DJK Environmental ReviewMay 2021*** performed a vermiculite remediation project on our home in central ********* and did a great job. I am no expert in this area, but while they did a great job, it was not perfect. I attribute this not to the workers that did the job but the difficulty safely estimating work like this. The estimator took a look in our attic, but due to the presence of the vermiculite and more than 12 inches of fiberglass and blown in cellulose on top of the vermiculite, he was not able to view all parts of the attic, which has four dormers that are not all visible from the access hatch. As a consequence, the size of the project was significantly larger than he estimated. Based only on the estimate the workers arrived with, they thought the job would be completed in one day. At the end of the first day they realized the scope was much greater, and without complaining, they indicated they would have to come back a second day. At the end of the second day they said that they would be back the next day (Saturday) to finish, again, without any complaint. It took them the entire third day to finish the job. Because of the vermiculite hazard (contains asbestos) they conducted a final air test to confirm no presence of particulate in the attic air. Because the test was done on a Saturday, the lab that would analyze the results was not open. We were advised that we should stay out of the area (second floor of the house and attic) until the lab test came back clear. We received that test late on Monday. I then had a chance to inspect the work they had done. While I found the attic very clean, it was not to the standard that I was afraid the company we had contracted with to re-insulate the attic would require. As a result, I went into the attic with a **** vacuum and completed the job to an even higher degree of clean. That took me three hours to complete and resulted in approximately one more gallon of vermiculite (out of an approximate 850 sq ft attic).After completing this I spoke with *** personnel in their ********* office and they admitted the job was much larger than estimated and that they took a loss on the job as a result. They said I should have called them back to finish the job better, but their travel time alone would have required five hours on the road in addition to the time to complete another vacuuming. I knew that they had probably lost on the job and not knowing whether the project as they completed it would have failed the approval of the re-insulating company that we had contracted with, I felt that it was not appropriate for me to ask them to do even more.The bottom line is that I give *** a rating of 9 on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being perfect.***** *. **********, **
