I completed a contract and submitted a 25% deposit with Generators By Design, LLC, in April ********************************************************************* *************** was completed. The home closed in November 2024, I returned the *** approval to the company in December 2024, contacted two other employees of the company by phone and email in early January 2025 to re-confirm approval and resent the paperwork so they could proceed with the installation at which time there was no mention of difficulties with the company. I just indirectly learned (early March 2025) that the company has closed, but I received no formal direct communication from the company about the closure nor have I received any documentation about the status of my original deposit.Initial Complaint

Through the recommendation of our HOA President, I along with two of our neighbors contracted with this company for a generator installation on July 16, 2024. We paid a deposit of $13,000 to ****** ******, one of the co-owners. Our neighbors did the same. The contract clearly states work would be completed in ***** weeks. It is now over 6 months! When we did hear from them, after many attempts, it is delay after delay and excuses after excuses. On December 4, I personally went to their office and found out it was an empty office space. We were told they had other jobs to complete plus the holidays and we assured it would be scheduled for the first week of January. ****** *********, a co-owner came to our residence on Jan. 6 and said his company was short on cash and requested an additional payment of $5,752.50 to order the equipment. Reluctantly, all three of us paid the additional amount. The owner did pour the concrete pad, however nothing more has been done. We have reached out to them numerous times, left messages with very little response in return. When we do speak with them all we get are excuses about staff and money. We no longer have confidence in this company and request a refund of all of money. We were told the office has moved to ********************************************************************************. In total, all of us have paid $54,257.50. Personally, I have paid $18,752.50. This is a bad company, and others need to know so they don't fall prey to this fraudulent scam.Customer Answer

******, Sales, promised the work would be completed timely after the contract was signed and our check was issued. The permit was finally submitted to the City of ****** in June 2024. On 10/4/24 the city approved the permit. We can not get ******* ***** or ***** to return calls, emails, text messages, or the door to their office. As of today, everyone's voicemail boxes at the office are full and can not accept new messages. Our last conversation with ****** was we were on schedule for the slab to be poured just before Thanksgiving. They never called back and they never showed up to pour slab.Business Response

A deposit of $7,163 was made on 4/23/24. I was told to expect it to take 3-4 months to get installed depending on permits. It is now 10/22/24, six months later and not only has it not been installed, they do not respond to any calls or texts. In September, ****** responded once and said they would start on 10/7. I tried to confirm the week leading up to 10/7 and received no response. They did not show up or call. I have called and texted dozens of times without any response during the past 6 months and a dozen times in the last week alone. I either want my generator installed immediately or my deposit returned.Customer Answer

****** from Generators by Design did reach out after AMEX reversed my deposit. He has stated they will install the generator within 3 weeks, but have 6 jobs before me. No idea if they will actually show up or not.
Thank you,

On April 10, 2024, my wife and I signed a contract with ****** *******, owner of Generators by Design LLC, located in **. ***** for $18,775.00. We gave him a $9400 CASH deposit, which he signed for on the contract. We were told the generator would be installed in 6-8 weeks. It's now been 6 months and no generator. As you can see by the enclosed ******************** listings, the generator permit was approved on 6-17-24, but it was never issued because he never paid the $22.00 fee. In the past month, they have installed a PVC conduit from a location where they said they would install the electrical panel and ran it underground to a concrete pad they poured. They also installed the gas line extension as per the gas permit.Unfortunately we've gotten nothing but delays and excuses for not installing the generator, which he can't obviously do if he can't pay the $22 permit fee. I've been trying to contact anyone asssociated with the company for several weeks and he no longer answers his cell phone and no one answers calls to the office or returns calls. We want a refund of a large portion of our deposit so we can purchase another one from a reputable business. At this point I wouldn't want to have to depend on him to properly install a generator or service one. I believe he's probably gone out of business or skipped town. Hopefully he's not out getting more deposits from other storm weary consumers.Customer Answer

To amend my previous complaint, Generators by Design have now installed our Kohler Generator that we contracted for in April. They were very professional and did an excellent job. The 6 month delay they said was due to labor shortage and illness by the principal of the business. Thank you for your help and we appreciate Generators by Design staying with their commitment.

On May 8, I signed a contract with Generators by Design for the installation of a 30kW generator, totaling $25,500. I issued a deposit check for $12,750 to ****** S******* The permit was not filed until June 20, and it was promptly rejected on June 24. Despite waiting two weeks, no action was taken to resolve the issue. After contacting the City of ******************** and making multiple calls and leaving messages, I finally spoke with **** from Generators by Design. He informed me that a letter from my HOA was required, which I immediately provided. He assured me it would be submitted to the ******* August, I checked again, and the permit was still not issued. On September 20, I began calling both office and cell numbers repeatedly and sent numerous emails. After 11 calls to their office, there has been zero response.I have now formally demanded the return of my deposit. As expected, no response. I am prepared to pursue all legal and financial avenues to recover my money. **Do not, under any circumstances, do business with this company.**Initial Complaint

On March 4, 2024, I contracted with Generators by Design to install a backup generator at my residence at **************************************************. The salesman that I dealt with (*****************************) explained to me that the generator would be installed within a time frame of six to eight weeks. The agreed upon price for the installation was $13,597.00 with a required down payment of 50%. At this time, I provided a check to Generators by Design in the amount of $6798.00 for the down payment. After approximately 30 days I became concerned as there seemed to be no progress on the project. I had been watching the Lee County permit website and noticed that the company had applied for permits on 4/1/2024 but that the permits had not been processed and were indicating "payment required" (for electrical). The applicant for the permit is ************************* and the licensed contractor listed was ***************************** license **********. At the six-week **** I called Generator by Design and spoke to **************. I asked him about the installation timetable, and he explained that "***** should not have committed to the six-to-eight-week time frame" as they were running behind in installations. During that call ************** committed to starting the installation the week of Monday May 27, 2024. On Tuesday May 28th I called Generator by Design and left a message asking when the workers would arrive. Later that morning I received a call from a worker (name unknown) who said that the electric installers are "behind schedule" and could not begin until the following week. But they were going to come out to the house and install a gas line. Approximately one hour later two workers arrived and installed a gas line on the exterior of the house from the gas meter to an area where the generator will be located. They indicated that the electric/generator would be installed beginning Monday June 3rd. On Monday no one arrived at the house and when I called the company the phones were not working.Business Response

************************ contract was signed on 3-9-24 it was stated on the contract the install would take place between ***** weeks from signing. June 1st would have been the end of that window. We were in touch with the home owner multiple times and the day that he submitted this I had spoken with him and gave him a definite start date for his project which was June 17. Since that conversation we have already been out there and his project is complete.
