I recently discovered that 7 Cups, an online therapy and support platform, has been posting information about therapists without their consent, seemingly pulling data directly from the Psychology Today directory. This includes therapists names, credentials, and sometimes outdated or incorrect contact details, creating confusion for potential clients and misrepresenting professionals without their permission. Many therapists have reported that they never signed up for 7 Cups, yet their profiles appear on the site as if they are affiliated with the platform. Some have also struggled to get their unauthorized profiles removed, as 7 Cups does not make the process clear or responsive. This practice is misleading to both mental health professionals and individuals seeking therapy, as it falsely implies an association with 7 Cups. It is unethical and potentially violates privacy rights. I am requesting that 7 Cups immediately stop this unauthorized use of Psychology Todays directory information, remove all unapproved therapist listings, and implement a clear and efficient removal process for affected professionals. This is my information that 7Cups stole from other sources. I want it taken down immediately. **********************************************************************************************

      Hi there,

Thank you for contacting 7 Cups. 7 Cups is the worlds largest mental health community. We have over ******* trained volunteer listeners across 189 countries that provide support in 140 languages. We have reached over 73 million people. Often, we need to make referrals to licensed clinicians, shelters, and food pantries. That is why we built our provider directory and local support service. We are now starting to make referrals to local clinicians.

The goal of the local support systems (************************) is to connect people online to services offline so they can get better help. We believe therapists are an important part of local support systems.

I understand that you may have reasons for wanting to be removed, but I wanted to share some additional context that you might find helpful. 7 Cups sends out thousands of free referrals to therapists every month. If someone were to complete the contact form on your profile, we would forward their information to you for follow-up. This would essentially be a free referral for you. We operate similarly with food pantries and shelters, as our goal is to connect people with local resources in their community.

We are providing therapists the option of a free premium month of being listed on 7 Cups to gain additional referrals. We are also providing this premium service to therapists free of charge if they cannot afford it as we think it is important for therapists to get referrals and build their practice. We want to feature as many therapists we can as part of the local support system.

We have deleted your listing and please let us know if you have any questions.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor writing to inform you that a company, 7 Cups, is unfairly restricting my practice. They have listed my professional information on their website without my permission and refer anyone who checks my name to their own list of clinicians. I do not wish to work with 7 Cups, nor even to have my name listed on what they call a registry. The bulk of people on this registry are doing listening, which is not psychotherapy and does not require a license. Having my name on this registry blurs the line between what might be considered coaching/peer support and psychotherapy. This is a restriction of trade that should be stopped immediately. These marketing tactics add to the confusion of unreliable information circulating online about mental healthcare. As we know, many people seeking care are especially vulnerable and need effective psychotherapy.

We found one of our providers, ****** Ann ********** listed on the 7 cups website as a provider with them. She has not signed up for this. I, ***** ********** registered on their website as a potential customer and sought to use ****** on 4/16/25 for services. 7 Cups has added our business information without our permission. They are falsely stating individuals seeking our services can book through their website. We are not affiliated with this organization, have never been approached by or spoken with anyone within this organization. I have asked that our information be removed from their website. This is a complaint against the 7 Cups of Tea Company, also known as 7 Cups, listed at *****************************************************. I am a private mental health practitioner who was dismayed to learn that 7 Cups has culled my practice information presumably from my listing on the Psychology Today website, a site I subscribe to and posted it on its own website without my knowledge. This allows 7 Cups to intercede between myself and any of my potential clients who go to their website and covertly re-route those clients away from me and directly to practitioners who are affiliated with their company. For this reason, on Thursday, 3/27/25, I messaged 7 Cups via webmail at ***********************************************************************, requesting that they delete my information from their website and advise me when that had been done. On 4/1/25, they responded with a "recruitment" message promoting their company and noting they had not deleted my information, but saying if I contacted them again with the same request they would honor it within 48 hours. That same day I sent them an email reiterating my request. On 4/2/25, they stalled on the timeline by writing back, We want to be sure we are removing the correct page. Can you send us a link to your listing? We'll have it removed ASAP (correspondence attached). I did not respond to that message. Im sure I dont need to send them a link to my listing since they already have it and they, in fact, created it. If they were able to find my information and list it on their site without my involvement, Im sure they dont need my involvement to find and delete it now; my name and email address are provided in my ********* of today (4/23/25) my information has still not been removed from the 7 Cups website, and I am not inclined to parlay with them through additional communication. Please have them remove my information from their site immediately. (Sent 4/23/25 at 2:41pm EDT.)

I dont believe what you are saying is true about how you forward referrals to the therapist, who never signed up for this service. I have heard about several therapists who have been in the same situation and not gotten contacted by 7 cups. What you are doing is fraud, we are not signing up for this, and you are stealing are profiles and listing them fraudulently on your site. Nowhere on the site says anything about your practices being done in this manner.

We are also providing this premium service to therapists free of charge if they cannot afford it as we think it is important for therapists to get referrals and build their practice. We want to feature as many therapists we can as part of the local support system.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me.  I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved for myself. However, their business practices are extremely questionable and should be shut down.

      Regards,

      ******* ****

I recently found that this business has copied my listing from another servicing website onto their directory without my permission. Theres a contact button at the top of this page that says send message and its very misleading thinking youre going to message me, but in reality this message will go. I have no idea where. I have requested that they remove my listing from their directory as it was unauthorized and I do not need their services. They have done this with many other providers as well.

We will delete your listing and have tried to search for your listing but unable to locate it, please send the *** to our support email address. Please let us know if you have any questions.

      Best regards,
