In 2024, BloomTech (formerly Lambda School) notified me that the balance of my private student loan would be cleared due to a violation of our agreement. This was acknowledged internally and reflected as a balance reduction, including on my Nov 5, 2024 billing statement. My Slack and platform access were then removed. I had temporarily saved a screenshot showing this, but deleted it months later, assuming the issue was resolved. BloomTech now ignores my emails, and I have no way to recover this proof.Later, without any new contract, consent, or notice, the loan was reinstated on Nov 7. BloomTech claimed this was a communication error with the lender, but never provided any documentation or requested my agreement to resume the debt. The reinstated loan was then sent to collections without warning. I had already filed complaints (01/14/25, 03/21/25, 05/05/25). On Jul 28, 2025, I spoke with Ascent Funding. They acknowledged seeing the complaints but said they couldnt say how they contacted the school or what BloomTech said in response. They had no record of a resolution and still handed the loan off to collections.I have asked BloomTech for account access and documentation of the original balance removal. They have not responded. At one point, the balance showed as $921.90. It is now over $16,000. I was never given a new agreement or explanation. This appears deceptive and unlawful. Reinstating a private student loan without notice, documentation, or a contractand sending it to collectionsviolates basic consumer protections. I request this be investigated, that BloomTech provide all documentation, and that the loan be returned to the original reduced balance. Interest should not apply to a reinstated loan with no contract or communication, and ****** should be held accountable for their failure to act on complaints before transferring the debt.Business Response

I. Statement of Facts
Enrollment & Progress: *** ****** enrolled and completed 7 full sprints, partially engaged in Sprint 8. His formal withdrawal request was processed on April 6, 2023. As per his signed agreement, this equates to 52% vesting, with a financial obligation of $11,414.
Withdrawal & Inactivity Warnings: He received inactivity warnings on December 5, 2022 and March 2, 2023. Withdrawal was voluntary, processed after these notices.
Transparency: *********************** clearly outlined the withdrawal and vesting policy. *** ****** received his Enrollment Agreement at enrollment and again on April 6, 2023, along with tuition breakdown and deferment options.
II. Key Additional Evidence Chat Transcript (Chat ID 2354, April 6, 2023)
During a 30-minute live chat, *** ****** made explicit statements rejecting payment and threatening legal action:
I want to quit Now and tbh I dont want to pay a cent
If its an absurd amount, I will not be paying and you can see me in court
I am not withdrawing and paying over $10,000 for that c*** experience
I am absolutely not paying anywhere near that amount and I have some of the best lawyers in the ********************* statements show clear payment refusal, not merely a dispute about quality. While he cited dissatisfactionrotating staff, lack of grading, poor supporthe also refused to pay under his own terms and contract. The portal progress discrepancy (29% vs. 52%) was acknowledged, but vesting is contractually based on sprints started, not video completion.
No evidence shows BloomTech made any such representations. All termspricing, vesting, withdrawal policywere accurately disclosed, documented, and reaffirmed upon withdrawal.
*** ****** suffered a pecuniary loss only as a result of his contract and progressnot because of any misrepresentation.
BloomTech billed exactly per the Enrollment Agreementno higher. The $11,414 obligation is directly tied to the agreed 52% vesting. No additional fees, rate increases, or unauthorized charges were applied.
IV. Summary of Positions
Allegation BloomTech Response
Misrepresentation of tuition or service quality. No untrue or misleading statements were made. Terms were transparent and upheld.
Improper or deceptive billing Billing aligns exactly with the signed agreement. No increment without consent occurred.
Dispute only about quality *** ****** explicitly refused payment, labeled BloomTech a scam, and threatened legal action.
V. Conclusion & Requested Resolution
BloomTech acted in accordance with its contract and policies. *** ****** voluntarily withdrew after significant course progress and contractually incurred an obligation. The refusal to pay and threats of litigation are unambiguous and relevant to his dispute. There is no basis for claims under Wis. Stat. 100.18(1) or 100.195(2)(b).
Given the evidence:
The terms and billing matched the agreed contract.
No deceptive advertising occurred.
The complaint mischaracterizes *** ******* stated position.
We respectfully request that the Department close the case without further enforcement, as no statutory violations have occurred. We remain available to provide further documentation or clarifications as needed.Initial Complaint

I started the *************** program in March 2024. At first things where working but shortly into the program I reached out for options to help me understand because the program isn't very details in their learning materials. I tried so many different avenues to learn this program and I started to experience difficulty access the program and have not had access to the portal to do any of my class work for 3 months. They sent out emails stating they was working on it and that they will give extensions and now I've been told that they will not give extensions and it has been a complete nightmare since signing up for this class and I would like a refund they dont keep their promises and its been a complete mess.Initial Complaint

I'm absolutely disappointed with my experience at Bloom Institute of Technology (BloomTech). They promised a 100% job guarantee and guidance with a dedicated career coach, but halfway through the course, they fired my career coach, leaving me alone in the job search process. They also advertised special access to their employers to get a job, which never materialized. This is super unprofessional. Here are some of the violations I believe I was a victim of:1. BloomTech advertised on its website that 71 to ************************************* jobs within six months of graduation, but their non-public reports to investors showed placement rates closer to 50 percent.2. ****** tweeted that the school achieved a 100 percent job-placement rate in one of its cohorts, but later admitted in a private message that the sample size was just one student.3. They misrepresented their financial interests by selling loans to investors. BloomTechs marketing claimed their interests were aligned with students, with statements like We dont get paid until you do, and Because we invest in you, instead of the other way around, we only make money when you do. In reality, they were selling income share loans to investors and often got paid long before a student finished the program and started earning a salary.4. BloomTech violated a federal consumer protection known as the Holder Rule by failing to include a required provision making any owner of the loan subject to the legal claims and defenses that students could assert against BloomTech. As a result, students were deprived of rights they should have had when their income share loan was sold to an investor. This experience has been incredibly frustrating and disheartening.Initial Complaint

I made the mistake of attending BloomTech with the hopes of obtaining gainful employment. I was lured in with falsified statistics that I would be one of many students who gained employment and could improve my life. Instead, I am saddled with a loan that seems impossible to pay and am now unemployed. Upon learning about BloomTech, I was contacted by one of their enrollment associates and next thing I know I'm signing documents thinking I'm taking a step towards improving my future. When in reality I set myself so far back financially that I would not be able to make a spare dollar for another 5 years with a market rate job which I am having trouble obtaining. My issue lies with BloomTech. I have put in hours upon hours honing my craft and relentlessly applying to jobs, all of which have left me empty handed. The education while informative was an absolute joke. BloomTech made false promises in the hopes of luring desperate students to bleed them dry. I saw in the media that BloomTech is being forced to forgive *** holders due to BloomTech's predatory practices. This is a start, but there are students such as myself who have the same amount if not more in the form of a hefty loan. We are left high and dry. We were in the same predicament as those with the *** and are left with no relief.Initial Complaint

The Data Science program at Bloom Institute of Technology, which was financed through Ascent Funding. Initially, I was told my student loan would be around $15,000, but by the time I graduated, it had increased to $17,000. Given the quality of education and support I received, this amount feels unjustified. The program used outdated materials, and the homework assignments (called "sprints") were often broken or unclear. I had to rely mostly on personal study just to understand the vague lessons being taught. In most classes, I had to troubleshoot and correct the tests myself. If I couldnt fix the problem, the instructors either attempted to correct it or just passed me without ensuring I had learned the material. When I asked for help, I received minimal support, with responses ranging from "I don't know" to just being given the answer, which didnt help me learn. I was frequently directed to use ChatGPT instead of receiving proper guidance. For a program that claimed to prepare me for a career in data science, this support was inadequate. After graduation, I was told Bloom would help me find a job, and that my certification alone would make me career-ready. However, after completing the program, I was informed that to be eligible for the Tuition Refund Guarantee (***), I had to apply to 10 jobs, send 10 cold emails, make 5 ****** contributions, and follow up with 10 emails every week. As a part-time single father with a full-time job, these requirements are difficult to meet. Despite my efforts, two months have passed with no job offers or interest from employers. The career support I was promised has been minimal, with job postings either outside my field or beyond my qualifications.I feel misled by Bloom Institute regarding the quality of education, career support, and the financial burden. I seek a resolution, either through the *** or another means, as the program did not deliver on its promises.Sincerely, **** *******Initial Complaint

I was a student who started in late 2022 and graduated in December of 2023.Bloomtech made their courses attractive by advertising a false placement rate, assistance in the job **** (including "Partner" opportunities), marketable skills, and a "risk free" payment option. 10 months later, I am currently 40k in debt with no job. seems those skills weren't so marketable.Since I graduated, I believe there has been a total of FOUR partner opportunities, despite applying to all of them, I did not receive an interview for any of them. My attempts to reach out for assistance with the job **** are met with advice to just "keep trying".From the start I was assigned a "career coach" to assist with the job ****. Throughout my education, this coach was changed twice, once without my knowledge, before bloomtech laid off all coaches but one completely. "Classes" went okay, but trying to get help outside of classes was almost as useless as the career help. These requests for help were limited, and not of high quality. Usually when I got into a meeting I was met with an LA who didn't seem to know much more than me. Once, the person I had a meeting with didn't even show up, and I had to get help to reschedule. I did not request assistance often because of how poor the quality of help was so early in the education.Lastly, there was supposed to be an accurate work simulation at the end of the course. I expected to work with a team to complete a project I could put on my resume. Instead, it was a typical ****** assignment with no team. I needed help with the 2nd part of the assignment, and the LA just gave me the answers. I cant say that this project prepared me for the workforce, nor am I proud to have it on my ********* here I am, 40k in debt, with no job 10 months later. Despite previous class actions, there is no way out for me. I feel cheated, scammed, I don't believe bloomtech held up their end of the bargain, and I don't believe I should have to pay.Initial Complaint

I am filing this complaint regarding the schooling program I enrolled in, during which I took out an Ascent loan through the school. The program guaranteed job assistance upon completion, with the understanding that I would repay a loan totaling approximately $35,000. Regardless of employment status, I would still be responsible for the loan repayment.During the program, the school began letting go of employees, significantly reducing the job assistance that had been promised. While the program initially assured personalized support for job placement, this diminished to simply receiving job recommendations, with no actual assistance in the job search process. Despite the program's promotion of high hiring rates for graduates, these claims were misleading at the time of my enrollment. Many students, including myself, struggled to secure employment, and the school's advertised success rates no longer aligned with reality.Additionally, the school lowered enrollment costs after I joined, while students like me, who enrolled earlier, were left paying significantly more in loan debt for a program that did not deliver on its promises. After four months, I still have not secured the job I was assured, one that was advertised to pay over $50,000 annually. Attempts to contact staff regarding these concerns have been met with silence, and there has been no effort to address or rectify the situation.I find it unjust that I am now facing a $35,000 loan repayment for a program that failed to deliver the promised job placement and did not update its student success statistics to reflect the current outcomes. Had the school's information been accurate, I, along with many others, would not have enrolled.I respectfully request a resolution to this matter, including the possibility of reevaluating the loan or offering further job placement assistance.Initial Complaint

I attended BloomTech (formerly Lambda School) with high hopes, attracted by their promise of guaranteed job placement after graduation and the assurance that I wouldn't have to repay my loan until I secured a job. The program also promised unlimited access to a learner's assistant and a career coach to guide me through the competitive job market.I decided to sign on with Bloomtech. I took out a deferred loan, that I now owe $26k for. Ascent Funding/Launch Servicing handles it. before I graduated, my career coach was fired without notice, and I wasnt assigned a new one. This left me without any guidance or support in navigating a difficult field. When I reached out for help, even to those who were fired, there was no response, and the all Slack channels were dead silent.Towards the end of the program, what was supposed to be a capstone group project simulating a real-world work environment turned out to be a solo project that I completed in one day, with little feedback. After graduating, I had to reach out to someone to give me my official certificate because I already waited a week for it. When it came time to begin the job search, I had alot of questions but no one to turn to for help. Despite BloomTech's confidence in my ability to secure a job, I couldn't even land an interview. The support structure that had been advertised felt like a complete waste of money.Despite being told I wouldnt have to start repaying my loan until I found a job, the reality was different. After several months of job hunting without success, I had no choice but to start repaying my loanwith little income to support it.Its been a year since I graduated, and Im still searching for the opportunities I was promised. Now looking at Bloomtech's website, the Data Science program no longer exists (I have the certificate to prove it did), along with other courses that used to be offered. On top of that, there's no email or form to fill out to contact anyone about the lawsuit.Business Response

Ms. ****** graduated on 07/13/2023 and other than questions about her loan, we did not receive any requests from her about **************** BloomTech sent at least four (4) separate emails offering career support and explanation of learner obligations in career searching, we did not receive a reply for any of these emails. Although BloomTech prides itself on offering career support services, it is up to the learner to utilize them. Graduates have access to their Certificate of Completion on their portal. However, per Ms. ******* request, a copy was emailed to her in July of 2023.
Learners who attend BloomTech and have a loan, use an outside lender and the terms of their contract are signed with the lender. Ascent does usually provide learners with a six-month deferment period post-graduation.
If Ms. ****** is still searching for employment, she can reach out to ********************************** and we would be happy to provide additional services to help her in her job search.Initial Complaint

I was a student at BloomTech. When I enrolled, I was promised access to curriculum and career placement opportunities and during my time there the institution made conscious changes that diminished and/or entirely removed those opportunities. I took out a loan and paid more than I would have for competitor services, due to these promises. BloomTech has made zero attempt to balance their internal decisions against the price I paid, in a way that seems highly predatory.Business Response

BloomTech denies all allegations set forth in this complaint. Mr. ******* is a graduate from BloomTechs ************************** course. He received a certificate and fully utilized our career support services to his success. Mr. ******* was considered qualified placed meaning he received an offer in a related role making $50,000+ per year. He received an offer of employment as a Full-time Junior Developer and received an offer well above the $50,000 less than three months after graduating. In addition, BloomTech hired Mr. ******* as a part-time Learning Assistant in addition to his full-time job. Mr. ******* also still has access to our *************** and utilizes them. We believe this complaint was solicited by two other students who are disgruntled, and Mr. ******* put this complaint in to help strengthen their complaints.
As far as competitors prices, we cannot speak to what other, possibly comparable schools, charge for their services or if their services are equivalent to that of BloomTech.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:Though I was extraordinarily lucky and received a job offer quickly out of school, it was in no way due to the career services BloomTech referenced herein. I received that offer through an immediate family connection. I did not and do not in any way currently utilize BloomTechs so-called career services. In fact, when I was still enrolled at what was essentially the completion of my course, months ahead of the average time-to-completion, and expressed a desire to Ash Tilawat and **** ***** to remain enrolled in order to further my learning through BloomTechs live events to put myself in a better position to qualify for jobs, I was told I could remain enrolled and attend these events. Shortly thereafter, I was suddenly and secretly graduated from the program, losing access to the live events that would have further bolstered my qualifications.
BloomTech did offer me a position, but youll notice they conveniently left out the fact that it paid a shameful hourly rate of $15/hr, well below the threshold of $50,000/yr they refer to in regards to my loan terms. Further, in my time at BloomTech, on one occassion, after working overtime with a learner, I was asked to modify my hours so that it appeared that I only worked 40 hours instead of accruing overtime. The request was accompanied by a formal reprimand and not presented as a choice as much as an expectation. I left this position after suggestions and complaints that I logged internally in an effort to work with BloomTech to improve the program went unaddressed. The exact words I gave when asked for the reason for my notice by **** ***** were I feel like Im working against BloomTech to help learners instead of with them.
Regarding the claim that this complaint was solicited by 2 other students, this is absolute nonsense. I do know and have a peer-to-peer relationship with the students they refer to, as they have made their complaint quite public. However, I expressed disappointment with the educational and career resources explicitly and internally all through my time as a student and employee. This began with feedback I provided ****** ***** only a couple of months into the program about the low-quality academic support I was receiving. In the latter-middle of my time as a student, my career coach (and all others) was fired without any notice or explanation on how I should proceed whatsoever.
I, unlike the students they refer to and many others, chose not to file an anonymous complaint with ****************** Protection or make my experience with BloomTech known publicly. This is because I have personal relationships with people I care about who are both attending and working for the school and I have no interest in damaging BloomTech and these people in the process. I attached my name to this complaint out of respect for their organization and in an attempt to reach a fair compromise that preserves the interests of both sides as much as possible. I have very little interest in having accusations about my integrity levied in this negotiation, as all I have ever done for BloomTech and their learners is freely give a tremendous amount of my valuable time.
All I ask is that the terms of my tuition be adjusted to more fairly reflect the experience provided relative to the experience promised. If they cannot see the reason in that, then I can easily pursue more public and litigious means by which to reach a fair agreement.
Sincerely,
*** *******
