We received a bill from a hospitalization a family member had which matched up from the actual hospitalization and one of the providers there. However, the name used was listed as “UP Health Marquette” when the actual name is “UP Health System-Marquette”. When I called the number to inquire about why we were receiving a bill from 2 years ago, the foreign person did not ask for any patient identifiers. Then they told me we were just now receiving the bill because the service “was not in network”. When I stated it should be, because it was at our local hospital, they then stated “it is covered by Medicare”. I told the person that is interesting, because the patient is not Medicare age. They stated “I will look into it and call you back”, however they did not confirm a phone number. This charge does not show up on our insurance claims or Explanation of Benefits, and the insurance company was unable to contact the billing dept for this supposed company. Our hospital did have a security breach of billing and medical info as well, which is where the info may have been obtained from. Interestingly, the bill also says to make checks payable to “STeM Management” with the e in lower case. When I looked up the number given, a search revealed it is a scam number. The address listed also has multiple business names under the same address and suite number.
