Do not trust Barclays. I've had a CC account with them longer than I can recall now. I have never missed a payment, never been late, alway pay my balances. The first time I accepted a Balance Transfer offer (from zero balance) they responded by reducing my available credit from $28K down to my BT amount (I think it was $12K). Other companies saw the credit utilization change and followed suit. They single handedly destroyed my credit, increased my cost of borrowing as every company raised my interest rate in response. Barclays raised my rate from 15% to 25% because "I was using too much credit". They force your credit utilization rate to change, then charge you for using more credit. This company operates in bad faith. Recently I was stupid enough to trust them again, accepted a Balance Transfer offer (from a zero balance). Again, I never miss a payment, Again, no change in income or address. No big purchases. I pay off $8K in debt across all accounts this month, raise my credit score back to 739, they respond today by vaporizing $2,800+ in my available credit, making it look like I am at my credit limit. Again changing by credit utilization rate. Now they will raise my interest rate, again, other companies will see the changes and follow suit. Barlcays destroys lives for profit. Their business model relies on screwing over their customers. All we can do is tell everyone our experiences, at every opportunity. This is becoming industry practice. Two years ago Amex did the same thing. You make more money, pay off more debt, never miss a payment... they respond by cutting your credit and charging more for "using too much of your credit line". When they destroy our credit either way, why bother to pay? We might as well file for bankruptcy, use a debt settlement company. I make 6 figures, I pay my bills early, I pay off my balances. Why? So they can force a fraudulent crisis every few years for a short term profit?
