My child had to change his orthodontist. Smith wanted to see him but there has been nothing but delays throughout the process. Now at the end of the process they schedule him for removal with a stress of them needing to come off because of how long he has had them. A couple days before his appointment to remove them they call and tell us we have to pay $600 to have them removed. This has never been mentioned in the two years they have had him as a patient. Because I didn’t have the $600 to pay that day they canceled his appointment that had been previously deemed so medically necessary. We gave them our new insurance information and a couple weeks later through phone calls of our own we find out that it has been approved for part of the amount and we will pay the difference. Now they want to schedule him for the middle of august which is 5 months past the time that it was so critical that they be removed. They have put the health of his teeth as a secondary concern for their practice. After pleading with them on his behalf I got an appointment in July which was 4 months past the original appointment. They said they didn’t have any control over their schedule, not sure who does if they don’t, and said they weren’t willing to discuss this any further. Had this business operated in a professional and morally responsible manner, we would have known there would be a surprise charge at the end even though we were told that insurance had paid them in full. Had we known we could have arranged with our insurance prior to the appointment. That takes more than a couple days notice. They explained that they don’t even inform people and they just bill insurances extra money and that it isn’t their fault he changed insurance so they couldn’t sneak it through without our knowledge. A child’s teeth are at stake and at risk. This business needs to get him an appointment before the end of June. Then we can both move on and a child’s teeth may not be damaged.
