Vacation rental management made easy
Coastal Maine Vacations is a local family-owned business specializing in vacation rental management located in Knox, ME. Justin Jurist, a native of Ohio, discussed what prompted him to move to Maine and ultimately run a vacation rental management company.
“Ever since I was about 12 years old, I wanted to move to Maine. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the latest “Maine Vacation Guide” and read it from cover to cover. I never visited Maine until I turned 26, but I knew one day I would live here. And in 2008, I did exactly that,” Justin said.
Living in Maine exceeded his expectations. Justin enjoys nature, living near the coast and its residents. “Mainers are friendly and lend a hand to a neighbor when needed. Most people who grew up here have deep family roots that span generations.
Justin began working in the vacation rental industry about 13 years ago. “I was working for a vacation rental management company which got acquired. Shortly after, I was approached by an individual who wanted me to build a startup business for vacation rental property management. Less than two years later, the owner wanted to sell it to me. Coastal Maine Vacations was purchased and is a local, family-owned business,” Justin said.
Justin shared that he set out to build a streamlined system for renters and homeowners. “This is what I was dying to do—create my vision from the ground up serving two types of customers—the people who rent homes and the homeowners. It’s easy for guests to go online and view detailed information about the homes we manage and make their reservations. Homeowners have exclusive access to their properties’ revenue and booking reports.”
In addition, Justin said many of the homes he manages are the owners’ second homes—either summer homes or inherited properties. Coastal Maine Vacations helps homeowners generate income. “Our homeowners are trying to hold onto these homes because they are part of their family’s legacy. Currently, owners are struggling because of volatile market conditions while trying to pay taxes, mortgages and other expenses. Coastal Maine Vacations provides them with a way to generate a revenue stream while still enjoying their home whenever they want,” Justin said.

When asked what he likes best about running the business, Justin said, “I like constant change, meeting new people, and there’s no monotony in this industry. Moreover, helping homeowners achieve their goals with an additional revenue stream.”
