I had a total of 4 gift cards with $50 on each for Azana that I intended to use at my appointment on 12/20/21. I went to pay for my services and was told that the gift cards were expired and had no value. Nowhere on the gift card or the receipt received when they were purchased did it mention an expiration date. When I booked the appointment, the salon required me to put a credit card on file. I did so, but asked if I could use my gift card for payment at my appointment. I intended to pay for the majority of my services with my gift cards. I was told Absolutely, you can use whatever payment you would like. At no time was it mentioned that there was an expiration to any gift cards or was I asked for my gift card information to check value. I was just told that I could use my gift cards for payment. It was a complete shock to get to the register, hand over my gift cards to pay for my services and be told that they are expired. I was then forced to pay the full amount for my appointment out of pocket totaling $277.24. I am asking for a $200 refund for the gift cards that I was not able to use. These gift cards should be honored as there was no mention of an expiration date any time until I tried to redeem them after my services. As a consumer, I am very diligent about making sure I use my gift cards or certificates within the guidelines or dates given. If any expiration information had been mentioned on the gift card or receipt given to me, I would have followed it. I did some research on gift card laws after this incident and found that according to Federal guidelines enacted to protect consumers, The expiration date must be clearly disclosed on the gift card. Azana did not follow this guideline when they sold me the gift card and therefore is in violation of the federal rules regarding gift card guidelines. In closing, I am requesting that I be allowed to redeem the $200 total value on the cards in the form of service or a refund towards my payment on 12/20/21.
