Each year, the Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin Foundation, Inc. supports the education of local consumers and businesses on scams and schemes affecting the greater Wisconsin community through its presentations to local businesses, trade associations, schools, senior groups and more.
The BBB of Wisconsin Foundation, Inc. gives presentations on the following topics:
BBB 101
An overview of Better Business Bureau services specific to the state of Wisconsin. Briefly discusses our work on educating the public about businesses, scams, and other specific BBB niche services we provide to the local Wisconsin marketplace.
Managing your Online Reputation
A discussion on the importance of managing customer reviews for your business: encouraging positive reviews, how to handle negative reviews, customer service online, and more *(note: this can also be broken up into individual presentations)
Truth in Advertising
As one of BBB’s 8 Standards for Trust, advertising is an important component to the integrity of your business. We talk about what that means, and what types of claims are considered true.
Fighting Financial Fraud
An interactive presentation designed to help you learn to recognize the red flags of investment fraud and identify the persuasive tactics often used by investment fraudsters’ sales pitches. The presentation involves hands-on activities, including an investor risk quiz, video clips, persuasion spotting exercises, and more.
5 Gestures of Trust
An overview of the 5 Gestures of Trust framework, designed to evaluate customer-business relationships. Discusses research findings on how important trust is for businesses and consumers, what makes consumers trust businesses, how to build better customer relationships, and more about how trust is changing over time.
Scams and Your Business
An in-depth look into the report of 2018 research about small business scams in the United States. Discusses why small businesses are susceptible to scams, top tactics and methods that are used by scammers to target small businesses, the best preventative measures to protect your small business from scams, and more. A discussion of great information to share with employees.
Current Scams and Red Flags
An overview of the latest scams and tips on how to spot them. This presentation can be geared toward a specific scam (senior scams, email phishing, etc.) or can be an all-encompassing discussion of common scams and warning signs.
BBB Savvy Teen
Geared toward high schoolers, this presentation is an overview of how teens can stay safe online and identify common scams such as financial aid scams, fake websites with fake merchandise, general online safety reminders, phishing email scams, text and social media scams, job scams, and more.
How to Buy a Home
A workshop that discusses the big and small details of buying a home, from budgeting, credit scores and loans, to making an offer, negotiation and closing.
