I was contacted by a travel agent who presented her business as “I.N TravelPH,” supposedly a travel agency based in the Philippines. She was referred to me by a trusted friend, so I proceeded with booking an international flight through her. All communication was done via text and phone calls, as I live in Montreal and have never met her in person. The agent provided inconsistent business information. Although she introduced herself as operating under “I.N TravelPH,” she requested payment via e-transfer under the name “Jamaica Travel Agency.” Then, the invoice I received was issued by a third name, “Travel Consultant MK.” These inconsistencies were a red flag. Initially, I was able to find my booking on the airline's website, but it was later canceled without explanation. When I contacted the airline, they asked for my e-ticket number. I requested it from the agent multiple times, but she kept making excuses and never sent it. Concerned, I canceled the trip. The agent assured me it was fully refundable and that I would receive the full amount within 10 business days. However, only partial payments have been made in small amounts, and I am still owed a significant portion of the original payment. Communication has since become inconsistent, and I now believe this is part of an ongoing travel scam targeting people who may trust referrals and not question inconsistent business practices. This experience caused me significant stress and financial loss. I want to share this in hopes of preventing others from falling victim to the same scam.
