Description

I received a phone call from 847-888-5500 (caller ID appeared as Chase) on Wednesday August 27, 2025 at 3:30 PM and the caller identified themselves as a representative of the JP Morgan Chase fraud prevention team. They asked if I had attempted to make Zelle payments to Virginia Smith in the amount of $1,500 and $500. I told them I did not authorize those transactions, nor did I see them pending on my account. The caller also asked if I lived in the state of New York, and if I used my iPhone 13 Max to make Zelle transactions. I said I do not live in New York, that I do use Zelle on my current iPhone 13 Max, and I shared with them that my previous iPhone 13 Max had been lost in an Uber and was presumably stolen last month (July 2025) because it was not recovered by Uber, and has been visible on the Find My iPhone app at various locations in Florida since the incident. The caller then provided a case number 734674-2136 and two cancellation codes (CC0099300 for the $500 transaction and CC0049700 for the $1,500) and advised me he was transferring me to the Zelle department that would assist me with cancelling the transactions. After being redirected, I spoke with a person who advised me to open my Zelle account so I could “turn off transaction mode” in order to cancel the fraudulent transactions. I immediately asked several questions including his name, employee ID, office phone number, and asked him to explain the details of the process he was attempting to walk me through. He mentioned something about entering the account information for a “back office” person, who would assist in cancelling the transactions. When I told him I suspected this was a scam, he tried to compliment my voice and say he was just trying to help and “get to know me.” To my questions he replied that his name was Joshua O’Connor and that his employee number started with 775136, and “his phone number was on my caller id,” but then provided a number that started with 630-858 (I didn’t catch the last four digits.) I hung up the phone. I then received another call from the same phone number 847-888-5500 at 4:06 PM who stated their name was David Gonzalez with the JP Morgan Chase Fraud department. When I asked, “Did you just call me?” he hung up the phone. In addition to this report, I called the Zelle fraud line (844-428-8542) and spoke with Clark, with whom I provided these details as well. Clark provided my case number * ******** for the Zelle fraud/scam report. I will also be following up with Chase bank to report this scam as well. I have attached a document with this information. Please reach out if additional information is needed, or if you can provide any information that may help me. Thank you for your time.
