      When I was receiving care from this business several years ago, I paid for a night guard for my teeth. At the time I was given a verbal promise by the owner of the practice that I would be able to come in to have the night guard adjusted (quick procedure) whenever I needed it in the future for free. It had been almost 2 years since I had had it adjusted, so I returned to have my night guard adjusted after having some fillings at the dentist. When I arrived to have the adjustment done, I was ushered into the chair and spent approximately 4 minutes total waiting on the orthodontist and then spoke to her for 1 minute. She took a pair of pliers and bent the small wire 1 millimeter, then said I really didn't need an adjustment. I thought, "great the shape of my teeth did not change enough to affect the fit of my night guard, I'm ready to leave." When I went to check out of the office the receptionist informed me that there would be a $100 charge for the visit. I was not made aware of this charge ahead of time. When I tried to explain the agreement I had with the owner of the business, they informed me that he had sold the practice (I have never received a notice of change of practice) so they would now be charging me. When I asked if I could have insurance cover this, they said no. This is a very shady way to scam money out of patients. Any one with common sense should know that 2 minutes with the orthodontist should not cost $100. I was expecting, at worst, a $30 copay. I had hoped that the employees of Champlain Orthodontics would have some basic human decency to inform their patients before they are forced to pay $100 for something that they don't need or is not worth it. My complaint is threefold; 1.) I did not receive a change of practice notice, 2.) I was not allowed to leave the premises without paying the $100, and 3.) I feel that I was scammed out of my $100 because I was not properly informed of the charge ahead of time.
