- Additional Info:The Better Business Bureau advises consumers to be aware that individuals representing themselves as loan providers are using the address of offices of the federal government in Washington, DC to appear to be genuine businesses. In dealing with consumers by phone, these groups ask for payment in advance to secure loans (an illegal requirement) and that the payment must be sent by Western Union. Such payments are usually relayed out of the US and are virtually untraceable.
Consumers who have had interactions involving these presentations should file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center, IC3.gov, a project of the US government that will route the information to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
