My partner was contacted via text message by someone claiming to be with NextGen Healthcare about a position he did not apply to. He did apply to a different job there but not the one he was contacted about, so he decided to reply in case there was some kind of confusion. The texter said their name was Tara and that they were reaching out because they wanted him to have an interview with someone named Kimberly Woodard. He was instructed to download the messaging app Signal to do the interview. A quick search on LinkedIn confirmed neither Kimberly nor Tara was real so we were already skeptical, but my partner decided to go ahead with the interview to see if he could learn more about the scam. He downloaded Signal and messaged back and forth during his interview with "Kimberly," who he could not be sure was human but thankfully did not ask him for any personal information. He was told that he would receive payment to get his home office set up shortly after accepting the job, and that he would only get to do a live Zoom or voice call with someone after he was hired. By then the scam was clear so he ended his direct engagement with the scammer and tried to contact someone who actually works at NextGen (but did not get a response). Two days after his "interview" however my partner was sent a detailed offer letter from NextGen for the position he never applied for. It was 3 pages long and quite detailed; the average person would easily fall for for it, but fortunately he did not.
