On 5/1/2021 I took my **** ****** pick up truck to AAMCO to have the transmission replaced. AAMCO couldn't find a transmission locally so I found a used one, paid for it and had it shipped to AAMCO. The 1st week of June, the transmission arrived at AAMCO. I called & spoke to ***** to get a repair cost. ***** quoted me $800. I asked ***** to make sure everything was good on the used ****** and to please be sure they put new seals in when they put the new ****** in & she said of course. My girlfriend called ***** later that day to see how it was going and to confirm that they put new seals in & add the cost to the ************ said she had forgot that I asked her to put new seals in so my girlfriend asked her to go tell the mechanic, ***** said she would write it on the work order for the mechanic. On 6/15 I get a call from AAMCO telling me my truck was done. I get to ****************************** isn't there so I spoke to someone else, I paid $803.11. The mechanic brought my truck around & told me that if it started leaking to bring it back up there, but he didn't say why it might leak. A week later it started leaking ALOT so I called AAMCO & was told to bring it in the following week, which I did but was told that they didn't have time to check it & asked me to come back in a few days, which I did & was told they were too busy & told to bring it back the next Monday. This went on for almost 2 months. My girlfriend called to ask ***** when they could check my truck & to confirm they put new seals in when they put the transmission in as we both requested, ***** informed my girlfriend that we never told her that & that it was against the law to put new seals in with a used transmission & if AAMCO was to put the seals in I would have to pay another $700. I called other shops & was told replacing the seals was standard. I went to ****************************** said they wont work on my truck & told me to leave. I should not have to pay to have the seals done when AAMCO should have done it.Business response

Customer did bring his truck after we closed and dropped the keys off and did not see the signs that read no over night parking due to parking lot being re-done and it was towed, this was explained to customers girlfriend when she called and after she brought the truck back from impound we showed her the signs that were posted in multiple spots, the used transmission the customer had us put in was a warranty replacment from an other shop, it was explained to customer that we are not responsible for the condition or warranty of the used transmission as we did not order it and he was only charged for the labor of removing the old trans and installing the transmission that he supplied, when the customers girlfriend called us later to inform us that the truck was leaking we informed her that we would take a look but if there is an issue with the supplied transmission they would have to contact the supplier, this is when the customers girlfriend got very rude and started yelling at us that we were going to fix the truck for free, girlfriend was informed that we would not be fixing someone else's transmission Aamco does not reseal used units before install because this would mean we would have to disassemble the entire unit and that would void any warranty from the supplier. Customer's issue is with the supplier of the used unit (his contact not Aamco's) customer came in after and we explained that to him again and also told him that his girlfriend was not allowed to call and harass the shop going forward and was instructed to call the supplier of the transmissionCustomer response

I asked ***** at AAMCO to make sure they replaced the seals on the transmission BEFORE they installed it. ***** said she would write it on the work order for the mechanic. I emphasised this because it was a used transmission and there was no warranty and i did not want to have any issues with leaks, she agreed. When the transmission started leaking i called ***** at which time she informed me it was "against the law" to replace the seals on a used transmission. I then called 3 other transmission shops, one of them was another AAMCO & asked them if they put a used transmission in a vehicle that is supplied by the customer do they replace the seals if the customer specifically requests them to do so & do they have to disassemble the transmission in order to replace the seals before they install it. All 3 said the customer doesnt have to request the seals be replaced because it is standard procedure to replace the seals prior to installing a used transmission. When i talked to the other AAMCO i informed the manager what the AAMCO in Glendale had done to my truck & the manager asked me which AAMCO and when i told him he laughed and said that i am not the only 1 they have done that to. So its not the 1st time that the corporate office for AAMCO has had complaints about the AAMCO on **** road. I just want my seals put on my transmission so it will stop leaking i paid alot of money to AAMCO and i requested them to replace the seals prior to installing it. ***** agreed and then told me when it started leaking that they dont replace the seals its against the law! But she was willing to charge me another $700 to drop my ****** & replace the seals. My girlfriend did get upset when ***** said that & told ***** "why would he pay you to do something that should have been done when they installed it especially since i called her & told her i wanted them to be replaced." Then my girlfriend asked ***** if she kept the old ****** fluid in it also. ***** said of course not then she hung up on my girlfriend.Business response

Customer was never quoted on replacing seals on the used transmission they provided... with the labor involved to reseal a transmission this is not something we could offer for free, customer was never told it was illegal but that if we open this transmission it would void the warranty they have with whatever company they bought the transmission from, no Aamco or transmission shop would do any work on a used transmission that the customer provided for free... customer should still have a warranty from the company they purchased the transmission from and they should be contacting that company for a replacement instead of making false claims to the BBB
