*******************, contractor. We paid $30k up front to get our home manufactured and placed in 2021. He kept missing deadlines while we had to keep paying on the construction loan. He dug the basement/place the house in 2022, a full year late. Always wanting more money but missing deadlines for project step completions. His finishing crew did not assemble the house correctly, he did not put in the garage the way we wanted (zero entry), padded charges throughout the project going into a $25000 over run. We refused payment until he fixed the siding issues, the poor work that will directly severely impact the value of the house, proper insultation, siding, etc. He was notified in writing, with pictures, in August of 2023. His response was he will finish everything only after we pay him in full. Now ****************** has called in the loan for $390000, which we cannot pay. We have been trying to get a lawyer but they don't seem interested in helping. We really need help: we are being heavily pressured from all sides, our credit rating is being threatened, all because of the deceitful actions of *******************. We are NOT deadbeats! We have the paper trail and supporting documents.

This complaint is not accurate. Centerville Homes was delayed in digging basement, however per ***** they did not want to proceed with the basement in November of 2021 and wanted to hold off until spring of 2022. Customer demanded large discount or deposit returned (after home was already built). We told him that we would not be able to refund deposit as the house was already built, **** gave Homeowner a very generous discount on their solid surface countertop due to delay. Money was only requested per the purchase agreement terms, not "always wanting more money" as complainant claims. House was assembled properly, there were some items that needed to be addressed. There were no "padded charges" as complainant claims, all charges above and beyond the original purchase agreement were shown via invoices. To say that there were $25,000.00 in overruns is not accurate as Homeowner added $7,000.00 in upgrades after purchase agreement was signed via change order, the flooring that was selected went above allowance, excavation went over allowance due to high water table (this was brought to Homeowner's attention when it was discovered while digging basement). Homeowner refused payment for the garage draw when it was due. We finished the home as we did not want that to delay completion. Upon completion of home final payment request was sent out. We had discussion with Homeowner that we will address concerns he had once we receive payment that was due for garage and we would settle up with final payment after addressing concerns. It was never stated that we will not address concerns until final payment was received it was stated that we need the garage draw as per the contract (which was already breached with non- payment as per contract). Centerville Homes has had to pay for material, labor, sub- contractors and interest fees for work done at ******* home. Centerville Homes has had to accrue legal fees just to try to get a response from *****. To call actions of ******************* "deceitful" is malicious. We have tried numerous attempts to get things rectified with no response. As with most Contractors we try our best to please our customers.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Centerville Homes is being inaccurate.  They failed on each and every deadline.  We have the email written proof that his response to our written complaint last fall was to demand payment THEN he would look at the issues.  Also, he did not provide the reasoning for the over runs.  We were not given any discount that they referenced in their response.  We can prove that they did not give credit of standard equipment for upgrades.  They did not give us the garage they promised, they decided without contacting us.  When we questioned the garage flooring several times, we were ignored.  The attached document is part of the written documentation, with images, that were provided to Centerville Homes last fall, but the only response was "give me my money".

We can put together the whole email string, if it comes to that.  The invoices do not show what the over runs were spent on, other than inflated prices.

The invoices have been provided to ***** on several occasions showing the costs they are being charged for. ******* numbers do not coincide with the real numbers and we require payment. If ***** wanted materials from Menards then they should have purchased said materials, then labor and install would have been added to install materials and more than likely be the very same cost they have been charged. We refuse to continue going back and forth on this and would really appreciate a response to the many inquiries that we have made. We would love to get this matter cleared up and move forward to a resolution.

Please contact us here at Centerville Homes and we can discuss getting this closed out.

    Thank you.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

We don't know what ******************* is talking about.  We submitted to him, in writing, back in August of 2023, all the issues to date, to which he only responded that he wanted money before he would consider these issues.  Since then, more issues have cropped up.  Also, we asked for itemization of his costs, especially the $23000+ over run, but all he came back with is a final amount (not itemized), did not address our direct questions, and demanded money.  The money left on the contract is for the garage, which was NOT done correctly and as we discussed (another issue he has ignored).  We paid in full for the basement and house, yet that is where most of the issues are that he continues to deny, aside from the wrong garage.  He could have avoided all this if he would have had any communication with us and addressed the issues we raised as the project progressed.  He simply chose to ignore us completely for many months, sending us a bill every once in a while, while ignoring our complaints and requests.  He is unreliable, he is deceitful, he does not communicate, and is hostile toward us.  We do not want to escalate this but we did find out that this isn't the first time he has caused difficulty for his clients.  We have a banker from ****** that seems familiar with his methods.

I propose we close the book on this.  He gets no more money, and we will foot the bill for repairs from this point on, which is in excess of $80,000 at this point.  He will not make it right, and we do not trust him as his past work record speaks for itself.  He does not deserve the pay he is demanding because the work is faulty and woefully incomplete, exaggerated, and is many months beyond deadline, causing us great hardship and affecting final worth of our home.

We have filed a complaint with the ***************************** to look into this as well.  We will see what that office has to say after reviewing the case.

    Regards,
