On April 6, 2021, the Sonoma District Attorney’s office filed criminal charges (case: SCR-745228-1) against Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E). The charges stem from PG&E’s alleged role in the cause of the 2019 Kincade Fire.
The complaint charges PG&E with unlawfully causing the fire that resulted in great bodily injury, unlawfully causing a fire that resulted in the burning of inhabited structures, and unlawfully causing a fire that resulted in the burning of forest land crimes and crimes against the environment.
On April 8, 2022, PGE entered into a stipulated final judgement. The judgment orders PG&E to fill at least 80 new wildfire safety related positions, to pay a total of $20,250,000 that includes payments to multiple non-profit organizations, to Santa Rosa Junior College and to pay civil penalties and to reimburse the District Attorney’s office. The judgement will resolve any pending criminal civil charges.
