I have been a member of muv fitness since January 2022. I moved to ********* in November and have tried canceling my account via email and phone 4 times with no resolution. I cant get over to portland right now for family and financial reasons and they wont cancel my plan - this should be illegal.Business Response

This business is scamming people everyday. We were told that we could freeze or cancel our membership at anytime. When we tried to freeze our membership they told us it wasnt an option. They promised us in October that they gym was going to be open in January. We signed up under those conditions. We now have no idea when itll be open. They say whatever they can to get your money. I pray this gets shut down because its painfully obvious the issues they are having judging by the real reviews posted on ******* A LOT of customers are being scammed out of extra charges each month that we were never informed of. I pray we can cancel our family memberships at no cost. I plan on paying the cancellation charges so they no longer have access to our accounts.Business Response

I was a member of BOOM fitness years ago - shortly before it transitioned to MUV, I moved away. Admittedly in my busyness, I forgot about the membership and it's monthly charges continued to bill to my checking account. That is on me. This past year, I was auditing my checking account and saw these charges and realized I needed to cancel my membership immediately - I have spoken on the phone to multiple people, I have submitted written notice via email and even mailed a letter and they have continued to charge me. I spoke to someone about 4-6 weeks ago (timeline is admittedly a little fuzzy) and initially he said I needed to go into the branch and cancel, then when I expressed my frustration of getting the runaround from everyone about how to cancel my membership, he said he would do what was needed to take care of it and cancel my membership and the issue was resolved. Shocking... I was charged again this month for a membership fee! I refuted the charges with my bank and I have had several phone calls, text messages etc. from MUV saying I have an outstanding balance and need to pay up. They have purposely made the cancellation process confusing to try and get more money out of people.At this point, while I would like a refund for the literal YEARS they have charged me without using their facilities, at this point, I just want them to lose my information and leave me alone. They are preying on people and I am tired of dealing with this. In December 2021 of last year I attempted to cancel and they said I had to take extra steps to do so - I mailed a letter per the lady's instruction (no proof of letter as it was in the mail) and never heard back. You can see all of the charges for the last two years (there are more before that but I'd have to request a report from my bank) and the notice from 2018 when the transferred service to MUV - this is around when I stopped using their facilities.Business Response

In researching your membership, I do see that you communicated with one of our staff members and were given instructions on how to submit your required written cancellation notice. However, to this date we have not received a letter of cancellation and thus, have kept your membership active. We recognize that in your complaint to the Better Business Bureau, you stated that you called to cancel, but unfortunately, as stated in your agreement, we do not accept cancellations over the phone. With that said, in reviewing the notes pertaining to your account, we have closed out your account with your November payment being returned back to you. I canceled my membership at this gym. Understandably too late and was charged my monthly fee. That is acceptable. This terrible business then decides to charge me a yearly maintenance fee for the coming year. For a gym which I was there Im not a member of and would not be utilizing any equipment being that I AM NOT A MEMBER AND WAS CHARGED AFTER MY MEMBERSHIP WAS CANCELED. For the past month they have been denying me any communication and verbally confirming my right to a refund and have since been ignoring my polite phone calls and pleas for them to do proper business. I called this morning and they said their GM would not be taking my calls. They are stealing from me and many other people who may not be confident enough to fight for what is theirs.Business Response

In researching your membership, I found that you joined on April 23, 2020. Our cancellation policy on your agreement states that a 30 day written notice of cancellation is required. Anything within that 30 day window is due. As your cancellation request was made a day before the payment was due, that payment was included within your *********************************************************************************************************************************** regards to this situation, the account has been refunded for the $55 annual fee and the account has been cancelled with nothing further due. I canceled my membership in April 2022 and this business continues to charge my account each month. I have contacted the business every month and they tell me that they have fixed the problem. Then I get billed again.Business Response

My husband and I signed up for a membership at MUV Fitness in late August. We paid first and last months payment while we were there, and the employee told us to sign on the line. We did this and were never told that we were signing a 12-month contract. We would like to cancel now, since we found a more affordable gym, but were told that we have to pay $99/each to cancel. We were never told in the first place that this was the case. We went in to cancel our membership before our monthly payment was due, but they told us to not cancel until we hear from them and to bring our complaint to a team member who could help us better. They charged us for another month of the membership because they didn't get back to us quick enough. We have tried contacting multiple times and have not heard anything back on if we can cancel without the cancellation fee. We are frustrated that we are being penalized about $200 for something that was never brought to our attention. We are also frustrated because this is taking so long and we don't want to keep paying for months of a membership that we are no longer using.Business Response
