I was recently rooting around the internet in hope to find a clothing boxing service that would provide me with clothing on my busy schedule, for I am unable to find the time to shop at retail stores. I came across Menlo, where their styling on the front page and everywhere else on social media (YouTube, Facebook ADs, etc,) was appealing to the type of clothing I would wear. I decided I would give them a chance and signed up to be a member. That was the first mistake...
I began in May, where it took just over a full month to receive my first box. It was already halfway through July, I was just receiving a box for the prior month and already payed for another month of service. I wrote an email to support just to forewarn them about the delay on my package. I then turned to my clothing box and began to assess what they had sent. Everything that was in the box had nothing to do with the style choice that I had made while creating my membership profile. My styling choice was casual. They sent nothing that resembled a "casual" style in my box, which consisted of blue jeans (that were too big for my size), a pair of slacks, (which were too long), a rough blue button up (that was unappealing to any eye), and a gray button up (that actually wasn't too bad).
Now before I continue, I understand that Menlo is the type of service that is, you pay for the unknown and you have to deal with it. Completely understood. However, when you sign up for a membership, their styling chart has no clear indication of what type of style you're really getting. The stylings are as follows: Mixed, Casual, Classic, Forward. There is no description on what these stylings even mean, so all your decision making is based off of one image from each style (which basically all look the same besides some minor changes.) You get a closet that you have to opportunity to write reviews on the products you've received. However, I fail to see how they use this information to make updates to the clothing that you'll receive the following month, because everything was sent for the month of July (which was a month late again), was exactly what I didn't want and was written out in my review of last month's clothing.
At this point, I was losing interest in the clothing they were sending me. The styling was incredibly bland. Solid colors, nothing was fitting correctly, even though they have a sizing chart and yes, my sizings on the chart are correct. They state that the clothing you receive are worth more than the $60 you pay for the subscription service, which I fail to believe how a "Mint Green" Polo and a Black pair of slacks equate to more than $60, where as places like Target and Old Navy offer the same products for much less. By this time, I gave Menlo three months to impress me and it just wasn't working out. So I reached out to their customer service to cancel my membership, which thankfully you can do at anytime. However, if you try to call their customer service help line, you'll receive a vague automated reply, stating that their lines are busy and you should call back later. I've repeated this process for a full week now and have been unsuccessful in getting in touch with their live support. So I resorted to sending an e-mail which hasn't been successful either.
To sum this is all up, the lack of information that is given when signing up for Menlo is incredibly misleading. They market their products as seasonal items you'll be receiving, when they end up sending pants and long sleeves for their "summer time" line of products. I feel as if the employees over at Menlo hold their hands over their eyes, point in a general direction, and throw that in a box to ship to you. If you're asking me if the membership is worth $60, the answer is no. Simply because, I still have yet to hear a response from Customer Service to cancel my subscription.
