Scheduled appointment to have oil changed and rotate/balance tires (PURCHASE AT ******* MIDAS 3/23) as I was told rotation is complimentary. After visit, vehicle began to experience a shake and rattle in the front, driver side tire. Took the vehicle back to Midas - Grafton to check for balancing issue and was told the tires are fine and that it is something more like a drive train isssue or more serious- to take to dealership. Took to *************************** and was told there is nothing wrong with the vehicle and that the ***** WERE NOT BALANCED WHEN ROTATED. ********************* charged me another $115 to go with the $150 diagnostic charge + tax.

    Business Response

    Date: 09/18/2023

I have received an email from you regarding a complaint on my business. Complaint #********.  I don't recall getting any other email notifications from the BBB regarding any complaint, until now. (I even checked my spam folder) so this is the first time that I am hearing about this from the BBB. In your letter you stated that this complaint has been closed due to no response from my company. I am sorry, I would have responded to a complaint if I was made aware of one.

I also wanted to let you know that ******************* is no longer the contact person for this company as he has passed away last year in June. Please update your records to reflect that *************************** is now the contact person for Midas of Grafton.

Although you have closed this complaint already, I feel the need to explain. I have dealt with this customer already for other complaints he has made regarding this same issue. I told *** he needs to complain to the ******* Midas as they were the ones who originally put on their tires and did the mounting & balancing of their new tires.

***'s wife came to our shop after having the ******* Midas do the mounting/balancing service complaining of a shake/pulsation. We did do a FREE courtesy inspection to make sure the pulsation she was experiencing wasn't a safety concern. We could not find anything that was a safety concern nor was there anything visual that was seen. Since we did not do the mounting & balancing of her tires we suggested to his wife that she go back to whoever installed them. (the ******* Midas) His wife said there is no way it is the tires. How they were new tires and they just paid a lot of money for them. She also said driving back to the ******* Midas was to long of a drive & to inconvenient for her. We then suggested she go to a dealer as we couldn't find anything visually wrong or anything "unsafe" with their vehicle & if she was adamant about it NOT being the tires then a dealer would be where to start next (perhaps she had a drive train issue).  After they went to the dealer the dealer found out that the tires were balanced incorrectly, and *** wanted my company to foot his entire bill.

I explained that every Midas is independently owned & I am my own franchise with no affiliation with a different Midas.  Since I did not service their vehicle I suggested they go back to the Midas who did the service. I was told we are all a Midas and that we all have to cover everyone's services no matter which Midas they chose to go to and I told him politely that was incorrect. I can not take a loss on my business because another Midas franchise screwed up.

As far as I am concerned he is making a complaint against a company who never even serviced his vehicle but I am getting blamed for another Midas's mistake. A suggestion is a suggestion. If he chose to go to a dealer rather than going back to the ******* Midas who did the service then that is on him. I am not responsible for any of his dealer costs.

    Respectfully,

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response.  If you wish, you may update it before sending it.]

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find it is not worth pursuing further. Her explanation was incorrect. I originally brought the car in for an oil change and a tire rotation. Prior to my visit to the grafton Midas, my road smooth with no shake. After the oil change and rotation, the vibration appeared. As it turned out, Grafton did not balance the tires when they rotated them. I was never told that I had to go to ******* to get the free tire rotation/balance as I had purchased them there. Typically, franchises honor each others warranties and service agreements. Grafton is the ONLY Midas that does not do this. We were told we HAD to go to the dealership as this issue was related to the axel (Grafton Midas).

But, I'm closing this complaint because the owner of this Midas is anything but courteous and life is too short to fight people like her. I was a friend of the previous owner who treated everyone with kindness. I will NEVER go to this Midas again and will make sure to tell everyone I know in the area not to as well.

Complaint is closed - Complainer very UN-satisfied.

    Regards,
