I was contacted by a relative that her friend had posted a job opportunity on Facebook. When I reached out to her friend, she told me to download an app called Telegram messenger to take an online interview via messaging with an interviewer with the supposed name of Nic Herndon. After going through their questions and supposedly getting hired for a remote position, I went through the supposed background check where I put in my SSN and pictures of my driver's license. They also had me open an IRS account using ID.me which I have since closed out. Towards the end of the process they asked me for pictures of my debit card so they could apparently charge a $30 to $50 charge in order the identify me and send me the check for the equipment I was supposed to purchase to perform the job. At this point I told them I would not give them that information and ceased talking with them. Before deleting the app back of my phone, they sent one more message trying to get my bank info so they could potentially put the check in my account I believe. After this a friend of mine contacted Transperfect Translations and found out they are aware of this scam. Also, I contacted the person who was initially supposed to have posted this position on Facebook and found out this was a compromised account and I had been talking with the scammers the whole time. I have frozen all three of my credit reporting accounts, closed the ID.Me account as I specified above, and reported the issue to you, the IRS and the FTC so far.
