- Advertising Review:
On January 4, 2024, Better Business Bureau contacted Fast Roofing concerning advertising claims found on its website, https://www.fastroofingnw.com. Specifically, BBB asked Fast Roofing to substantiate the following claims:
- “LEADING CONTRACTOR IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST”
- “Fast Roofing is the preferred exterior residential contractor servicing the Pacific Northwest.”
- “Over 100+ 5 STAR Reviews”
- “You are supporting a family business that gives back to the local community.”
Fast Roofing is also advertising badges associating the company with Certainteed and Malarkey. BBB could not confirm the company is a member or associated with either of these companies.
BBB’s first Basic Principle of the Code of Advertising is that “the primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptive advertising rests with the advertiser. Advertisers should be prepared to substantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication or broadcast. Upon request, they should present such substantiation promptly to the advertising medium or BBB.”
According to BBB’s Code of Advertising section on Testimonials and Endorsements, “advertising which uses testimonials and endorsements is likely to mislead and confuse if it is not genuine and does not actually represent the current opinion of the endorser.”
BBB’s Code of Advertising on Objective Superlative states, “Superlative statements in advertisements about the tangible qualities and performance values of a product or service are objective claims for which the advertiser must possess substantiation as they can be based upon accepted standards or tests. As statements of fact, such claims, like “#1 in new car sales in the city,” can be proved or disproved.”
BBB asked Fast Roofing to provide information regarding their community support. Fast Roofing has not supplied this information. Despite written requests, as of January 31, 2024, Fast Roofing has failed to substantiate or modify its advertisement.
