Description

Mona Baxter advertised on Facebook, French Bulldog puppies for sale. Her profile stated she was a breeder through the AKC Merit program. We exchanged communications through Facebook Messenger. She sent pictures and videos of the available puppies. She requested a $400 deposit to reserve a puppy. We continued communicating over Messenger. When we decided on the logistics of paying the deposit, we were asked to use Zelle or Apple Pay. We asked to use Paypal. We were given a name and email address to use. Jaairra Powell [email protected]. She stated this was her business partner since she didn't use Paypal. We tried this information and each time it refused to go through. Then they requested we use a gift card instead. I was a bit hesitant and decided to reach out to other people who said they purchased their puppies from this person. Each person I contacted responded with a high regard of service from this "Mona Baxter". So we proceeded with purchasing an Apple Gift card. We sent the screen shot of the card and then was told we now had reserved the puppy "Milo". She asked for our names, address and phone number for the contract. She then said she would be driving from her home to our house to deliver the puppy. This way she could see our house and make sure we were good people. The next day everything changed and she requested we pay the full amount before she would deliver the puppy. We didn't agree to this and began to question this person. After a few hours of negotiating, she agreed that we would pay her the balance when she delivered the puppy. The following day we received a message from a shipping company that our puppy would be delivered that day. We never agreed to using a shipping company. So we contacted the breeder asking why she changed the plan. Her response was she wasn't going to drive all the way to our house without the full amount she was asking for the puppy. The shipping company wanted a fully refundable insurance payment of $300 before they would deliver the puppy. At this point we knew we had been scammed. We tried contacting the shipping company Ship Alliance. Spoke to a foreign sounded man that you couldn't understand what he was saying. And eventually he hung up on both my husband and me. The breeded, Mona Baxter contacted us saying the puppy was at the shipping place and it was left up to us to pay the insurance. When we refused, this person began making threats of suing for breach of contract. Mind you, there was never a legal contract sent by her or signed by us. The Facebook group she is associated with has since been deleted or they blocked me. "Adorable AKC French Bulldog puppies for Adoption Community". The other people I associated with her: Lisa Rogue and Charlene Tammy Paige that I had a conversation with over Facebook Messenger. This all started February 8, 2024.
