calls, before that they did send somebody to fix the roof damage but I was not at the roof with them to inspect what they were doing so I did trust on them and thank them for it, but as soon as we have another rain after that we notice how the liking was worse and for consequence the damage at the ceiling got worse also, the liking is coming from a hole the solar company installers made to connect the solar panel to the roof, nobody else made that hole but them, I am attaching a copy of some emails from the solar panel company requesting me to send them the estimate for repair from a roofing contractor, and a letter from my home Insurance company.

Had solar panels installed. Installation was completed about a month and a half ago. Solar panels are not working as promised in contract. Have contacted the company 4 times and they still have not fixed the issue. Only half the system is working which is causing me to still consume electricity, in addition to pay for solar equipment that was supposed to replace my electric bill. System has not functioned correctly from the beginning. Not a good sign for a brand new system of whats to come over the next 25 years this system will be under warranty when it doesnt work brand new. The company just doesnt care I have a non functional system and that I am now paying for solar and electric. I intend on filing complaint with florida licensing and attorney general in addition to contacting my attorney.Business Response

This was a new install that was given permission to operate by FPL on 6/21/23. We were contacted and sent technicians out on 6/26/23 and 6/27/23 to fix some issues with the installation. The system is working like it should since that time. We also went back in on 7/24/23 and installed a free upgrade of consumption monitoring for the homeowner's inconvenience.Initial Complaint

The Solar Hot water system was installed 3/30/10 by Solar Energy Systems paid $4145 The solar panel had been replaced once and repaired 2x and would not repair when it leaked again rendering it useless. The panel has a 10-year warranty and a limited lifetime warranty. On 3/29/22 they were called about a leak again but would not repair it.There is a limited lifetime warranty if I pay 50% of the cost but they refused to honor it or answer my requests.I contacted ************** of ********************** Affairs but they could do nothing for me because Solar Energy Systems has chosen not to respond, as per *********************** FDACS.****** collectors carry a LIFETIME LIMITED WARRANTY. Any CORONA collector found to be defective in material or workmanship subsequent to the initial Ten (10) Year Warranty will be replaced, so long as the purchaser pays fifty percent (50%) of the published collector list price at the time the replacement is required.Business Response

The homeowner called in on 3/29/22 saying he had a leak on the roof. We had a technician go out on 4/7/22 and found that the panel was not repairable. The homeowner is absolutely correct that the panel had a 10 year warranty and a limited lifetime warranty but that is through the manufacturer not the installer. Solar Energy Systems was contacted and inspected unit and they said it wasn't covered under the warranty even though it had a life time warranty for 50% of the cost. They refused to honor the warranty so I filed a complaint with the ******** of ******** Services Case#****-23679 but Solar Energy Systems but they never responded, "The Business has chosen not to respond" as per the Dept. and the case was closed. These panels were replaced once and repaired 2x by the manufactured and now they say the manufacturer is out of business due to their delays and failure to respond. They picked the manufacturer not I so they should honor the replacement and or refund of the cost.

I am rejecting this response because: Solar Energy System is the company I contracted with they are the ones that chose Corona Solar Collectors not me and they must be held accountable. My contract was with Solar Energy Systems and they are responsible for the Solar Panel and if their supplier went out of business it is on them. They should have known and researched the company they purchased from and that is on them. As I stated 3x the panel was repaired and I was without them for several weeks at 3 different times they should have known better. I am not a ****** pig for them to try out panels they are the contractor and responsible for the parts they use. If they are not going to take responsible for their supplies it should be on record that they are not reliable and I want my complaint posted as such so no one else will be deceived.

Unfortunately, we have done all we can for this customer and fulfilled our contractual obligations. At this time, there is nothing more we can say to satisfy the homeowner. As stated on the contract, our contractor warranty was 2 years. Then the manufacturer warranty continued. We have no ability to foresee a manufacturer going out of business 12 years in the future, therefore this is not our fault.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:The contractor chose the manufacturer I did not, therefor it is his responsibility to stand behind his product. Obviously the contractor did not properly vet his suppliers and most likely chose the cheaper and/or inferior product. I have a solar panel in one of my past houses that is 37 years old and still functioning properly. It is obvious that this was a inferior product as it failed 3x in less than 10 years. It was still under warranty when I first called the contractor and they ignored both myself and the ***** of *********** and Consumer Services. They are negligent in their contractual services.

The BBB is obviously useless as they listen to the business and not the consumer. I have been a project manager for 15 years and every contractor I have dealt
with will stand behind their subcontractors. The fact that your contractor did not even reply to the ***** of *********** and consumer services shows that they
are irresponsible they purposely ignored every agency that represent the consumer and now the BBB has proven they have no interest in representing the
consumer and this report will be passed on and made public so that consumers will realize the BBB sides only with the contractors. This is the second time you have failed. Last time I sent written proof of the contractor lying and then all our correspondence disappeared along with the agent handling the case.
regretfully

In the fall, 2021, I contacted Solar Energy Systems regarding installing a new roof, replacing my solar domestic hot water panel and my pool heating panels which they had previously installed. I sought the installation of a new solar electric system with battery backup.Their salesman ******************************* responded. He reviewed my electric bills for energy consumed He converted my billed energy into kilowatts, then into solar panels needed and mapped panel placement on my roof. The conversion of energy into panels and their placement was never adequately explained. He presented me with a contract for a 9 kilowatt systems with two batteries for backup and replacement of the older solar installation. ******* assured me that the proposed system would provide enough power for my home in the event of a failure of the electric grid. After seven months experience it is obvious that the system they installed does not provide enough power for our needs in case of a grid failure. While the electric bill has been reduced, it has never been minimized. I have sought be telephone and email contact an in-person review of my systems operation to determine the cause of the disappointing output, but no one has responded or appeared.Furthermore, shortly after installation there was a failure of a battery pack component which I noted on the app. I had been assured that the company monitored our system in their office. The individual who was assigned to monitor later told me that he was constantly assigned to the field and never had monitoring time. When the replacement arrived it was physically installed but not properly connected to the system. I had to wait another ten days for the final, correct installation.Business Response

****************** is partially correct and is not recalling all of the details of the original meeting with *************************. He was initially presented with a quote for a **** kW solar system. Because he was also getting a new roof and replacing his solar pool heating system, he expressed concern that the entire project was more expensive than he anticipated. We agree it was a big project, but the roof could not be reduced in size and his solar pool heater, which he was happy with for years was old and since there was no problem with performance, it was exchanged for a newer system. This left only the new solar electric system left to reduce the system cost. We did reduce the system size with his knowledge and also the contract price buy agreed if the system did not reduce his utility bill as much as he had hoped, he could add more panels in the future as the budget allowed.
The battery failure did not occur during installation as it was all working after inspection and sign off by ******************. It did fail after a while and both he and Solar Energy Systems was notified by the factory through the monitoring system installed. They created an RMA to replace the unit which our installation crew replaced once the replacement unit was shipped to us. Once installed the unit had to do a software update and upload all of its information back to the factory. Because it takes hours for that to complete, we came back at a later date to commission the replacement. Since there were no power failures during that time there was no loss of power to the client.
Regarding the monitoring, we do not monitor all our customers systems 24 hours per day. We have access to them 24 hours a day but when something fails as was the case with the battery. The factory notifies the custom and us by email, which they did. I will assume ****************** misunderstood that we have access to his monitoring at all times to the factory monitors and alerts if there is an issue.
We will contact him and see what else we and do for him as soon as the hurricane threat passes.

I am rejecting this response because:
It contains many inaccuracies.I never had a budget for this project and never communicated that I had one. When the salesman gave me a price for the roofing portion of the job, I countered with a much less expensive one from a legitimate vendor. No reasonable person should consider that a budget statement.
The salesman miscalculated the kilowatt power of the proposed system. I am preparing to add additional panels to complete the system. When I repeatedly requested quotes from this vendor, they didnt respond. I am actively seeking quotes from other vendors. Solar Energy has NEVER submitted a quote for supplemental work. They unethically attempted to bill me beyond the contractual price, which I refused, during the course of the work. I did make modifications to the contract, not required of me, during the work.
The project never involved replacing the existing systems, but rather removing them so the roofing work could proceed. After the roofing work was completed, the systems were re-installed. By necessities, some new components were used, but the pool heater was not replaced. His claim demonstrates their confusion, miscalculations and delays in completion.
I recognized the battery failure, acknowledged by the vendor, while using the Enphase app. Vendor never notified me that they were aware of the failure and so I reported it to them. The vendor admits that two processes were necessary to repair the problem. One service call could have accomplished both tasks, but they incompetently made two trips and mislead me into believing that the first trip would solve the problem, which it didnt. Again, I had to notify the vendor that a problem continued, before they made a second trip, about ten days after the first. They seem not to understand what they sell to the public.
I was given verbal assurances by the owner that they would monitor my system. He did not mention a frequency of monitoring, but standard usage suggests it will be more often than rarely, which is in fact what it was. This was another instance of the vendor misleading me and denying me appropriate customer service for their enrichment.
This relationship was finally ruptured because I made many phone calls, and sent many emails requesting assistance that were never answered.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
***************************Business Response

I am the owner of Solar Energy Systems and after speaking to ******************** for a lengthy period of time, I am convinced that it is not within my power to satisfy him. I have profusely apologized that his job did not go as smoothly as it should have. He did not accept my apology or offer to meet with him in an attempt to resolve any problems including adding more panels if necessary. He rejected the apologies; said he would never allow us on his property ever again and that he had already spoken to another solar company who would take over from here. There is an alternate version of ************************ complaint but rehashing it publicly only infuriates him further and I have no intentions of doing that. I wish him well, but it is he who cut-off communications and I will leave it at that. Again, I sincerely apologize for any part we contributed to his dissatisfaction.
