Worst company ever, I booked an electrician pro from Thumbtack, He came and took $50, but he did not do anything, and he never start the project, and his project was to fix outlets.I asked support to get a refund, but they never help me with that.

I deactivated my account with Thumbtack because the fees they charge for someone just contacting (not hiring) you are exhorbitant, esp. for a new professional. I continue to get bombarded with emails--like a dozen an hour--and I need to CANCEL my account. Can't do that, because it's deactivated. I can't access anything (though it still shows me as logged in). I tried to call, and it directs me to a text--I don't want to text--and have been waiting on text for over 30 minutes. No other options are given on the phone; I tried 3x.I hired someone through Thumbtack, and he was condescending, he lied to me, and the estimate he gave was over twice what I'd paid elsewhere when I had the same issue. I will NEVER use this company again, and I absolutely do NOT recommend it to anyone. Very hard to believe the BBB rating is legit for it.

Ive being using Thumbtack for about a year or more now, and I learned very quick how to navigate the platform as well as to set up my preferences and I explicitly either in settings as well on my introduction am clear when it comes to describe what type of services I provide, which is millwork I am a ********* and cabinet maker i do not PROVIDE any other type of services that dont involve dealing with wood period, being said this morning I was charged for a lead where the costumer on his brief description of his project specifically say that he already have his kitchen cabinets INSTALLED and all he was ******* is someone to install his sink (classical misunderstanding) Im not a GC nor a countertop company not a plumber or a handyman. And have to spent my whole Saturday morning on the phone with my bank to dispute the wrongful charges and have to file for refund take me away from giving my only son the attention and time he deserves as a single parent that truly pieces me off. And so I say to Thumbtack administrator get you software or program reevaluated because it has significant flaws. I see this situation as the typical ***** vs Goliath and even tho on history books ***** prevail against the giant in the modern context we live ***** havent had much success.

I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau regarding this issue and I rejected Thumbtack's response because: It is a non-responsive answer that did not address my concern. The answer actually SUPPORTS my complaint that contractors should NOT be charged for a so-called "lead" where the customer NEVER responds. ********************** wrote: " Customers who have projects or jobs that match your targeting preferences that you entered into your account can reach out to you to learn more about working with your business. When this happens, you are charged a lead fee. You're paying for the value of being connected with a potential customer whether or not you're hired." My complaint to the BBB had nothing to do with not being hired. I accept the fact that some customers who contact me will eventually choose another contractor. My complaint is about those customers who NEVER contact me in the first place, despite a standard four attempts on my part to connect with them. In that case Thumbtack is STILL charging contractors a fee and REFUSES to refund that fee. NOTE that Thumbtack said customers can reach out to contractors, and when this happens, you are charged for that lead. What was left unsaid is what happens when a customer does NOT reach out to a contractor. We should NOT be charged for that so-called "lead" then. Because that "connection" with the customer NEVER HAPPENS because the customer NEVER responded, then the contractor should not be charged a fee. THAT is the issue that Thumbtack refuses to address, and is a major reason why it and other similar services have such a high contractor turnover. If Thumbtack ignores this complaint and refuses to issue refunds where a customer NEVER responds to multiple attempts at contact, then I too will be quitting its service. ********** *********, **

I have been a loyal Thumbtack Pro for 4 years and just today I got charged 6 leads that were out of state when my radius for business was set for "5 miles" within my location. I did this, specifically, because when I first signed up 4 years ago I got a handful of leads that were out of state. The rep at the time said I had to change my radius and parameters, so I did. NOT A SINGLE PROBLEM SINCE... until today. So, I'm thinking it is just a hiccup. 1) They're stupid automated service is the most frustrating thing I've ever encountered. When you try to call their customer service line it forces you to do the "help desk through text". 2) When I finally got ahold of someone they told me, "We'll refund it if you accept the leads and then submit a dispute form. It can take up 4 - 5 business days for it to refund." So, I have to accept the charges then hope they refund me? How does that make sense? 3) Finally they told me, "Looks like your remote training was set for 'targeted leads' so that's why you were charged." BUT I had it set for a 5 mile radius of my business so why is it now, all of a sudden, being targeted around the country? No straight answer, just a "well, that's what your parameters said." I am very disappointed and plan to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else.

This company probably let its contractors buy their ratings. I would NOT trust the ratings of any of the businesses advertising on this platform. My story: I am building a detached garage so I went onto different sites to look for contractors. One of the contractors from Thumbtack, ***************, contact me to set a meeting for an initial consultation. Because I had set up meetings for 5 or 6 potential contractors, I wanted to wear a GoPro to keep a record of who said what. When the project manager from IMD came he saw I had a recorder and he immediately said he doesn't want to be recorded and told me he could do business with me. He promptly turn around and left without saying a word. I gave them a 1-star review for the interaction. Within an hour the owner of the company contact me asking me about the bad review and how it would affect his business. I explained what had happened and have video proof of it. He then apologized and ask if I can remove my review. I said no and that his PM was not professional when we met. The next day, Thumbtack emailed me saying they had to remove my review because it has, as stated; "violated our **************** Policy."How is that a violation of their review policy when it has everything to do with the interations between a business and its clients? I believe that this company will remove bad reviews for the sake of keeping its advertised business happy. So all the 5-star reviews you see there are because the bad reviews are weeded out. I will never hire any business from Thumbtack.
