Took my car in on 6/6/23. I took my car in because the “hot engine” light would come on when I went over 65 mph, but would turn off under 55 mph. This place was my second opinion. Was told in order to diagnose, they needed to tear the dashboard out to get in there. (Originally thought it was heater core issues). Was told my radiator cap was loose and thermostat was being finicky. They said they fixed it. ******* told me that he was 90% sure it was the issue. My car overheated again when I drove it, so the issue wasn’t fixed. They tried replacing it with another type thermostat. Also paperwork I was given listed a bunch of stuff they did, but the reason given was parts were toward the end of their life. (Paperwork also reflected that my car had 150,000 miles on it, but my car hasn’t even reached 115,000 miles! When trying to address things between ******* and ****, one day it would be *******, the next ****. They constantly conflicted each other and always had an excuse. “I wasn’t here yesterday,” “nothing is guaranteed,” “we’ve been busy,” etc….. I didn’t bring my car in for a clown show and to be scammed out of money and not be fixed. It seems all they did was go by how many miles I had on my car and what maintenance needed done. A Google search would be just as effective! Also, I’d be told I’d be called and given updates and no one ever called, except for when my car was actually “done” in their eyes. $1,200 later between having to get a rental car and repairs, and my car still isn’t fixed. I brought my car in to get the actual issue fixed. Not some Google degree guesstimations! Always an excuse. Incomplete paperwork and **** made the excuse he’d only been there 9 months and couldn’t fix the paperwork (it didn’t print all information on itBusiness Response

Vehicle has multiple issues. On 6/6, we
replaced the thermostat for the overheating issue. The leak seems to becoming from
the head gasket. On 6/9, we replaced the thermostat under warranty and noted

I am rejecting this response because:In their statement, they said it had multiple issues. I brought it in for the issues to be DIAGNOSED and FIXED. They told me the issues and fixed them. Clearly they weren’t the issue since the issue wasn’t resolved. Also, the paperwork showed they put down that my car had 150k miles on it, but it actually only had 114k on it. The paperwork given to me said the reason they replaced the “loose radiator cap” and thermostat that was sticking, was because “it was nearing the end of its useful life.” I brought my car in to be diagnosed and fixed. Not replace parts that were near the end of its useful life. That’s not diagnosing AND fixing the issue. Also, between **** and *******, half the time, they contradicted each other and never communicated with each other. I was without a functional car for 4 days because they said they’d diagnose and fix it and then copped an attitude when I kept coming back. I have every right to be angry about this. They’re scamming customers, taking andvantage, and not fixing things.

I am rejecting this response because:
Business told me that they weren’t sure the issue and the head gasket sealer was just in case it was the head gasket. They told me it wasn’t a for sure thing. Their response is a straight up lie. If that were the case, then they wouldn’t have told me to go to a dealership because they’re not sure what it is. This business changes their story by the hour

We come to Midas for an oil change. They told us our breaks need change. After we pay $485 for them to work on the breaks of the car on the way home the car shows “malfunction breaks”. We drop off the car again on April 20. Since then our car still not fixed. They need BMW to help them figuring out the problems. When they works on the breaks somehow they damaged the Clippers on both sides. They admitted before and promise to fix it and ask our permission to let them do the work. The finishing date has be pushed back many times with different reasons. Now after their latest promise finish date (May 10th)three weeks, we came back from overseas . They denied everything and do not want pay the cost to fix the car the damaged.
We hope our rights can get protected by your help and by law.Business Response

During late April 2023 through mid-May 2023, my Chevy Cruze had been brought in to this shop. First for a very minor oil leak, which progressed into more severe issues after each service.
4/22/23: drain plug, (still leaking); 4/24/23: valve cover and water outlet housing (still leaking), 5/9/23: oil cooler (took car on road and lost oil pressure, had to get a tow in to the shop), on or around 5/10: turbo return, on or around 5/11: intake. On 5/11 the water return line blew apart and again got a tow in to a service shop in the area, out of state. Car is currently not drivable and is giving performance codes for a failing turbo.
The shop told both me and my significant other, in separate conversations, that the turbo had to be removed to replace the oil cooler. This is corroborated with information found online for how to replace the oil cooler.
Upon conversation with the District Manager, he said they would not be able to make a repair under their warranty. The shop representative who had been working on the car at the time of repair told both me and my significant other, in separate conversations, that the turbo had to be removed to replace the oil cooler. Yet the DM is telling us they did not remove the turbo. And the Shop Rep has told us now he didn't remove the turbo. They are lying to us to avoid fixing this car under warranty.
I will be filing a lawsuit in the near future if this is not resolved quickly.Business Response

Vehicle was in on 4/22, and we noted the signed invoice - engine does have oil leaks starting point would be valve cover leak. You can also research/Google "lack of oil affecting turbo" and you will find " If oil levels are too low, the turbocharger will fail." you will also find - "Why does oil starvation damage turbos? As turbochargers can operate at over 240,000 rpm and endure temperatures of 950°C, turbo bearings are under great stress. The turbine shaft and bearings rotate in a thin film of oil. If oil is not present at start-up and while the turbo is running, the bearings will fail." We are not responsible for the turbo going bad simply because we had to remove it to repair the oil leaks affecting the turbo.Customer Answer

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because Midas has a role in the failure of the turbo and is denying that responsibility,It turns out, after taking the vehicle to the next shop after getting it towed, the next shop identified the turbo wasn’t actually removed when Midas replaced the oil cooler. They could tell this because the turbo lines were damaged due to Midas attempting to work around it to access the oil cooler. The turbo damage was specifically due to Midas damaging the mechanical integrity when attempting to work around it to access the oil cooler, therefore Midas is responsible for the replaced turbo.
As mentioned the car nearly overheated shortly after picking it up from Midas. Coolant was lost from the system at the water return line where it became disconnected for no apparent reason. There was no clamp to be found on the line where it should have been. Midas either did not supply a clamp, or it was an improper clamp, or was improperly installed.
it is erroneous for Midas to say they had no role in the failures of the vehicle that occurred shortly after they had worked on it.

So the original complaint, we were responsible for the turbo because we removed it to make the repair. Now, we are responsible for the turbo because we did not remove it during repair. Nothing more we can do here, we are not responsible for multiple issues the vehicle is having.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because the merchant is still not accepting responsibility. As written in the first letter, the information provided that your employee removed the turbo was based on the literal information your own employee told me stating they had to remove the turbo. How would I have known differently? As indicated in my second letter, additional information was discovered when the vehicle was taken to another auto shop. See attached. This work is directly related to the poor workmanship from the Midas shop.

On 12/01/22 I took my car to Midas for coolant leaking issues. The total amount paid came to $1,729.01. The issues I was having were not resolved, and as such the vehicle was using roughly one gallon of coolant per week for several months until the issues were resolved in less than eight hours and $400 at a different shop.
I have been in contact with Midas corporate for over a month trying to resolve this issue, to no avail. I have only been contacted once by Midas, despite my calling at least four times. Midas only contacted me AFTER I had filed a complaint with the PA Attorney General’s Office. They are still being uncooperative and unresponsive.
I have dozens of photos and videos all of which are digitally date/time stamped and some of which are location tagged showing the leaking well after the repair date at Midas. I also have billing information from both Midas and the shop that repaired the vehicle correctly. All of the above can be provided as requested.Business Response

Customer refuses to send me a receipt showing his problem
resolution. He originally came in with the service request of “losing
oil and coolant, been losing coolant for about 3 months, oil was noticed 4-5
days ago.” So there are two things being addressed: An apparent recent oil leak ($841.94 plus tx) And A coolant leak that had been going on for three
months. ($841.94 plus tax) We addressed the obvious things that were showing up that
day but cannot predict what may go bad over time since it was an overheat
condition for three months.
Customer states that he had the vehicle at another shop
after our repair and had the thermostat housing replaced as it was leaking.
This is since our shop looked at the vehicle back in the beginning of December.
He says we are incompetent. I believe it eventually did start to leak due to
the neglected overheating of the vehicle for 90 days prior to our repair. This is a common repair on the Chevy Cruz, but if it isn’t
leaking we do not suggest replacement.
We replaced what was leaking at the time of our
repair. We do have record and recollection of a follow-up visit that there was
an air pocket in the coolant system to be addressed. Again, at that time we
checked for any external leaks which there were none. The customer states he had to come back four times. We
do not have that documentation or recollection.
I told him I didn’t believe a refund was warranted and he
said he had to get off the phone and if I changed my mind that I could call him
back. I have not called him back.Initial Complaint

Back in mid-January, I took my car to this business because my brakes were grinding. They appeared to fix the problem for $660, but then I began to hear grinding brakes again in March. I took my car in again on 3/31/23. Because it was raining on this day, I was told that they couldn't check the brakes because the slick roads would prevent them from accurately checking for a problem. They did, however, find a bunch of required maintenance that I needed for $1300.
On 5/2/23, I took my car to Pep Boys for a state inspection. My car failed the state inspection because I needed my steering and suspension fixed, and that was the source of the grinding noise I was hearing. I was livid upon hearing this, because Midas supposedly fixed my steering and suspension for $180 on 3/31/23. Pep Boys said it was in awful shape and kindly suggested that I don't ever go to Midas again. I feel scammed! I would also like to know why Midas did not fix any other issues that Pep Boys had to fix today, for another $1300!!Business Response

We welcome our customer to get second opinions, but of course a competitor is going to throw us under the bus. We replaced the left outer tie rod on 3/31, this was replaced due to the condition of the part and needed the immediate attention. We are not going to refund the customer for work performed and needed simply because a competitor tells them to never return to Midas. For all we know, the laundry list from the competitor is not really needed. Customer is welcome to return to Midas, and we can inspect the work we performed to verify there is no issues and verify the other issues for a second opinion.Initial Complaint

I seek REFUND from MIDAS, as a truck I sent there on March 16, 2023 was not fixed. A couple of times, I had sent my 2014 FORD EXPLORER to this same workshop within 3 months.
My last visit was about the Steering not operating correctly. It was getting HARD to turn curves.
After checking in with this location on CONANT STREET, MAUMEE, OHIO, they did their usual diagnosis, and explained what they needed to do to FIX the problem.
Note that PROBLEM was that the Steering was getting a bit harder turn. In most older cars, this would be an issue with Power Steering Fluid. I understand this FORD uses a different mechanism.
MIDAS did a diagnosis, and promised to work on the car. When it was all done, they offered a 1-year warranty on the work done.
When I showed up to pick up the car, it was undrivable. It’s been parked on their premises since.
There’s been a change of manager recently at this location. From what I hear, the work they did was to tighten some wobbling devices that hold the steering in place. I’m now asked to tow the truck to a FORD Dealership, where they’d perform some kind of FLUSHING.
If the shop knew they couldn’t perform the task for which I sent the car there, there was no need for do anything I hadn’t asked for. Over the phone, while a tech was working on the car, they drew my attention to a couple of things that needed to be fixed, all geared toward fixing the steering. I gave the approval in the hope of having the issue fixed. This was not to be. That’s a RIP-OFF. And I demand a refund, or MIDAS takes care of the charges of the FLUSHING at a FORD Dealership.
Suffice it to say that the truck was there for service on Nov. 19, 2023; Dec. 29, 2022; then on March 16, 2023, What they claimed to have done was really NOT the reason I sent the car to MIDAS. Now my truck cannot drive because the steering wheel cannot be turned at all. It’s definitely worse than it was before.
I demand full refund of $1,900.00, or FIX the problem . Job was not done.Business Response

I paid Midas at 489 Court St in Binghamton, NY $1246.39 to replace the radiator and do a NYS inspection inspection on my 2012 Volkswagen Jetta wagon. The car recently was leaking fluid, so I took it to a local mechanic in Buffalo, NY. The mechanic found several problems with the work that was done by Midas to install the new radiator; I am requesting a refund because I need to have the radiator reinstalled and possibly replaced because of the negligent work done by Midas.
Per ******* ********** in Buffalo, NY, there was a leak from the upper radiator hose, which has tape wrapped around it at the radiator connection and a clamp was in the wrong location. The radiator is not installed correctly: it is missing the radiator brackets and there are bolts and clips missing. It will require replacement of the front bumper, possibly a new radiator, and it will require a new upper radiator coupling and the radiator brackets. There may be additional parts needed once disassembly begins.
I have uploaded the paperwork below.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because it completely ignores my originally filed complaint. I wrote specific details about how I had an independent mechanic lookover their work on the radiator installation and he noted that the work was completely negligent and and the installation process was incorrect. I attached his report to my previous complaint for proof. I would like a full refund from Midas because I will now have to pay another mechanic to fix the incompetent work they did to my vehicle. I am not filing this report to get a refund for the bumper, I am much more concerned about the radiator because of how poorly it was installed. That is why I don't see their response as valid because they completely ignored the majority of my claim.

I took my Car to Midas auto service on ****** street in ****** **** to have a control arm and wheel bearing replaced, during the inspection of the vehicle the tech. found the brake pads were worn and suggested that I have them doa brake job while it was there and gave a verbal estimate close to 1,000$ and I said no just do the contracted work and I would see to the brakes later. When I got the car back the drivers side rear wheel locked up while my wife was driving, I called the Midas shop and told the tech what happened, to which he responded I told you the brakes were bad, bring it back and I'll show you how worn the pads are . Well the car was underivable so I couldn't bring it back (besides which I know that worn pads don't cause the wheel to seize. so I inspected the car and found caliper had not been bolted back onto the knuckle so the caliper bound between brake rotor and axle of the cart binding up rear wheel. So I did the brake job myself, but had difficulty finding the caliper mounting bolts as the local autocrats store had the wrong part listed for the 2013 ford max sel so when I special ordered them the part was wrong. so long story short I lost weeks use of the car and missed medical appointments, the corporate office offered to pay for parts if I had receipts, but I didn't feel that was a fair resolution especially since they wanted to charge me 1,000$ for a brake job performed by them but my inconvenience was only worth 90$Business Response

On 3/10/2023 had my car towed to Midas on 511 Smith Rd,Cincinnati OH 45209. For belt coming off and leaking antifreeze by the belt. Told my waterpumup was good. So instead telling me that probably the leak made my belt come off. That I needed my belt tensioner replaced for $420.00. Then filled my car back up with antifreeze. But never test drove it. Finally got my car home and checked under the hood. Not a drop of antifreeze. It comes out where it leaked when I got it towed. So probably only a $20.00 hose.Business Response

Nothing more we can do, customer was in on 3/10 due to belt coming off. we determined the issue was the tensioner. We replced the tensioner and oil pan and gasket due to oil leak that was found. Customer then returned on 3/18 for an antifreeze leak, at this time we found radiator needing replaced. We did not cause these issues, normal wear on a 24 year old vehicle.Customer Answer
