      I submitted two separate background checks for new employment on October 18 and October 25th. I have been told I'm in the 'final stages' for the last two months. Checkr has no way of directly contacting anybody, aside from a chat box that gives automated responses, or by email from staff who copy and paste the same responses that are on their website. No one has been able to give me direct information on the specifics of my report (what courts and counties they are waiting on) or the date my report will be completed. They have just been giving 'estimates that cannot be confirmed' that just continue to get pushed back. I have now been without employment for the last 2 months because of waiting on the final stages of this background check. Checkr just continues to blame the scenario on the ******** courts and a newly passed clean slate law that has resulted in courts behind behind on updating the public access website large background companies (like checkr) use to complete reports. I have reached out multiple times only to not receive any support on my background check, meanwhile I am now needing to apply for public assistance programs because of waiting on this background check. WZZM news ran a story on them and others that have experienced the same scenario say that they CAN expedite the process by following up and contacting the courts they are saying they haven't received responses from and having the information sent back. This is also what my lawyer says. The real issue is an internal company problem like these type of companies have due to lack of employees and high report numbers.

      I apologize for any inconvenience you may be experiencing. The process has been affected by the new clean slate law recently implemented in ********. As a result, various courts in the state have either restricted public access to criminal records or limited the number of searchable years to comply with the law.

      Checkr continues to work with ******** courts to improve turnaround time in affected Michigan counties. We're also gathering information via phone and in-person court visits to determine when record access will return to normal for particularly impacted courthouses.

      Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about Michigan county delays:

      How is the new clean slate law causing the delay in my report getting completed?
      With the ******** clean slate law going into effect, courts need to process all records to remove eligible charges. However, due to the length of lookback periods - how far back in time companies are requesting records - not all courts can provide the requested records yet. 

      When will my report be completed?
      Different counties and their respective circuit and district courts are updating their records at different rates. Our ETAs are always being updated as we get more information from the courts, but they are dependent on the status being provided by the courts themselves, which are constantly changing.

      When I call the court, why do they tell me that there are no delays?
      There are two courts in each county, a circuit and a district, each containing different types of cases. To conduct a comprehensive search, Checkr must obtain requested records from both courts. A court can report they are not delayed, but this only applies to cases going back to a certain time. If the lookback period requested by the company you applied with is beyond this time, delays can still occur. Both of these reasons may result in delays to the completion of the background check, even if the court reports there are no delays.

      Even though a county may be fully operational, there may be extended delays as the courts work through implementation.  Unfortunately, no searches can be conducted without clerk assistance and we are at their mercy.

      Why is a search being requested from ******** if I have never lived there?
      Our research identifies potential addresses that are associated with your personal identifiable information (PII), not necessarily just addresses where youve lived. For example, it can include counties where youve applied for loans or received mail. The address history is used to determine which counties and other databases must be searched for potential public records. We obtain address histories from various sources including credit and banking history. Although we may not locate any records from a particular county, we will research any potential matches. 

      Why was the report for one company completed, but the other companys report remains pending?
      Different companies have different requirements including how far back in time to request records. If you have any questions about their lookback period, please contact the company you applied with. 

      Please keep in mind that certain circuit and district courts are only doing searches for the last 6 to 7 years. Checkr continues to collaborate with **** to resolve the backlog of reports in ********.

      Can I request a background check report from the Police Department?
      Checkr is unable to accept results from ICHAT (************** Polices Internet Criminal History Access Tool). As stated on the website itself, reports obtained by this service may not be accepted by all organizations as it may miss critical records.

      Can I obtain the information from the courts and provide it to you? 
      For compliance reasons, we are unable to accept search results/records directly from you. Checkr, as well as other background check providers, are affected by the courts limitations. The researchers we work with are professional researchers or record providers utilized by Checkr.

      I am rejecting this response because: "Insert copy and pasted answer here" I am sick of seeing the same copy and pasted responses anytime I reach out for support. That still does not answer any specific questions about my case; what counties and courts are you still waiting on information? That does not tell me updates on when the court was last contacted, because again, you actually do not have to wait for the court to update their website. My lawyer was able to pull up and see the public access website for the 2 Michigan counties I lived in. Why can't anybody provide a detailed explanation on the specifics of my report and when it was someone last 'contacted the court with a phone call or in person visit?'

      This is more than a 'frustration' or 'inconvenience'. I have now been without work for 2 months and can't afford to even have food to eat because of waiting for a background check. I have been more than patient after waiting months to have this report completed, the least someone from Checkr could do is actually look into the messages and contacts I've made and provide me with actual responses.

      There are two courts in each county, a circuit and a district, each containing different types of cases. To conduct a comprehensive Search, Checkr must Search both courts. If both courts in the county have not updated their records, per the requirements of the clean slate law, going back at least 7 years, Checkr cannot complete a background check. Even though a county may be fully operational, there may be extended delays as the courts work through implementation.       I am rejecting this response because: 'continue to insert comments that blame the courts, while Checkr takes no accountability for completing their background checks'. It is totally unacceptable for you to not have a date that my background check will be completed, or have a way to expedite, or even attempt for those background checks in ********. I've called multiple times and no one can give me any specific information about my report, even though they are the ones gathering the information for the report. CHECKR IS NOT AT THE ***** OF THE COURTS. This is simply just an issue with how checkr conducts their background checks and the technology these use to do so. Other background vendors are able to complete ******** background checks. It's just to do with checkr not having enough manpower to complete the checks - this quote came exactly from a member of the Kent county ******** courts. He ****** ' there are other ways to complete the background checks other than using the online public access tool'. THE LAWYER I HAVE OBTAINED SAYS THE SAME, AND WAS ABLE TO SEE THAT BOTH COURTS IN **** AND OTTAWA COUNTY ARE FULLY ONLINE TO USE ANYWAY.

      I am rejecting this response because: that is absolutely unacceptable when YOU ARE THE SERVICE CONDUCTING MY BACKGROUND CHECK. Other vendors that conduct background checks are able to give specific details, even when the background check is in process, about what is still needed in the report. I contacted someone from Checkr, and the lady says 'I can't release any information to you over the phone, I could be out of compliance and lose my job'. How incompetent and an absolute lie. That's why you asked me to verify my social security number and birth date before even speaking to me lady. Other vendors will gladly provide information and how view information about your report. PLEASE DO NOT USE CHECKR TO CONDUCT YOUR BACKGROUND CHECKS. Companies - I know it may seem like a cheap and valuable option, but this company had LOADS of complaints from applicants who have had background checks conducted with them, and LOADS of pending lawsuits because of accidents they've made with their 'top priority technology to make sure background checks are timely and accurate'. Please use another background vendor. Checkr is a company that will soon be going under because of how they conduct their business. Just read through this communication thread and ask yourself if the answers they've provided are responsible and take accountability. Would you want to lose out on GOOD employees because of inaccurate background checks or ones that take MONTHS to complete.

      I sent Checkr, *** a Truth and Facts dispute letter and pending litigation, and I've also attached a non-response letter how they've violated my federal rights as consumer under the ***** I STILL have not received any response or correspondence after sending in my letter to Checkr; which they received on 10/16/2023. The law under the **** requires companies to respond within 30 days of receiving a dispute letter. They have violated a lot of federal laws and I intend to include every last violation in federal court if the adverse cases are not removed from my consumer file immediately.

      **** request a background on my self on November 2 2023, since the date I been waiting is December 14 2023 and they still havent done they response is the same, I try to get info they just tell me is something wrong what the ********* not able to work and provide for my family is so frustrating is more than a month and not answer.

A surprising number of courts in the ** still do not allow or limit public access to electronic records.  Some even require specially trained researchers to go to the county courthouse and physically obtain these records. These restrictions cause the background check process to take more time to complete, sometimes resulting in long delays. Checkr, as well as other background check providers, are being affected by these changes. 

      Please note: County clerks will prioritize individual/personal requests over background check companies, which leads to longer delays for our researchers. Its likely that the clerks will not be familiar with Checkr as we work with professional researchers or record providers to retrieve your information.       I have been driving with lyft and uber for a few years. I have a 5 star rating and have not had any new moving violations or any legal issues since 2010. On Nov. 2023 my account was placed on hold due to a backround check. I have had multiple checks throughout the years and thought nothing of it. A few days later i get a deactivation notice due to checkr reports. First i was told my dmv printout came back with something. So i went and paid for my own. Nothing there! I call checkr back to try and get this situated. Next thing i know, the rep is telling me he needs to clarify my backround check. So we go over it. Im told he will get back to me after its escaladed. I have not been contacted or re activated. I dont know whats showing up or causing my account to be flagged. When i check my report it says consider and there is nothing since 2010 on my report. Ive been trying to get this matter fixed for weeks. Ive tried every avenue from emails to phone calls. Something theyre reporting is not correct! Im losing income due to this companies dereliction of duty.

      CheckR has been conducting a background check on me for Uber. After 6 months of constant delays, CheckR quietly canceled the background check.There was no communication or request for any documents made to me. The ****** says "unable to be completed".At the same time, CheckR also did the same background check on me, for Doordash. That one only took 11 minutes to complete. So apparently, there is nothing wrong with my information. It's CheckR who can't get their job done.I need to finally complete this report for Uber.

      my background checks have been pending for a month now. had one completed in under 24 hrs by their competition just today. total b.s. this is not a duplicate complaint I have two emails with 3 total backgrounds that have been pending for a month and keeping me from working

      I am rejecting this response because: you are the only company having these issues. just had a background check completed earlier this week in under 24 hrs by your competition.  this has kept me from accessing opportunities for a month now. this is completely unacceptable and you should not be able to hold people in limbo for this long. not to mention you s are telling me to wait longer and you don't know when they will completed. I've had dozens of background checks done and they have all taken anywhere from 4 minutes to 2 days. we're at a month and you can't even tell me when you expect them to be completed. this is outrageous. stop blaming the courts.

      on Friday December 8, 2023 Checkr received an order from Lyft to do a background screening for me to be able to use the Lyft platform as a source of income for my household. Checkr is saying they cant complete the background check due to security issues. If Checkr is a company that does background checks and they cant complete background checks i think its time to close down. i am loosing money. i also will be sending an email to ***************** showing the abundance of similar complaints and they exact same response to each one.

On October 12, a security incident led to the shutdown of online operations for most of ******' courts.       No one seems to be helping me I have informed Checkr have the wrong report and that I need another report again and no one is doing a report I sent my information a week ago, no one is helping me and running another report ifor Instacart.

      Checkr is taking forever to complete my criminal background check for Uber Eats! It has been two months now and the status is still pending and the date just keeps getting pushed back! I get zero **** messages from them that isnt scripted ********, and thats only when I have PROACTIVELY had to **** down their support email myself. As well as their phone line does not work.this has to be illegal somehow, as it is completely preventing me from working!!!!!

Due to court delays and closures throughout the country, we are still experiencing some delays in receiving records, and unfortunately, we will not have an update on your report until these records are provided to us directly by the courts. Please note, there continue to be delays as clerks and representatives make their way through extensive backlogs and other requests. 
      Please also note that based on the request of the company you have applied to work with, we *** search counties where you currently live or that *** be associated with your address history, and those counties *** or *** not keep electronic records. As a ************************** there are procedures we are required to follow in order to collect information and complete background checks. As a result, we are unable to expedite our search or take additional steps to speed up the process. 
      We assure you that we are doing everything we can to obtain the necessary records and complete your background check.       I am rejecting this response because: not only have they been dragging their feet on this (a background check in 2023 does not take MONTHS to complete, I dont care what they say), they are also illegally searching for records in a county that I have not lived at for 17 YEARS!

      We're experiencing a delay in completing your background check due to changes across ***************** that limit the public availability of court record information. A surprising number of courts in the ** still do not allow or limit public access to electronic records.  Some even require specially trained researchers to go to the county courthouse and physically obtain these records. These restrictions cause the background check process to take more time to complete, sometimes resulting in long delays. Checkr, as well as other background check providers, are being affected by these changes. 

      Please note: County clerks will prioritize individual/personal requests over background check companies, which leads to longer delays for our researchers. Its likely that the clerks will not be familiar with Checkr as we work with professional researchers or record providers to retrieve your information. For compliance reasons, we are unable to accept search results/records directly from you, the candidate.
