Government Action: BBB reports on known government actions involving business’ marketplace conduct::
    USA v. Liang, et al
The following describes a pending government action that has been formally brought by a government agency but has not yet been resolved. We are providing a summary of the government’s allegations, which have not yet been proven.

On March 14, 2018, the United States Attorney General filed an Indictment in U.S. District Court for Eastern District of Michigan as to James Robert Liang, Richard Dorenkamp, Heinz-Jakob Neusser, Jens Hadler, Bernd Gottweis, Oliver Schmidt, Jrgen Peter, Voklswgen AG, and Martin Winterkorn. Superseding indictments filed allege the business, its management board, and various executives are in violation of the federal Clean Air Act. Specifically, it is alleged they conspired to defraud the United States and their U.S. consumers by installing "defeat devices" in their diesel vehicles.  Emissions control systems in these vehicles were designed to distinguish whether the vehicle was engaged in real road driving conditions or a U.S. emissions test; in which, the emissions increased during the real road conditions.  The indictment for Winterkorn, the former CEO and chairman of the management board of VW, claims he made false representations regarding the ability of VW's supposed "clean diesel" vehicles to comply with U.S. emissions requirements and further committed wire fraud in connection with the scheme. Schmidt and Liang, former VW engineers pleaded guilty to participating in the alleged conspiracy in the indictment and are currently serving sentences of 84 months and 40 months in prison, respectively.

Hi. I had 2022 Volkswagen Taos new. My 3rd Volkswagen. I decided to lease even though I was going to buy it. First the dealer screwed me even in a lease for a 25,000$ car in a lease all base model. I would have paid 28,000$ in payments plus a down making it 596 a month. Almost 600$ a month for a lease. Now my car was involved in an accident because an 82 year old was ******* for Mexican food. The insurance is paying $20k plus and I only owed ****** in lease payments. They want to tell me that they arent going to send me the difference or anything because a ***** Blue Book Value. If Im not mistaken ************* which is not going to be used only covers the remaining lease payments not KBB value. How does this make any sense. They have the nerve to say they didnt make any money. Well someone made 32,000$ on a 25,000$ car. When I first got the car it had problems braking. I took it to the dealer they adjusted something. Then a recall happened on the brakes. After a year a liquid was dripping. They kept claiming it was condensation from the ac. Which it was not. They were finally going to check it out right before this happened. A year later. If you think about it. In 2 years, my car wouldnt be worth as much kbb value as it is 2 years old. They got the full payments on an over priced lease, why cant I get the difference. I would love for someone to from Volkswagen to respond on here the same they responded to me on the phone. Never buying a Volkswagen again. Ps if your going to claim I dont own the car then just like enterprise you pay the insurance. Its my insurance policy not yours. If your only argument is ownership then pay me back 2 years of payments of insurance!
