I received a letter from Ability Recovery Services on July 13th, 2024 stating they are trying to collect for a debt to ******************** for the amount of $589.00. I contacted *************** that is part of ********************, and was told there is a zero balance that all bill were paid. I then requested proof of payment in which I included and sent back to Ability Recovery. I then received another letter on August 12th, 2024, so I called and spoke to **** and obtained permission to record our phone conversation. I advised her that the there is no monies owed, she looked in her computer and said that **** Emergency is a different eternity than Bartow Emergency... which in fact is not true, they are one in the same. I then asked **** to prove what debt I owe, which she could not and kept saying that ****** and **** Emergency are not the same. When you ****** them it is the same, and I told her that it is her job to prove that they have a valid debt. She became belligerent, I then advised her to cease and desist and asked if she understood, in which she continued to talk over me. I then advised her if they contact me again I will have my attorney contact them, in which she started yelling to give her my attorneys information.Neither of the invoices I have from the date and place of the incident match up with the amount they are supposedly trying to collect either.Business Response

Ability Recovery Services LLC received the above identified Complaint from your office. This Complaint was filed by the Consumer both with the BBB and the ****. *********** strives to respond adequately to all consumer concerns and herein responds to Consumer as follows:
Consumer did receive a letter explaining the amount of balance due, date of service and both current creditor and original creditor. Consumer also did call into our company and talked to a representative. Note please that all our calls are recorded for quality assurance. Consumer asked for further proof of debt, as he believed that all bills had been adjusted to a zero balance. Attempts were made to explain to the Consumer that this was for a different physician's bill for emergency services. Consumer then asked for no further contact and indicated that he had an attorney. Our agents are trained to request attorney contact name and apologize if this request caused escalation of the call.
The information provided my Consumer showing adjustments to bills on the stated service date are not the bill upon which collection efforts were made. Because of the cease and desist by Consumer, we cannot send proof of the bill that is still owed directly to the Consumer. Because the **** portal is secure we are including the proof of the ******************* owed as an attachment to the **** response. Ability Recovery Services has also properly marked the account in a dispute status so that the consumer has time to review further the information we are providing in this response.
It is hoped that the Consumer and Ability Recovery Services can amicably resolve this issue and the Consumer may contact the undersigned directly to discuss further.

They have wrongly filed a collection on my credit report. This have been disputed several times now and repeatedly removed. They are attempting to collect money from me that is not my debt or responsibility. The debt they are trying to collect was a ********* comp debt for someone else related to me. That debt was resolved the last time this showed up on my credit report by the responsible party when the person that was injured inquired from the employer about the debt and told them that it was wrongly affecting my credit. It was immediately removed. My name was apparently inadvertently put on the papers at the emergency room-a hospital where I was a patient years before this debt occurred but my name is similar to the actual patient-related. I was not there and have not been to an emergency room as a patient for over ***** years. 1. They are attempting to collect a paid debt.2. The debt isn't mine and never was.3. The responsible party has paid this debt.4. It was immediately removed from my credit report when responsible party resolved it.5. It is a ********* comp bill. for someone else. 6. I am in no way responsible for this debt. Since this is not my debt, there have never been bills sent to me, there is no corroborating documentation because I was not the patient. However, attached is info from Experian on previous attempt to collect by Central Portfolio and deleted off of my report.Business Response

This has not been resolved. They asked for documentation, which since I am not the patient, or the ********* comp. representative and did not work at this place or even go into the hospital on the day of debt acquired...etc., it is taking a bit of time to get the information they requested. IE proof that this isn't my debt. I have contacted the patient (which they did not do), who in turn has contacted the former employer and has now just been able to get in touch with someone who has access to the ********* comp. information. I am waiting for them to verify and send documentation so that I can provide it.Customer Answer

After contacting the patient for information, she found her copy of the form she filled out for ********* comp which she turned into the employer. She has contacted the employer to hopefully obtain verification and documentation that this is a ********* comp. claim and that it has been resolved and that I am not responsible for this debt. She is waiting for a response.Business Response

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the response. If no reason is received your complaint will be closed as Answered]
Complaint: 22116106
I am rejecting this response because:
I am doing the work of reaching out to the actual patient who in turn is attempting to get an additional form of validation confirming that this is a ********* comp claim from 2020 and to have them contact you. While we wait, perhaps you could provide some information.First, is there something specific that your client needs for validation of the ********* comp claim. Did you see the document I sent? Please remember, I am not the patient, I was not the employer and I wasn't in the hospital when the ** visit occurred.
Also, please answer these questions.
Do you have anything that shows where I signed to agree to be responsible for another person's medical debt (patient-********* comp)? As you pointed out, I am not the patient, who was an adult at the time noted on information you provided. During the registration, I would have had to sign something agreeing to pay as a guarantor but I didn't because I wasn't there.
Did the hospital take any insurance information that links this to me? They didn't, again because I wasn't there.
Did they confirm my address? From what you provided, I can tell you they did not.
Did you ever contact the actual patient for information? If you did she hasn't gotten any messages or letters from you. She can confirm that it was a ********* comp claim and perhaps provide additional details that I can't.
In light of all of this, along with the document I sent earlier, please consider this...
You haven't been upfront with all the information (implied my debt-no mention of how the debt occurred and only the last communication mentioned the actual patient's name and the hospital). If you had this information, you most certainly know this is a ********* comp claim yet you are still trying to get me to pay you off.
If you attempted to call me-no messages were left.
And as far as I know it has been paid.
The reason I know it is a ********* comp is because I know the patient and about the visit she had to the ** on 8-13-2020.
All this has felt and continues to feel like a scam to me.
Please address these questions and provide information that proves you aren't a scammer or on the off chance you aren't a scammer perhaps you could contact someone who can give you the documentation you need and remove this from my credit. This is not my debt.

Updates:
On 9/16/24
Received an update from the patient: the patient and the ********* comp. claims department attempted to contact them and they refused to discuss it with them-claiming they needed my consent.
I called to give them my consent. (# on letter-same #patient called)1st call Very quickly, I was informed they no longer had account-wouldn't provide contact info. of who had it.
Then contacted ***(2nd company listed on letter) -told I had the wrong division-no contact info provided
Then contacted *** in **********-finally given name and number to call. That it was Ability Recovery-which is who I thought I was contacting.
Called that number and after giving information was hung up on twice.
On third attempt, spoke to a *** (can provide name) and gave permission for them to discuss and resolve this issue with the patient and ********* comp claim department ***resentative. I provided them with name of both.
The patient attempted to call again...went directly to voicemail and she left a message.
It has been almost 10 days and there has been no communication to me why this has not yet been resolved or what is needed to resolve it.
I have been making a good faith effort to resolve this on my end by providing them the information they said they needed. Again, as I have been saying, this is not my debt. This is a ********* comp. claim for someone that is not me but that can easily be resolved if they just talk to the patient and the ********* comp. claim department ***resentative.

I am very confused because a debt popped up on my credit report. It says I have a collection with Ability Recovery Services that opened on June 24, 2024. I never received notice from this debt company and am not even sure what this debt is from. I have no way of going online to see, and when I called no one knows. There is only one collection I have ever had which is from my college (original account ************************) If this is what the debt is referring to, a different debt collection company owns that debt which was opened 3 weeks prior.Business Response

******** **************** is claiming that I owe a medical bill for $1,219 from April of 2020 that I have no idea what it is for. I have asked for an itemized copy of the bill to be sent to me and have never received one. Not only that, but the first time I called them they told me they had no information they could give me but the longer I spoke with the man on the phone the more information he could suddenly come up with. The only reason I ever knew about this issue is when I checked my credit score and it had plummeted over 100 points, I was shocked. It had already been on my credit report for 2 months before I ever noticed! I had never received any correspondence or phone calls from them or the doctors to let me know I had a bill, let alone that it would be going to collections. The companys phone number was on my credit report and so I made contact with them first and have called them several times since requesting documentation and information that they have said would be sent to me but never have been. I double checked my email address and physical address with them and even though they have the correct ones, I am still not receiving what I have requested from them. I am realizing that they are a total scam and want no further contact from them and want the debt taken off my credit report and my score restored. The red flags were evident when they have come after me to collect this debt when all medical and insurance everything is always under my husbands name. Not to mention that the date they are saying I acquired this bill was 5 days before I gave birth to our other child and I know for a fact I did not take my middle child (who they claim this bill is for) to the *** So how could I have a medical bill for him under my name? If my child would have needed to go to the ** my husband would have been the one to take him considering I was about to give birth anyday/time. This whole thing seems so scammy.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: you did not provide me with a detailed bill from the doctor and/or medical facility. The one you provided is one you typed up. I am not paying anything until you can prove to me where this bill came from with the original detailed bill. I never received a bill from the doctors to begin with so how do I know this is a real bill? Not to mention when I spoke with a representative from the collection agency they said this bill was for a doctor, when I googled the codes you sent it says they are codes for the ** not the doctor. None of this adds up. Please void this bill and restore my credit score. This is a scam.

This randomly showed up on my credit score last month. I have no idea who this company is or how they got my information. When the account first showed on my credit report, it had concord medical listed the original creditor. But, now my credit report has ability recovery services listed as the original creditors, but I have searched through all my medical claims for the last 2.5 years and have zero claims from either of them or for the amount in collection, $611. I would like them to verify to me the validity of this debt, or remove it from my credit report.Business Response

However, BBB does not verify the accuracy of information provided by third parties, and does not guarantee the accuracy of any information in Business Profiles.
When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.
BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.
As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
