    On 6/5/2024 at approximately 0900 hours A1 Tree Services was performing a ***** grind/removal in my backyard when a member of their team struck an underground gas line with their machine. The catastrophic damage required a call to AVISTA Utilities and the *********************** for a response. Once the scene was safe, workers completed their job and left. That same day, I placed a call to the owner of A1 Tree Services, ***************. I inquired as to if he had insurance to pay for the damages to my gas line, which leads out to my swimming pool. He immediately became defensive with me, stating he did not believe he should have to pay for the damages because he did not believe the gas line was buried deep enough in accordance with city code. I explained to him Washington State Law requires any party breaking ground to any depth must call before you dig. In addition, we have a gas meter attached to the house just a few feet from where they were performing their work. This gas line leads to our swimming pool, which is readily visible to him. Throughout the past week, I have patiently tried to settle this dispute with Mr. ***** He has increasingly become more rude and hostile with me, at one point calling me a liar on the phone. His atrocious customer ********************** has made it so I cannot have a reasoned conversation with him. Although he stated "You may win on a technicality" he never offered me any monetary compensation to address the damage his team has done. The initial estimate to repair the line is $2,452, which does not include the cost of digging the trench line to get to it underground. My desired resolution is to have him pay to make things the way they were before he came out to do the service and refund me the cost of the service for the pain, suffering, and loss he has invariably put me through, which comes to $3,358.06. As a token of good faith I will in turn cover the cost of digging the line.
