I was emailed with a fully remote job offer from the listed email. The company is a legitimate company and the person who messaged me look to have legitimate background history on LinkedIn. The scammer told me to download the RingCenteal app to continue communications. They asked for a chat based interview. They stated that I had gotten the position and provided several documents that looked legitimate, including a job offer letter (I later found a reddit thread reporting the scam with the same letter but from several different companies) followed by a "assessment test" in which they got my home address and phone number. They said they will be sending me a check to cover the startup costs. I was still very skeptical about the legitimacy of this position from the start, but at this point I decided to search for the exact items that they were making me do and I found the aforementioned reddit thread.
