Description

Scammer reached out to us through a "prayer request" portal on our church website. I reached out to the person donating the “Yamaha Baby Grand Piano” and after some email dialogue (in which I expressed and they wanted to hear my desire to play such a “cherished” instrument) received the moving company info. The only way of communicating with them was through email. I reached out to the moving company to get a quote (they wanted the address of our location). I was beginning to feel weirded out by this experience, so I looked up the moving company’s website (by their email address www.timmoving.com << check them out) and saw a professional yet generic moving company listing. Noticed their address was in Washington DC yet the Google Map couldn’t show the location on the site. I looked the address up and found it was a strip mall in Washington DC with no tenants with the name TIM Moving. I then Googled the donor’s email address and saw the first listing was related to a scam report through the BBB. Also looked up a phone number from the moving company and it too was linked to a scam report through the BBB. Both reports were for the scammers wanting piano moving fees. Here is the email from the "movers": Hello Dave Syphers, Thank you for reaching out regarding the delivery of Mrs. Sophia Thompson's baby grand piano to 1001 SE 60th Ave, Portland, OR 97220. There will be an additional fee for the internal relocations, which we can discuss further once you have selected your preferred delivery option. Looking forward to your response.
