Didnt have a great experience tonight. Ordered shoes for next day pick up. I got them and they had a stain on them. tried them on and walked from the front door and back. sat down and began to have an allergic reaction from the shoes. Difficulty breathing, hives and extreme itching. Called the store and they were more than happy to exchange, but they were way too far to drive back to.Called corporate and spoke to *****, who was passive and patronizing. I advised her that I felt she had an attitude and I wanted to speak with a manager, after she told me that they cant guarantee no one has worn the shoes and that displays are sold all the time without people knowing. she also said that they do what every other store does. She just seemed unhappy with her job. spoke with ******, who addressed the issue but by then the damage was done.She resolved the issue of the call by getting a new pair sent out to me, in exchange for the old ones by mail. She was decent to talk to.I did tell her that I work from home but explained that the way ***** addressed me which was assuming, and unprofessional really put a bad taste in my mouth. If it made sense to cancel the membership, I would have but it is not about the money.I think ****** assumed I worked in customer service, which I did when I was in college but I do not work in customer service now. however my job does involve having to speak with injured and traumatized individuals. The situation was handled incorrectly as it pertained to *****.I got the feeling that I annoyed ****** with my input, but I hope REI genuinely takes the time to select their first line employees with more discretion or at least invest in proper EQ training for everyone. we are all human, but kindness matters.Disappointed in this first bad customer experience.Review from Ivan J

When I went to one of the stores in ******************* 2 days ago. I found out I have label "FRAUD" on my membership account. I asked them what's that mean? That wasn't even a sentence, just the word FRAUD? That's weird! It was even a sentence or some kind of explanations. What a bogus claim that REI is doing? I don't even know if my account had compromise. No explanation from the store what so ever. I have reached out using the 800 number and they couldn't explain what's going on my account. Instead, I have to wait for 2 weeks supposedly I will receive an email then. Also, I noticed, all of my purchased item within 1 year, which most of item can be return now they had blocked and showing its ***************** timeframe?Review from Patrick N

Complete scam, they want to pretend they are a co-op, but this is a lie in principle.The *** received almost $4M dollars last year, during a year of record profits, and yet they cut employees, does not show a dedication to your employees. It shows that you are driven solely by greed, like every other mega corporation. So stop lying, and stop increasing your prices while saying it is to better the lives of the employees and the environment, its because your C-suite wants more money. Save your time and money and just shop online somewhere, or just go to the other mega sports stores, itll be cheaper and you wont get the feeling you are surrounded by filthy liars (plus youll probably have your returns honored and wont get scammed like REI seems to do every chance they get)Review from Erick B

I placed an REI order for 2 items - with both of them being received as the wrong item. I obtained a pre-paid shipping label from them - months have gone by with the package being delivered with an email confirmation from REI and still no refund. I have been going back and forth via email and phone - with no resolution. They have stolen $279.99 of my money and I have exhausted every avenue of trying to receive my refund.Recreational Equipment Inc. Response

As per our prior communications, these items have not yet been returned to us. Instead, we received envelopes with altered shipping labels which did not contain the goods shipped to you. We will be happy to offer a refund when the items are received, inspected, and found to be in new condition.

Fraudulent advertising and marketing tactics. Consistently advertised items at low prices online that do not exist. I even paid money and ordered items to have REI cancel the order due to them, allegedly, not tracking inventory accurately. When looking at sale items, once you go to checkout, they cancel the order many times.... They are advertising items that they do not plan to sell.Review from Sarah D

************************* need customer service training help on the billing department via phone. Essentially, REI stole money from ** for a rooftop cargo box (we have evidence on our bank statements) but will not show that we have paid for it on their end. This is obviously an REI issue but ******* was not willing to work with us to help resolve the issue.Review from Houman S

I have no respect for business who don't give you a certain amount of time to check out before selling the item to someone else. It's like getting to the check out line and noticing half of your stuff is missing form your shopping cart, because the store took it and sold it to someone else. Yet they have 56 pages for you to look at and shop from. Make it make sence! I've given them so many changes over the last decade but they specialize in disappointments. Ordered a tarp that was supposed to come with stakes and guylines. The tarp arrived but there were no stakes and missing two guylines. Contacted customer service and they offered a partial refund that wouldnt even cover the missing stakes.Review from Lindsay W

They were doing a sale on Hoka running shoes and hiking. I should have known that I'd never see the shoes, because of how fantastic of a deal it was. As ******************* always says, "if it seems too good to be true, It isnt true." The shoes quickly changed to that they were shipped with no tracking info, I also noticed that the address they were sending it to wasn't the one I gave them. I contacted them about 2 weeks after the shoes shipped stating that they had the wrong address and there's been no change to tracking. I then received an email shortly after stating that all 3 shoes I ordered that they claimed they already shipped were out of stock. I ignored the email waiting for my response from the original email, where they then sent me another email saying my order was canceled due to no inventory. They didn't offer me anything for the inconvenience and tried selling me different products at over 3x the price for me to purchase instead. I wish I looked at reviews beforehand, because I would have saw so many have the same experience from me. I wouldn't make another purchase from this company again.Review from Alan C

A terrible company with a fraudulent website. I made two separate orders for three different items recently. I never received any update after only the initial confirmation e-mail. After waited for five days, I contacted the help center, and was told that my orders were cancelled after they ran out of stocks. I am puzzled that how can all three different items from two separate orders were all out, and I was never updated about my purchases? I am only learning about this after I made the follow up call. I am very upset how a big company can be so arrogant and ignorant to their customer(s).
