This company is a scam. They claim to be a loan company and were very intrusive about getting my bank account information without ever having the intention of delivering the loan that they promised.

I received two letters on February 6th (one dated January 28th, one dated January 29th) in regards to me submitting loans - at no time did I do this, at no time did I speak to LightStream, at no time did I contact LightStream.I have tried repeatedly to contact them, I can't find a phone number, I've called a sister company that transferred me to LightStream (and gave me their phone number prior to transferring) and it sounded like a fax number on repeated attempts.I'm not sure if this is a scam, if I have had my identity stolen, or something else

The company advertises credit card/debit consolidation loan APRs that it does not offer. When confronted, they parrot that the discrepancy is due to credit profiles & loan types. However, my statement accounts for these areas. They have a public-facing rate range that is lower than the rate chart that is only visible after approval when the applicate seeks to make changes to their offer. Both instances (public-facing & post-approval) reflect the exact same footnotes which state that the rates shown are based on excellent credit, reflect an autopay discount & are for the same loan purpose. Even the underwriter I spoke to was able to walk through both scenarios to verify my claims. This practice is unlawful & violates § 1026.24 Advertising. (c) Advertisement of rate of finance charge.
A tv commercial aired around 12/27/22 advertising rates starting at 6.04%. Their website shows 7.89% & up. The rate chart that’s only visible post-approval (but not applicant specific) shows 11.99% as the lowest rate. All instances supposedly based upon excellent credit, autopay discount, & the same loan purpose.
Using their calculator, I was quoted a 9.74% fixed APR for a 60-month $14K credit card/debit consolidation loan (subject to excellent credit - which I have with a 788 score - & autopay discount). On 1/30/23, I applied for $13,995 & was subsequently approved for 12.74%. The approval email had a hyperlink to “Complete Your Loan.” This landed on a sign-in page followed by options to accept, reject or request changes. The webpage to “Request New Loan Terms”, included a hyperlink to “View Rates / Terms.” Unlike their website “rates/terms” links which route back to the calculator, this one took me to an actual rate chart that had the same footnotes as the calculator. However this rate chart’s lowest rate was 11.99% regardless of term length. Despite alerting them to this & sending pictures & details info, they still have false rates advertised.

The advertised interest rates on our website is a range. Interest rates are determined based upon the loan purpose, loan amount, loan term, and the applicants credit profile. As LightStream loans are all unsecured, our lending guidelines are more stringent than other lenders.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 02/13/2023

This response doesn’t account for the different rate range that’s seen after approval. As seen in these attachments, the rate range seen post-approval does not reflect the low rates advertised to the public.

    Business Response

    Date: 02/14/2023

The lowest interest rate listed on our website is not guaranteed to be offered. It is a guideline of what interest rate could be offered if the application is approved for an applicant with excellent credit.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 02/17/2023

Am I not communicating clearly? You don’t seem to be addressing the point. Let me try to reword it. Why does the Rate/Term chart show 11.99% as the lowest possible rate while the calculator shows 7.99% as the lowest possible rate? Same loan purpose, same amount, same premises in all aspects. Yet general higher rate ranges are shown after application approval.

You dangle a low rate on the calculator, a person with exceptional credit does their due diligence to research the legitimacy of your company & scours your website to ensure all relevant footnotes & disclaimers are accounted for in their decision making process. The applicant applies after careful consideration to the different factors. The applicant knows their creditworthiness isn’t reflected in the subsequent offer they’ve been approved for. Even LightStream’s limited credit review records label this applicant as having excellent credit. The applicant calls & talks to an underwriter who walks through these two same-loan scenarios that result in different rate ranges. The underwriter validates the applicants claims after getting the same results. Yet here we are going in circles while you continue to advertise these misleading - at best - rates on your website.

Again, these are the exact same loan purposes, same amounts and both are quoted based on excelled credit profiles. I repeat both the rate range that starts at 7.99% & the rate range that starts at 11.99% are for the same loan purpose, same amount, same excellent credit profile, same auto discount…you name it, it’s all the same. The only difference is that you have a chart that shows higher rate ranges & only show this chart after someone applies & is approved.

I was trying to take out a loan from Light Stream Funding or Lending to pay my bills for the month and the company deposited fraudulent mobile checks into my account. I was told to take out money from a ATM machine and loan target gift cards for Light Stream to take the money and give me the loan amount of $5,000. My bank acounts are on hold or locked until a complaint is made.
