Worst purchase ever. Purchased a brand new Hyper Tough 20in push lawn mower. Opened box & everything looked ok, however it took forever to start. Primed it and gas started leaking from the filter which was really odd. After priming, it took about 10-15 pulls of the cord just for the lower to start. After finally starting, I maybe did 1-2 strips in my yard before it started smoking & the belt possibly came loose because it didn’t start up again after. BRAND NEW, OUT THE BOX and not working already is a big red flag. After calling the manufacturer for a CS resolution, I was given the run around basically as Briggs & Stratton was not going to replace or fix the problem. They gave me a number to the closest mechanic that could operate on the mower which was 2.5hrs away. Not to include it was a 90$ diagnostic fee as well as maintenance charge. I definitely wasn’t going to pay that for something brand new & wasn’t my fault. So I was basically was going to be out of 260$ for a product B&S knew was refurbished and faulty. As a resolution I took it back to where I purchased the item originally & got a refund. Thank goodness. I tell everyone beware of this company and their products as they’re using it as a way to make more money off their faulty products.

I bought a Brigs and Stratton 2 stage 208 cc gas snow blower in the winter of 2021. We were looking for something reasonably priced, decent reviews, and that was 2-stages so it could handle a gravel driveway. It has been a nightmare since day one. First year, it kept on stalling or would not start at all. We thought it might have gotten water in the tank one stormy day when we were filling up the gas. We tried fresh new gas and carburetor cleaner. But still never ran right. Alway had the throttle open. Second year we didn’t use it much. Worked okay, stalled sometimes or took forever to start. The linch pin on the left wheel broke, which we replaced. Third year, before the winter season, we cleaned out the carburetor - it was so rusted and gunked up! Shocking for only two years. We got it working, appeared to have no trouble starting. Not stalling anymore. We were excited. But then the pin on left wheel breaks. We replace it. It’s breaks 5 more times in less than three uses. That’s right, a fresh new pin broke in under 10 mins of use. The power steering is also failing, staying in a locked position so the wheels won’t turn. Finally we go and use it today, the pull start cord snaps in half. We start it electrically and 30 min later. The left wheel pin breaks yet again. Absolute nightmare! The manual, and when I call to inquire, tells me to bring it to a Briggs and Stratton certified mechanic/dealer to get it looked at. But I do not have a way to transport it unless I rent a trailer and car to pull it. And if I had to do that every-time something was wrong. I’d pay more than what it is worth. DO NOT BUY! We are never buying this brand again.

Let me just say, Briggs & Stratton have horrific engines. I purchased my Craftsman M110 mower 2 yrs ago from Lowe's. This past weekend, my mower just stopped. I had a repair person look at it. He said the engine was shot. Craftsman told me I had to speak with someone at Briggs & Stratton bc it was an engine fail. You cannot speak to anyone. They are corrupt just like other companies. They don't want to help you. All I wanted to know was, would they honor my warranty even though it was a few months past it and the fact that this mower is essentially new, you would think they would but good luck trying to speak to somoene and thers is no # on their website either. Don't purchase any mowers with their engine. They are purposefully making them shoddy so that you have no choice but to buy a new one in a couple of years. Corruption at its finest. They should have customer support available like any other company.

My 500cc Intek started burning oil. I had a new head gasket installed. Known defect of gasket between cylinder and push rods. Now will not turn over. A very frequent fail the pressure release on the cam shift breaks. The pressure release must have happened then with more pressure knocks out the head gasket. They just kept making them knowing about the defects.

2018 ****-bolt Pony riding mower with a Briggs **** Powerbilt engine failed after 3 years.Compression release broke. The dealer installed Briggs and Stratton **** Intek replacement failed after 15 months service. The log splitter 6.5 ohv B&S also failed.I was a fan of Briggs and Stratton engines many years ago as they were great engines. Also had good service from Tecumseh vertical and horizontal engines.Junked out the Pony rider and purchased a Husqvarna twin cylinder 46 inch rider with a different brand engine.I always maintained my Briggs and Stratton engines with fresh spark plugs and seasonal oil and air filter replacements. The correct synthetic oil went into the crankcase seasonally.Warranty coverage is subject to Briggs discretion purchaser pays for teardown according to serving dealer.

Yes, customers do pay tear down fees, however if the dealer finds the issue to be a manufactures defect the fee gets refunded back to the customer.

I ordered a part from Briggs & Stratton on July 24, 2023. I was updated on July 25, 2023 that the part as on back order. This is for order number *********. I contacted them online to cancel my order and they stated that they could not. I called them on July 27th and they told me that because the part has been shipped, they cannot cancel. They stated they can only cancel on orders that are on back order. I advised them that it is on back order, that their store does not have the part, and it has not been shipped to me, only the store. I tried to talk to a supervisor and when one was supposed to call me back, they did not. I contacted them again on July 28th and got the same response. The customer service rep told me to wait and receive the package, then ship it back for a refund. I asked him why they could not just keep the part that has not been shipped to me. He stated they can only follow their policies. Crazy how this is such a large business and there is no customer service. Also, if you do not have the part and it is on back order, don't advertise that the part is available and let me check out. After checking out, I was sent an email that said it would be shipping the next day to only get a notification the next day it was on back order.

Bought $350 lawnmower with ***** 160. Won't start. bought a $450 lawnmower with a Briggs 163 to replace it. Did all the prep work and pulled the starter 3 times and it started. Ran for 30 seconds, shut it down and now there is nothing with multiple pulls. Is there a small engine manufacturer out there that makes an engine that runs?

Ive been in business over 18 years and have only ran into a couple businesses that are this terrible. I ordered a crankshaft through their website with my engine serial number. They sent the wrong crankshaft. It was brand new I only opened the box to take a picture like they requested. They wont let me exchange it for the correct crankshaft and they wont refund me. Ive already spent thousands and thousands of dollars with them. My businesses will never exchange commerce with them again. And I will also warn others on several groups Im in pertaining to these engines. STAY AWAY!!!

Ordered a fuel tank replacement for a generator from Briggs Stratton Store. Used this site (Briggs and Stratton) to determine part number. It did not fit or have the same features. I was told Briggs Stratton Store is a distributor of Briggs and Stratton. (This is very confusing. I thought I was ordering direct from manufacturer so it would fit. Why would Briggs and Stratton allow a company to use their name.) Have been unable to get refund for the item. Takes 3-4 days to return emails. Was willing to pay return shipping and 20% restocking fee, but they say I damaged and will not accept it, and want me to pay return shipping.. I never even try to put it on. Returned exactly how it was received.)
