      My mother purchased what she believed to be a $25,000 life insurance policy on August 11, 2017 in case of her demise. Her end of life policies were put in a safe space to be used upon her death. Unfortunately, my mother passed away on August 29th, 2024. As we, her children, proceeded to process our grief and make arrangements for my mother's burial we were faced with a disgraceful reality that our mother had been taken advantage of in her later/most vulnerable years of life. Upon, calling Gerber Life Insurance the representative looked into her file and told us, her children, that my mother purchased a $25,000 accidental insurance policy and not life insurance like my mother believed she purchased. My mother was elder and began to show signs of dementia a little before 2017 and from an early age was diagnosed as being partially blind. She could not drive ever in her life and wouldn't have ever purchased an accidental insurance plan which served her absolutely no purpose. The only place she went to three times a week consistently was dialysis after a successful ten year kidney transplant started to fail again. The only thing that was dangerous in her life was missing dialysis. She was an elderly lady and was deceived into purchasing a plan/policy that served her absolutely no purpose at all. IF it was explained to my mother exactly what this policy was for( and it was the biggest policy out of three that she wanted us to use instead of being in debt) she would have absolutely never purchased this policy. She knew her time was limited because of multiple illnesses she faced~two times on dialysis and one major kidney transplant that eventually failed her. I place this complaint in your hands so that NO OTHER family have to endure this suffering, disappointment and pain on top of the reality of grieving a loved one. I pray this deceiving transactions is not what Gerber represents. Johnnie Rainey, Jr

      We are sorry to hear of the loss of your mother and send our deepest condolences to you and the family. Your mother applied for an Accident policy in June 2008. Based upon her application a policy was issued and mailed to her for review to determine if the coverage met her insurance needs. This policy contained a 30-day right to examine provision which would have allowed your mother to cancel the policy in the first 30 days for a full refund of premiums if she was not satisfied with the coverage provided. She did not elect to cancel the coverage and continued making payments. The policy provided coverage until we received notification of the claim being filed.
