On Friday, 5/1625, I used CheckPeople.com in an attempt to locate a missing family member. The site claimed it had found a wealth of information about the person I was searching forpromising access to phone numbers, addresses, social media, and more. However, it required a $4.99 payment to unlock this full report via a 3-day trial. It then prompted me to pay an additional $6.95 for a downloadable PDF version of the report.After purchasing, I discovered that the report contained no meaningful or exclusive informationjust vague, publicly accessible data that can be found through a free ****** search. No contact information, recent addresses, or helpful leads were included despite the sites claims.Immediately after realizing the service was not what was advertised, I attempted to cancel the subscription to avoid further charges. However, CheckPeople.com does not allow cancellations online. They require customers to call their phone line, which is closed on weekends, making it impossible to cancel before the 3-day trial ends. Emails are also not monitored during the weekend. As a result, I was charged $29.16 on Monday morning for a full membership I did not want and was unable to cancel in time.I called on Monday as soon as their customer service reopened. The representative admitted that billing issues and cancellations cannot be processed over the weekend and said nothing could be done other than cancel my subscription so I dont get billed moving forward.Business Response

I went on to the website and saw that there is a trial membership for just a $1, it stated that if I sign up today and cancel within 5 days that Id only only be charged $1, if I dont cancel within 5 days, then Id be charged the full amount. I signed up and received my report but then I looked at my bank statement and saw that I was actually charged the full amount, it had only been a few hours, not even 5 days. I want a full refund. I attempted to cancel subscription and was told by representatives that my service would be cancelled and monthly payments would stop on or about March 2025. I was charged today April 28th for another month of service. I ask the representative to verify that i have not logged into Checkpeople.com since January of 2025. I requested a reimbursement for payments made on April 28, 2025. I was denied and told that my service will continue for another month. Claimed $1 payment for a 5 day trial prior to a $35 charge unless the membership was canceled within the 5 day trial period. However, when pressing submit, it charged my account for the entire $35. There is no $1 transaction on my statement. This $1 payment for a 5 day trial is a false claim to confuse consumers, which goes against consumer law and the ************************, of which I will be reporting to next. They overdrew my account, caused an overdraft fee, and my remaining funds prior to the charge to be inaccessible. I have emailed them three different times now since it occurred and they have been opened for quite some time now with no response. I am leaving this report prior to calling their customer service as I feel they have had plenty of opportunity to respond appropriately and accordingly. They basically stole money from me while Im having to wait to get my money back from them and likely will be out some still. They have absolutely no information on their site whatsoever when compared to comparable businesses like truthfinder and Spokeo, So they need to be shut down. Company claims to provide information on people to be used for possible background checks. The information they are selling is already free on the internet. It is also very outdated. October 20, 2024 I signed up for a 5 day trial for $1. They charged me $29 without ny knowledge. I emailed customer support with no luck.
