1 starI expected a great experience but got the opposite. One of our ATVs broke down just 10–15 minutes into the ride. We waited out in the dunes for nearly an hour before help arrived. After a quick jump-start, it died again, and we had to wait another 30–40 minutes to be brought back for a replacement.
We assumed we’d still get our full 2-hour tour, but were only given 30 minutes. We explained the situation, but the staff offered no compensation and said no refunds. We were given an email and phone number to follow up, but after two weeks, multiple calls, and one vague email reply, there’s still no response.
We paid $700 for a 30-minute experience. As a business owner myself, I’m shocked by the lack of accountability and customer service.Review fromChristi P

1 starScammers! Do not rent! They pull the old,"you broke our atv you owe us 6k but we'll settle for $1500". Look at the other reviews! They look at you and see if you have money and then try to scam you. Wear and tear is covered by their insurance, if you've been scammed reach out to me, trying to get enough people for lawsuit. Take pictures of equipment before you ride.Review fromJaeda A

1 starI was at the Pismo/Oceano location this past weekend and had a very disappointing experience. I had booked a Polaris RZR 2-seater online back in May for what was meant to be a memorable first-time adventure with a group of 11. Unfortunately, it turned out to be quite the opposite—for everyone involved.
Given how early I booked, I expected the reservation to be properly scheduled and the vehicle to be in working condition. I followed all instructions provided: I arrived an hour early for our 12 PM time slot, watched the safety video, and even pre-ordered recommended gear like goggles in anticipation of the experience.
When we arrived at the riding area, there was no Polaris UTV in sight. Staff seemed confused and eventually told me the vehicle was still in the shop but would arrive in 15 minutes. Twenty minutes passed, and with the rest of my group already waiting, I was told we’d be given extra time once the Polaris arrived.
After 30 minutes of waiting, I was offered the option to ride ATVs in the meantime. I had recently recovered from a broken foot and was reluctant due to the increased risk of injury, but I agreed since there were no alternatives. We rode for 20 minutes, returned, and the Polaris had finally arrived.
We got in and were initially instructed to drive in high gear, which didn’t work. Then we were told to use low gear, but the vehicle wouldn’t go faster than 5 mph. After attempting to drive, the employee informed us it was in “limp mode” and still broken. He went on to say that Sunbuggy is known for renting out broken vehicles and overbooking reservations. That statement alone was incredibly concerning and disappointing to hear.
At that point, more than an hour and a half had passed. I had no functioning vehicle to use and ultimately decided to end the experience.Review fromDavid P

1 starOn January 19th -The units were rusty and poorly maintained, as expected. You will have problems.
We waited 40 minutes for a help response. The mechanic came out and blamed us for “not knowing” how to use the equipment. He got it running… barely. Ten minutes later we noticed fuel dripping from the bottom of the engine, and so we called back. I attempted to reconnect the fuel line but it disintegrated in my fingers and the engine burnt my hand.
It was getting late and cold and we already waited for over 30 minutes. I called the emergency number and explained that we needed to return the other three units and that we would leave this one in a visible location.
I gave the minor a ride back on my unit and we slowly made our way back before the time cut off. The mechanic chastised us excessively about how unsafe it was to bring him back like that. I asked if we should have left him out there on the dunes and he said that would have been better for us to do. I disagree.
After turning in our helmets they complained that they couldn’t find the unit and that it “may have been stolen”. I drove back to the ATV return point and found a very irritated mechanic. After a few moments they returned with the unit and it had sand on the handle bar. The plastic guard was twisted as well (thank God that we took video of the equipment before leaving). They accused us of rolling the unit… then he accused us of also rolling one of the 450’s. This never happened.
“Maybe it happened when you weren’t looking” this gang of people kept saying. I insisted that it never happened and that we stayed together the whole time. They tried to “gas light” me and acted as a gang of bullies. I was so angry that I had to simply leave , and I had to wait to cool down even to write this review.
These people are bullies, liars, and cheats. They also kept my $300 deposit. Their equipment is UNSAFE. Sun Buggies is absolutely NOT a company that you want to rent from.Review fromLeisel M

1 starVery shady business. I would leave ZERO stars if I could. My family booked with SunBuggy at Pismo. We showed up at the correct time only to hear that the Park Wardon had closed the park therefore NO ride... That was 8 months ago and SunBuggy REFUSES to give a refund! I live in a different country and cannot use a "coupon"... There is a serious problem with a refusal to refund a service that was NOT provided!Review fromAlyona K

1 starMy family and I are extremely disappointed with SUNBUGGY, Pismo Beach, CA for the terrible experience we had at Pismo Dunes on Sunday Sep 3.
Although most of the staff, including Brianna & Robin, were courteous & helpful in getting us setup with paperwork, things went downhill quickly after we received the quads we had rented. Our family rented 4 quads: 1 each for our 3 children while my wife and I shared a double quad. We rented for one hour each. Our first serious issue we had was when the young gentleman got each of our 3 kids set up with their quads; rather than getting my wife & I a quad to begin the excursion with our kids; instead he began helping other families BEFORE helping us. It took another 10 minutes after our kids got their quads before we got ours and were able to begin to try to catch up to them. By that time they had followed everyone else into the dunes while we were still waiting for our ATV's. When my wife & I entered the gates to the dunes, we quickly found one of our daughters with a stalled engine and a flat tire. This was roughly 200 yards from the main entrance and happened roughly 5 minutes after her start time of 3:05pm.. After realizing the quad wouldn't start, my wife called the Recovery Team on the phone # we were given at the beginning of our trour. She scanned the QR code and sent the notice at 3:26pm with the exact location of our stalled quad.. After we called the phone # for assistance and they told us it would be roughly 10-15min before someone could be there. Since our 10 year old son had gone ahead at the start and not waited for us, I elected to take the quad, and with my daughter search for my son while my wife stayed with my other daughter.and the broken quad. After searching unsuccessfully for 30 minutes for my son, my quad broke down as well and I was stranded. I scanned the code at 3:48pm and waited for assistance, which never came. There is a lot more to the story but there is no more place to write it in..Review fromLaisa S

1 starSo on 4/22, I went with 4 other people to that business for fun. There were odds things to have paid attention but were dismissed. First, we waited for almost an hour to get signed in. The second odd thing that happened, we didn’t get goggles. Because they said we don’t get any and I saw later that we should have had goggles with our package. Once we got the beach site, everything was fine until they said they didnt have available the 450’s if we wanted, that if we wanted we can get a “wolverine”. He said he wasn’t trying to down grade but they didn’t have any of the 450s and that the wolverine is more expensive. We said no and waited until the 450s were available. Once we came back, an incident happened. We did a tip over on the 2 seater 400cc due to not seeing well and not having goggles. I don’t understand the charge for a tip over of an RZR if it was on an ATV. The staff checked if we were ok. Once I got back to the person to get back to the site, he said we would have to pay for the tip over which was 500 dollars. After much debate, we left afterwards disappointed of the experience. Now I see a charge of 500 on my card. They didn’t give us the contract back to get my reservation number so I don’t have that to provide but gave me this email to tell about the incident by Paden in customer service number thru text and said they would call but didn’t. Still by today may 3 they were saying they are waiting for an invoice for the damages for the bike. There so much to this story. I don’t have enough characters to finish. I saw it was pass 800!!!! BBB please help!!!Review fromDavid P

1 starThis company does not care about customer safety or safety protocols and does not deserve to serve the public. I have a very similar story from a different location of theirs. They initially brought a 4 seeter Maverick to the parking lot of the dunes, went through all the safety procedures and driving instructions, and was ready to release us to the dunes, when my son noticed his seat belt wasn't even connected to the frame of the vehicle!!! Complete violation of the most basic safety checks, procedures and protocols. They couldn't fix it onsite, so they brought us a replacement.
Not knowing at the time, the second vehicle had a serious front end alignment issue (probably the start of a bent/broken tie rod - I have pictures to prove this that their rep took with our iPhone. We didn't notice, as we trusted them to bring out a well maintained, safe vehicle, and drove out to the dunes. I drove down a dune at a slow to moderate speed of 10 – 15 mph, to the point of where the downward sloping dune trough’s out and then transcends to an upwardly sloping dune, where the dune buggy abruptly “dug” into the dune. When I say “abruptly”, I mean it was almost like hitting a brick wall. This is where the wheels that (unknowingly to us at the time) were already out of alignment in opposing directions, are split further apart in opposing directions by the force of the soft sand pushing against them and splitting them apart further, bending an already pre-existing bent tie rode even further, to the point of practically decapacitating the vehicle. Had the wheels been in proper alignment, this would have been no problem for the vehicle to easily absorb the incline and navigate up the dune.
They took my $1,400+ rental fee, $3,000 deposit, and on top of that they sent a debt collector after me to try to collect another $1800 for damages. BTW, a broken tie rod costs $250+ labor!! Do NOT rent from this company. ClassAction Law suit coming. You want to join?
