Delta dental promised to cover caps on teeth at 50%. The treatment was previously approved but now has been withdrawn. There are no exceptions listed in their terms. The decision is capricious and specific so they can avoid fulfilling their obligations.Business Response

We had dental cleanings on Aug 6 and claims were filed with Delta Dental of MO. The claim was denied due to family plans being transferred to Delta of Wisconsin. So the claims were refiled with WI, and I contacted DDWI costumer services and was told they had not any claim which might be due to postal delivery. I contacted them again on Oct 6 and was told the claim had errors which could not be corrected. I had customer services call the ********************** office and was told the errors were resolved. I called customer services on Nov 13, and they could not find a claim(s) and I was told to stop calling them. I called the dental office and they said the claims were refiled Nov 13 electronically after which I called customer services and was told no claims were filed and the dental office was using the wrong address and the representative would not track down the claims. **** says claims are backed up and delayed months. Even if there is a backlog they should be able to verify receipt of the claim. This is very poor business...and the dentist is not being paid! I want the dental claim(s) paid per the contract. Because of their dysfunction I will be held liable for a 100% covered service.Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is confusing to me. The replay from Delta Dental of WI stated that Delta Dental of MO underwrites the policy but Delta Dental of MO claims Delta Dental of WI underwrites the policy. It seems to be a very dysfunctional business.

I signed up for a Delta Dental of WI plan last year and have paid a full 12 months on it. The *** who sold me the plan told me I could cancel and ensure it does not auto-renew if I gave notice of cancellation within 30 days of the anniversary date (which is Jan. 1, 2024) which would be by the end of this month, Dec. 2024. They do not allow you to cancel by phone and instruct you to cancel via the portal, Contact Us page, or mailing a letter. I submitted two requests to cancel via the online portal on Nov. 30th and Dec. 2. I submitted 3 more requests via the Contact Us page on Dec. 2, 3, and 6. I get nothing but an automated response upon submission. I have yet to receive an actual response with any confirmation of cancellation. I have sent a certified letter which will be delivered today (I will upload documentation once it is delivered, but this shouldn't be needed given my 5 other requests) but seeing as Delta Dental of WI has other complaints and reviews indicating they make it impossible to cancel, I am submitting this complaint to ensure my policy is canceled before my renewal and that I receive confirmation of cancellation immediately.Customer Answer

I am a previously insured member until the end of my employment *******. Since then, I have been charged for my premiums directly from my checking account and my member ID number was not active. I confirmed the lack of coverage at my dentist. I contacted Delta Dental ******** without resolution in July 2024 and Delta Dental Wisconsin as of 11/25/24 in order to: Please examine attached records of my unnecessary payments from January 2023 until the current day (payments of ***** as well as a resulting overdraft of $30 totaling $363.50) and complaints regarding, cancel these charges and issue me restitution. I see charges during which I was not insured. At no point did I volunteer a continuation of coverage under COBRA or otherwise. This business was allowing one of their customers to use my account for paying their monthly Delta Dental bill. They had no policies in place to assure that their customers account information was accurate. They are refusing to return my money that has been stolen from my account and do not believe it is their responsibility. I was able to retrieve $60 using my bank to claw back the money. They are refusing to return the $140 even though they know who was using my account information. They should go to their customer and retrieve that money to refund me since they know who it is along with their account information.

Delta Dental will not terminate my insurance coverage and continue in efforts to take money from my bank account for service I have requested they cancel. I want Delta Dental to terminate my coverage, and not contact me any further. I think it is a shame that a consumer has to go to this length to stop doing business with Delta Dental.Business Response

I have not been able to get on the portal for 1 1/2 years. The system can not find me only on the portal. I have waited for callbacks and done very archaic troubleshooting back and forth with someone NOT in IT or skilled to fix the issue and have been told I need to wait ***** hours for a supervisor to call back and potentially hit my voicemail while I work. I am in pain and have had bone graft, implant and other surgeries that require me to see someone right away to address continuing issues. I will no longer spend wasted time havin someone read me off information that I can't see verify or take notes on during business hours. This is the worst customer service I've ever had from any provider and I've been with Delta Dental in my home state. I'm contacting the corporate executives and sales teams on social media at this point for help.Business Response

So I took out the dental insurance through delta dental. I was given services & was assured by the agent while set me up w insurance I would be fine. I also was told that my services will be covered as I had had a previous dental insurance in which was covered. They denied aALL of my charges to Ruvertown Dental in ******* **. When I contacted the State of ** ( I have state insurance) they said they should take your state & your reg dental insurance. I SHOULD NOT have a bill!! When I went back & forth w my dental provider I said I was contacting Delta Dental if WI & disputing. Shortly after, I was sent a letter of delinquency by my dental provider. I pay my premiums every month EFT & timely! This is is not fair & I believe my dental bill should be paid in full by the Delta Dental. This is why people pay their premiums & have insurance. People are getting ripped off from both ends. This is an unfair practice by both parties & should be addressed. I now owe $1572.00 with no answers from **************** @ *********************************************. I should have been covered for all services & was NEVER told about a 12 month waiting period; especially having dental insurance prior. Please address this issue as I have received great care from Rivertoen but have been tossed & turned because I am recipient of BadgerCare/Medicaid. I truly think they discriminate in some ways against people who do have this. Not only that, but I have 2 ********************* have a bill at all thank you ?? ?? The complaint was filed by a subscriber to a DDWI dental benefits plan.While we understand the consumers frustration, without a signed release from the consumer, DDWI is not able to release any information because of confidentiality requirements of the **************** Portability and Accountability Act of ****, 42 U.S.C. 1320d-9 (2010). DDWI has responded to the original complaint directly to the consumer by letter. The consumer will need to allow several days for receipt of mailed letter.
