Complaints and customer reviews

Three ways to speak up about a business or marketplace interaction, and a simple way to tell which one fits your situation.

before you file

The difference: Is it a complaint, review, or scam?

Consumers who wish to inform BBB about an experience with a business have a few different options. Consumers can file a complaint, submit a review or inform BBB about a scam. But how do you know which one to use? Here are a few helpful tips:

File

Complaint

You should file a complaint if you had a marketplace relationship with a business and you are seeking BBB assistance to try to resolve a dispute with that business.

File a complaint

submit

Review

You had a marketplace interaction with a business. You want to share your opinion about that experience, but are not seeking BBB assistance or a resolution from the business

Submit a review

Report

Scam

You should report a scam if you are aware of an offer or outreach which seems potentially illegal or fraudulent, and want to report that information to alert or warn others about suspicious activity.

Report a scam

What they share:

Both complaints and reviews are sent to the business before they're published, all three are free for consumers and businesses, and BBB may ask you to substantiate your marketplace experience.
