My husband has been stuck with greenshield for 20 years. Ive had group benefits through other insurance companies who have always covered the remaining 20% of my husbands drugs after greenshield covers his 80%, and in turn greenshield happily covered the remaining 20% of my prescriptions after my other insurance covered 80%. I recently started a new job and have benefits through greenshield. They told me to do they will not cover the remaining 20%, only 80% of the 20%. Same goes for dental etc. This only works this way because we are both with greenshield, if my insurance was a different company they would cover the remaining 20% after my insurance. They are charging us both full premiums but punishing us for both being with them.Green Shield Canada Response

Terrible service, the app is awful, the customer support is abysmal and they can't even give me my newest contract benefit package that included a number ofup updates to my package. They only one I could find was from 2018. 6 years ago is ridiculous. So I contacted customer support and voiced my concern and once again asked for an update version of my benefits package. She said no problem, then goes on to send me her most recent version of what they had and it was from 2018! This is one of the MANY problems I've wncountered. I'm not even sure if this is a real company or a front for soemthing else. F- for my score.Green Shield Canada Response

With respect to your benefit booklet, I suggest reaching out to your HR department as we aren't responsible for creating your booklets and the most current booklet we have on file is 2018.Review from Dana S

**** ******* ** * ******** ** *** ********* ********. My 79 year old widowed mother in-law who needs physiotherapy to allow her to walk better enquired about a specific clinic and she was advised by a Green Shield adjuster she could go to that clinic for physio and it was covered. Then when the claim was submitted (total of $260 over 3 visits) she was told it was not covered. She was blatantly lied to and when my husband tried telling them about the lie they simply kept repeating “it’s not covered” WITHOUT GIVING ANY EXPLANATION. She can’t afford to pay out of pocket for physio and relied on GS for coverage she was told she had. GS should be ashamed of this misrepresentation and how badly they treat their own insureds.Green Shield Canada Response

I lost a filling while on holidays in March. My dentist submitted a request for a crown along with pictures which seemed to have gotten lost during the strike. Pictures were resubmitted after the strike but nothing happened. The dentist was directed to submit again by mail. Those seem to have been lost as well. Then I was directed to have the dentist send everything to a special email address to ensure more prompt response. Still nothing. I told them I am having major surgery in June and the dental work needs to be done ASAP. That and the fact I have been 3 months with no filling. Really poor service and no apparent ability to deal with more emergent situations first.Review from Samantha S

Unfortunately I am forced to use this company through my employer. 1. The app is atrocious, the start screen just has a spot that says "a button" it always requires MFA doesn't matter if you logged in 3 mins before. 2. Not being able to upload invoices and other documentation at time of initial submit only for it to be declined for not enough info is a waste of everyone's time 3. Basically having to do your own billing and know all the codes etc. for dental billings because again they won't just process the invoice from the dental office is bad practice. Myself and my employer pay GSC for these services, it shouldn't be a job put on the client 4. Nurses mental health is soo important we recently fought for "unlimited mental health coverage" but don't see a Registered Social Worker as GSC has deemed this is not acceptable provider , for what reason? Let's bog down the professions that are covered , RSW is properly trained, they should be included. 5. Needing a family doctors referral for services that DO NOT REQUIRE referrals is asinine, not only does it bottleneck care provided by family doctors, it also costs the client out of pocket $ to ask their MDs for these notes (if we can even get in to see our doctors in a reasonable time frame since this is a non-urgent need). Massage, Physio, orthotics etc. are all services that can be accessed by clients without doctors notes. This is bad practice . 6. Where on the website can we see what accounts are returns are being paid into and can we adjust these accounts as needed? IF we can do this on the CRA website surely GSC can allow us access to this. 7. My kids are under my husbands benefits first, and everything is declined , if I've proven once that my husbands benefits don't cover this service, why do i need to prove this everytime even if it was only days apart. Also having to wait to be declined so then i can add the additional information is again bad practice.Review from Dan S

I am very unhappy with green Sheild for many factors. They will not allow my pharmacist refill my cancer and heart pills till I have a couple pills left. Okay what if something happened and I’m unable in this short period to try and refill my meds.? Not home, in the city getting more testing done or even a natural disaster could happen, this company doesn’t consider any of this, we all don’t live in downtown Toronto! I put in official pharmacist receipts and this cheap company will not even accept them. I would recommend everyone to avoid this company at all costs! Also if you try contacting them by phone, good luck. All you will hear is the same music over and over for hours. They don’t like any phone correspondence!Review from Gregory S

Their wait time to get an agent to speak with is horrible! There are certain things that can't be done on their website which they should know and yet they tell people to go to their website for more information. I have tried to call them about 8 times in the last 2 months but every time I gave up after almost an hour. Currently I am on the line still waiting for the last 38 minutes and can only hear the annoying music. The worst service ever! I have wasted so many of my lunch breaks trying to call them with no success. Most annoying. They only manage to make clients more frustrated. Even though they can see such bad reviews, they dont seem to have made any improvements on this front. If it was not for my employers having them as my Insurer, I would have cancelled them right away. Not worth the wait. They say they know our time is important to us,,,baloney! This is really the worst wait time ever. Its even easier to get through to govt agencies but not Greenshield. I will definitely give them credit for one thing that when you finally do get to speak to an agent, they are usually always very polite and helpful and explain things very well. But that being said, my peeve is just that the wait time to actually get someone to speak with is an eternity and thats really not good at all specially for a health Insurance company. Even car Insurance and home Insurance companies are better in that respect. I just wish they make big changes to improve this situation, because thats whats really required from Greenshield.Green Shield Canada Response

I saw that GS has a land line instead of a cell phone number of mine. Tried to call the number they gave as it asked me to if I needed to change the number online. I waited until my phone battery gave out - two hours - tried to access using the website which is ridiculously stupid because every route you take leads either to a merry go round or else the idiotic phone number again which you can't get. It made me feel that they have two people on to answer the phone only. The website when I got luckily close to getting into my account then told me it was someone else's account number. What? All the infor led me to this place and now they say it is not my account. **** **** ** ***** ******** **** ***** ** ** ******** *** **********. The old one got there immediately so that in seconds I had my account laid out with what was paid etc for my dental and health plan. What on earth happened? It is the absolute worst mess of a website for it's impossible and erronious directions that lead you to one brick wall after another *** *** ***** ****** ** * ****. You cannot get on. Ever. Not impressed AT ALL! One hour holds every time you call. Been trying to get paid for my claim for a month. It disappeared from my claims history as if I didn't submit at all. I call and they say they see it on the back end and I'll get paid soon. A week later and still waiting. No reply to email sent over a week ago. Yet I get a massage and my service provider gets paid less then a week later. here it is January 29th and I'm still waiting to get paid for a December 30th claim.
