Description

Mom tried to confirm her Delta Airlines reservation. She googled Delta and went on what she thought was Delta's website. A popup came up that said something like "our online help center is down, please call 877-558-5987." She had wanted to call anyway, so she called the number. She spoke to a man with a south asian accent named "Ricky" who asked for her confirmation number. After she gave it to him, he said "I see three people on this confirmation" and said their names. Mom said, "yes, that is correct. I just want to make sure that everything is all set for my Thursday flight." He said he was sorry but that reservation was not booked. He said that he could get them back on the flight, but the tickets would cost $160 more each. What would she like to do? At that point, she said don't do anything because the tickets weren't on her card and there were two other people involved that she had to talk to. They offered to see if there was anything they could do, so she asked to speak to a manager. They put her on with another man "Bob Stanford", also with a south asian accent, who said he might be able to get the tickets at about the same price as she paid originally. In the meantime, my dad had called the Delta desk at DTW and had them on the line. So mom said that she would call the other "Delta" back. My mom gave the reservation number to the actual Delta desk. The woman there told her that the reservation had been canceled. Mom asked when it was canceled and the lady gave her the current date. Fortunately, the lady at Delta was able to rebook the flight at LESS than what the original tickets had cost. In the meantime, the fake Delta had tried to call back a few times (on a different number - this time 567-236-1525) since mom had been on the phone with the real Delta desk. I'm assuming the scam is - the guy canceled her tickets because she had given him the confirmation number. Then he offered to buy them back at a higher rate and either keep the profits, or just not buy the tickets at all and keep the full amount. I couldn't find anything by looking up either number. The first number comes up with a website: https://morwenl.resydesky.com which is a broken link.
