Provided an estimate to my insurance company, **** payed out for 80% of the amount, but before issuing the final 20% wanted justification for some charges they felt Roto-Rooter did not provide or felt inflated. On 17 occasions Roto-Rooter ignored emails, calls, and inquiries from myself and USAA regarding the matter and instead attempted to bill me directly, threatening legal action if a payment was not made. Harassed my phone and home by mailing letters and calling at all hours threatening reprecussions if not paid. When informed that **** is willing to pay the amount once a justification is sent to them regarding the items and question they would simply deflect and deny that they ever received communication from me or my insurance company. Or on more than one occasion would simply say that they were merely a collections agent and were just doing there job. When contact was finally made with them, they would ignore follow *** and emails from the insurance company the insurance company, investigator, and the claims adjuster. All while continually harassing me in my family to pay the outstanding balance, that the insurance company is still willing to cover once the paperwork is provided to them as per protocol. Legal council has been contacted for a consult and ***** special investigations division is looking into the matter to possibly drop all coverage with Roto-Rooter. All I'm seeking is the company provide the requested justifications and documentation to the insurance company and either resolve the matter or come to an agreement on the remaining balance with ****. No coverage was ever denied therefore when justification is provided **** will make the paymentInitial Complaint

On July 24, 2025 I called Roto Rooter out to my house to look at a leak in the bathroom that had leaked into the drywall down the first floor. The plumber came out first and completed the job. I paid him and that was fixed. The water restoration guy came next (**** ********). He came in and looked at the damage and told me that I needed to have fans put in as well as anti-mold sprayed in between the first and second floors. **** explained that there would be another company contacting me to cut out the drywall from the first floor after it had been dried and sprayed and treated. I paid him $2500. He then was leaving and told me that the fans would be there that day to be installed to dry out the drywall. The fans did not come until day number two. The fans were started and stayed there until July 29th. I was told that the fans were going to be picked up on the 28th but they did not come until the 29th. I was at work when I received a call from Keywaune *******. I told him that he was supposed to come the day before and that I was not able to let him into the house. I did ask him if my 16-year-old son was able to let them in if they needed to pick up the fans that day and then they could come the next to spray the microbials into the wall. Later that day, I got a DocuSign document that said that I signed that everything was complete. I had not been to the house from work, nor did I talk to a representative I had not met this man nor did I sign that document. I then began calling and emailing Roto Rooter with no one calling me back. I called and left voicemails with **** as well as his manager. The ******* contracted company that was going to replace the drywall come over and he said that he was going to contact **** to see what had gone on and I then began to hear nothing from him. The jobs has not been fixed and I paid them $2500 and the only thing they did was put fans in and dry out the water.Initial Complaint

We contacted every plumber we could find during an emergency, including one affiliated with our home insurance. Roto-Rooter arrived first, told my husband they reviewed our policy, and assured us that the work would be covered through insurance. Based on that representation, we let them proceed.I later confirmed with my insurance company that another mitigation team was already en route one that would have completed the job for $5,000, which is the exact amount covered under our policy. I explicitly told the Roto-Rooter team that our insurance only covered $5,000, but they told me not to worry, stating that theyd handle it directly with insurance. We were never provided a formal estimate. Instead, my husband was pressured into signing a contract with blank pricing ranges, which were later filled in using different-colored ink showing $7,500$12,500. When the final bill came back at $17,000, we had to challenge it only for them to reduce it down to $12,500, not as a goodwill adjustment, but simply because that was the upper limit they had written in after the fact.Throughout the job, equipment failed, including nonfunctional fans and a lift that didnt work for nearly two days. Their plumber also billed us $715 for a stoppage I ended up clearing myself. They left our home dry, dusty, and a mess, and walked away without cleaning up. The communication was deceptive, and their handling of our situation felt predatory and dishonest. We are requesting a fair adjustment to our invoice, based on the misleading assurances, equipment failures, and the fact that this job should have cost no more than the $5,000 our insurance approved.Initial Complaint

To Whom It May Concern,We are submitting this complaint regarding Roto-Rooter following an incident that resulted in significant property damage due to their negligence. We hired Roto-Rooter to address a slow drain issue in our condominium. During the course of the work, their plumber failed to properly reattach the cold water line to the sink. As a result, a major leak occurred, causing extensive water damage throughout the unit. The affected areas include:The upstairs vanity, tile floor, and drywall The downstairs bathroom and tile floor Hallway wood flooring and surrounding walls The door jamb and baseboards Roto-Rooter is the only contractor who worked on the plumbing, and the damage occurred immediately following their service. Despite this, they have refused to accept responsibility.Additionally, while other reputable contractors working in our unit have obtained proper permits for their work, Roto-Rooter refused to file one. They claimed that, as "emergency plumbers," they are not required to do so and suggested that this status makes them more favorable than licensed plumbers with the contractor state licensing board. We find this to be both misleading and concerning. We are seeking accountability and a resolution from Roto-Rooter to address the damages caused by their work and their failure to follow standard procedures.Thank you for your attention to this matter. Have more pictures if need be. Sincerely,***** ******* ****************************************************************************************************** ********** *********************** Date of service: 6 July 2025 Location of service: **********************************************************Initial Complaint

We opened a claim with Roto Rooter to assist in cleaning out a leaking pipe in our wall. They have been a nightmare since. They will not work with our Insurance, ******************** to finish out this claim quickly. While working with them to have this squared away with our Insurance, they filed a Claim of Mechanics Lien on us. We are actively working with them and our insurance to finish this out and they go behind our backs and file a claim against us. They have added a large amount of stress to this process that was totally unnecessary. It feels like they are trying to make the process difficult.Initial Complaint

Roto Rooter did work for us earlier this year. They refused to respond to our insurance company when there was a disagreement with the price. Our insurance company used a program that most insurances use to find the cost of items in our area. After everything was complete there was still a nearly $1000 difference. I contacted Roto Rooter again after talking to my insurance company and asked for an itemized bill. After reviewing the bill and asking for clarification they came down $336. After speaking with my insurance and reviewing the bill, it is clear that their prices are much higher than others in the area and there were things on the original bill that were completely false. We were just made aware less then a week ago that we were going to have a balance and one of their employees has been extremely pushy and rude via phone calls and emails in order to collect the balance. I was given push back when wanting clarification on the bill when clearly the bill was incorrect originally. It seems that their bill is mostly exaggerated prices and lies and then pushy workers that threaten to send the bill to collections if you dont pay within a certain amount of time. He even went as far to say that they will come pick a check up at the house instead of us mailing or paying online. We are very disappointed with this company and their unprofessionalism and want to report this so that others dont go through what we have gone through.Initial Complaint

Called roto rooter in April 2025 for a slow flushing toilet. They sent out two men. One was the plumber/worker and the other a salesman. The worker sent a camera down my sewer pipe and told me i had a cracked pipe under my house and that mud was clogging the pipe. He showed me a blury video of water in a pipe and not being a plumber i said now what? Well it was my luck day as the salesman was there to hand me his card. He said he works real well with insurance companies. They gave me a written estimate for $14,000.00 for repairs. They refused to send copies of the video to my insurance company or me. I had another plumber give me an estimate for half the price. That plumber did the job and found that there was no broken sewer pipe. Mind you the sewer pipe was under my dining room floor which is on a concrete slab. It was a huge mess. It was also a lie. Luckily my insurance company paid for the demolition and sewer pipe replacement. Is roto rooter running a scam? You decide but always get a second opinion on major work.Initial Complaint

On 5/21/2025, I called Rooter Hero Pumbling, after I was unable to clear a backed up sewer line. I called the *** & requested a camera to view the issue. First tech came out almost 3hrs from promised time, he said his camera wasnt working and called for a supervisor to come out. Sup. arrived 45 min later, he said his camera detected broken clay ***** that my sewer line had collapsed ***** ft from my downstairs bathroom to almost the outside sidewalk. He also said the foundation in my garage is sinking. The initial est. was $40,000 to break the frt lawn, place a sleeve around the collapsed red clay ***** install a new clean out, break my water fountain that could be in the way of the ***** break ground through my outside tiled hallway. I explained I couldnt afford that & immediately they dropped the price to $22,000. At 9:30pm, I authorized the repair. The supervisor said he was applying for a late night permit which I thought odd. The next morning the company was 2 hrs late to arrive for the repair. I called my insurance company to put in a claim for damages and then I phone my water department to come out and inspect because the repair they sold me wasnt making sense. They wanted to break the city sidewalk and the city strip to cut tree roots, I explained to Rooter Hero, I didnt own that section of land the city of ********* did. The water **** came out immediately they hooked up their camera and said my sewer line was not broken, there was no red clay ***** the pipe is SDR ***** & there was no blockage from the lawn to the street. The water **** found my clean out which was about 3 feet from where Rooter Hero started digging. We were able to clean out the line with no complications, no broken pipes found!!! The City of Fairfield ********** reported Rooter Hero to the permit **** because they did not file for a permit and to the city offices for potential scam. I cancelled the order.Initial Complaint

I am filing this complaint regarding deceptive and excessive billing by Roto-Rooter following a water mitigation service at my home. The water damage was caused by a clean water leak from a busted water heater, which typically qualifies as Category 1. However, Roto-Rooter changed the classification to Category 2, increasing the cost and scope of work without proper justification.A technician installed far more drying machines than necessary for the small affected area, resulting in inflated equipment charges. The drying process was supposed to be completed by Monday, but I had to call multiple times to get the equipment removed. I was billed for the extra days the equipment remained on-site, despite no longer being needed.Roto-Rooter also claimed that technicians visited multiple times to monitor the equipment. However, my home security cameras show only one technician visit. This discrepancy raises concerns about false billing for services that were not rendered.I compared Roto-Rooters invoice to a third-party estimate based on industry-standard pricing. The third-party estimate confirmed that fewer machines, a lower category classification, and a shorter drying period were appropriate. Their cost was in the hundreds, while Roto-Rooters charges reached into the thousands. This conductincluding reclassifying clean water, overcharging for unnecessary equipment, billing for visits that didnt happen, and ignoring valid complaintsis unacceptable and appears predatory, especially in an emergency situation.Resolution Sought:A full and transparent audit of charges and services Correction of the water classification Removal of charges for unneeded equipment and unverified technician visits A fair refund or adjustment for overcharges I respectfully ask the BBB to investigate Roto-Rooters billing practices in this matter.
