Sam Lloyd, Beutler Ink Hiring Operations Assistant reached out to me about a job as a remote Proofreader. I downloaded an app that allows us to communicate. The email was a red flag for me as it is a hotmail.com email. Unfortunately, that flag didn't raise for me until after I gave my bank info for direct deposit, my address, and my signature on an Employment letter. I tried to call the supplied number a few times but only get in touch if we use the app to say I will call. His response is always, "call in two hours". He promises a MacBook Pro, a wireless color laser all-in-one printer with refills. He claims that those will be provided to perform my job successfully and the vendor will install the program and required software. He says, "The business that will pay for the software and the furnishing for your small office will send you a cheque for the money needed for the software... You must deposit the cheque as soon as it is sent to you. They are sending me the money to ensure a positive working relationship." "You will receive a check through email along with instructions on how to deposit using your mobile app or an ATM when printed on a refill if your bank supports mobile deposit. Once the funds are available for purchase, I will provide you instructions on how to select a certified vendor and how to purchase all of your materials for them. You will pay the seller and save the receipt until the items are delivered to you since you will need it as documentation of your payment. You must deposit the cheque as soon as it is sent to you. You must deposit the money and give me a photo of the deposit sheet for proper verification. The money will be available immediately or within 24 to 48 hours."
